Wasn’t talking about you maggiemay was talking about bullfighter 🙂

But yes, the rest was directed to you and the other civilised posters.

I wholeheartedly agree that we must support infrastructure in developing nations, but that must be in order to help the people of that country, the intention must not be to ‘‘give them no excuse to come here and cause trouble’’.

That said, infrastructure takes a long time to develop, should people come to the US or UK seeking aid it would be unchristian to point out that things in their home country will be much better in a few decades and they should just shuffle off back home and wait for better times.

I have seen the programs I support do wonders on a very tight budget. In Africa, there are schools being built and staffed for a few measly bucks, there are farms being stocked with goats, pigs, chickens, cows, and buildings for pennies (the school is agricultural, btw, created in the hopes of offering young folks an financially stable alternative to leaving the farms for the city)

A similar program on a small island in the Philippines, and in addition to the corporal needs, the spiritual are being tended. A new sanctuary was recently built after a storm destroyed the old one. The total cost-less tan 1200 dollars.

My sons volunteered in the building of homes and a repair of a school over their summer semester, in Mexico. This is done on a shoe-string budget, using Mexican produced materials. How fabulous it would be to have enough money to hire the Mexicans to do the labor, thereby beginning the cycle in a more profound way.

Start a thread, and I’ll be there. The emotional has co-opted both sides of the discussion here…

Thread created, I’m afraid I might be inactive for a while, it is 3.35 in the morning here and I have an early-ish start in the morning. So just in case I do not reply, goodnight and God bless.
