Actually, the city I live in (the capital city) is over 250,000 people. We have violence here. Sure. Everywhere does. And all that violence is done by many different people from all walks of life, color and gender.

Perhaps this example will help you. Perhaps not.

Point: Minor children are termed MINORS. New law flowed from fact that US govt agents incarcerated a 14 yr-old girl with adult criminal males in a Texas jail as she awaited INS action. (1980s)

Law states that now, unaccompanied, undocumented minor children are to be treated as CHILDREN (not as aliens). There are probably dozens of references to this landmark case and to the shelter-system that DOJ regulates for these children now. My time with the children was '97, '98, '99. The children in residence, 65 at any given time, were from all over the world.

As I suspected, it dealt with a special area and not with aliens in general (btw, your own citation describes laws that dealt with the charging of minors committing crimes as aliens (page 3)) All detainees, as far as I know, are to be treated as persons, because they are persons. The legal terminology should in no way take away from the right to be treated humanely.

From your initial postings it seemed to me that you were speaking of ALL illegal aliens. If you were talking to me then yes, I’d love to engage in a serious, not emotionally charged from either side, discussion.

Failing to address poverty and all its insidious arms, in the country of origin of illegal aliens, is, IMHO, folly. The platitudes of feeding the alien who comes to the door all make for a warm fuzzy feeling, but that’s about it, in the big picture.

Throwing the NT at folks about charity, then directing the needy to the government, is to me, hypocritical. Unless one is the guy who sold all he owned and gave it to the poor, then is one really living the gospel? If one is in tune with Christ, how come one has a computer, cell phone, car or IPOD? Christ found favor with the widow who gave from her need, not her excess. I’ve only known one person in my life, who actually lived up to that, BTW (and it ain’t me)

As I’ve stated before, we need to support, generously, the organizations that build infrastructure, provide opportunities for jobs and education, in the countries of origin. This isn’t brain surgery, but it is difficult, and it is dependent on we, as Christians to promote.
