Is it possible to never commit Mortal sin?

I am asking whether or not it is possible to go out without ever committing mortal sin. I know that mortal sin takes three requirements, knowledge, intent, and free will. so technically it seems possible to never commit sin, yet I see people in their like 70’s at the confessional all the time. does God know we are going to stumble over and over, or does he expect us not to?
 
Possible?

Perhaps…but rather unlikely given our fallen nature.
 
I was under the impression that the severely mentally handicapped were unable to sin because they lacked the reason or faculties to be capable of a reasoned choice made in full understanding.
 
This question is pretty subjective in my opinion, because I think even Catholics have different views on what exactly is a mortal sin in all cases. Would the teenager who looks at every beautiful woman with lust in his heart be mortal or venial? What if it’s just for a quick glance? Would this be equal to one that physically commits adultery? Personally I think there is a BIG difference between thoughts and actions when it comes to sin.

Yeah, I’d think that’s possible. It’s more difficult today due to the rampantly hedonistic culture we live in, but still, it’s possible.

Any sin at all?

Nope, not possible, except through an extraordinary gift of Grace, as in Mary’s case.
 
I remember reading that St. Dominic Savio (one of St. John Bosco’s students) had resolved to never commit a mortal sin…Granted, he died at age 14…

I’m sure there must have been other saints that never committed a mortal sin.

i am just scared of dying while in a state of mortal sin, doesnt that invoke fear into you all?
 
Hey, I’m in my 70s. There seems to be an embedded assumption in your question. Namely, you only go to confession when you have a mortal sin. Not necessarily true. Confession provides graces, and allows you to be a bit more humble, so that perhaps you become a bit less inclined to sin.

Is it possible to get thru life without mortal sin? Sure. Is it likely? Probably not, particularly in this age.

Think concupiscence. We tend to be inclined to sin. Are we tempted? Sure. Does God want us NOT to sin. Sure.

i ask these posts just because of two fold, one i am afraid of dying in a s tate of mortal sin, and b, i know its hard to never commit mortal sin, and i feel like sometimes im like a tense tight rubber band waiting to break afraidd of going to hell

Yup.

That’s why, when I commit a mortal sin, I go to confession. I love the Eucharist, but in my book Confession is God’s greatest gift to us.

The council of Trent, quoting Augustine, says For God does not command impossibilities, but by commanding admonishes thee to do what thou canst and to pray for what thou canst not, and aids thee that thou mayest be able.

Trent tells us in its canons that it is possible for a justified person to observe the commandments. By other things it says, it is clear that they mean in the serious things, they do not mean that venial sins are going to be avoided, without extra special privilege or grace.

Lots of people go to confession regularly, and do not have any mortal sins to confess.

Even when we’re not in mortal sin, the Church, in Her wisdom, wants us to go to confession at least once a year–and pours graces into going more frequently. Again, without mortal sin ever entering the picture. The beauty of confession is that it is simply available at nearly all times and with arrangement nearly any day.
 
what if we die before we go that once a year the church says?

The Church encourages even those who have not mortally sinned to go to confession one a year. For those who have, it’s an ASAP proposition.

Remember about perfect contrition? If you are on a desert island and can’t get to a confessional, pray and talk to God, ask for the grace to be fully contrite and to love him, be sorry and make an act of perfect contrition. Then go to confession when it becomes available. God won’t leave you without remedy. Work with the grace that he gives you in your situation. 🙂
