As you all can see --I am the number one fan of Pope Pius XII who did a marvelous job in his* Humani Generis w2.vatican.va/content/pius-xii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_12081950_humani-generis.html*

In paragraphs 11 & 12, there is this weird word “eirenism” which apparently was last seen in the middle of the last century. My thought is that while I am sitting on the sidelines of the new CAF, waiting to be rescued, I might as well keep my mind occupied.

Confusion loves company. Therefore, I decided to look for wolves and “eirenism”, hoping that someone will join me. I do not charge for the chair next to me.

Hi, Granny!

…yeah, I tried; the best I can find is eirenic or irenic – ‘tending to promote peace.’

…so if you could expand on this post, where are you heading towards?

Sometime back, I found “peace of mind” so we are both in the right ballpark when it comes to eirenism. I believe there is a Scripture verse which says – When two people agree, they are always right.

Seriously, this article is stuck between my ears.

When I read this article, my mind keeps jumping to some kind of wolf dressed in gracious words. I keep posting it, hoping that an assistant shepherd will find what I am seriously worried about. I need confirmation from others.

In other words, I need additional reviews, short comments, large questions, and especially curiosity as to what is really being promoted. Something is wrong in the article and I am guessing it is in the science comments.

Help!!!

Hi, Granny!

…there are several passages that come close to what you’ve expressed… Though not quite:

‘when two or three gather in my name, i’m there with you.’

‘if your brother sins against you, and he would not listen to your correction, call another brethren or two so that the witness of two…’

‘…the spirit and the water, and the blood; three witnesses…’
seriously, this article is stuck between my ears.

…yeah, I’m not the best of readers… but it seems that the thought is opened (Nature shows evidence of God’s Creation); it seems that that’s the argument and then the ending seems counter climatic as it seems to leave the thought up for grabs… the argument seems to intimate that Christians are wrong about evolution because there could have been order out of chaos and everything out of nothing without a Will or Purpose but simply chance.

Have you contacted the writer?

Sometimes when people proofread their own materials they do not see any flaws since the mind is placing things in the mind’s perspective and can ignore errors by filling in the correct info (this happens to me when writing here… just spotted a typo when I used the correct term in a subsequent posting).

Anyhow, the poster starts from an “awe” inspiring proof of God’s Creation unfolding in the chemistry field and ends up with the flop “universe came together by chance and freaky ‘just right’ conditions;” yet, it seems that she is intimating that it is God’s Creation not happenstance and nothingness.

Oh my goodness. Enough already with the evolution!
Hi!

…the word is out; it is not Faith vs. Science; we can have both!:
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse;

Granny, I tried looking that one up. I’m as befuddled as you. Can I sit next to you?

Unfortunately, many CAF participants do not understand what is right with evolution and what is wrong. :o

May I respectfully ask a question. If it is a personal issue, no need to answer. According to the Catholic Church, what is right with evolution? And what is wrong with evolution?

Note: Anyone can jump in with their own answers.

It is “Irenicism”. This is what it means in Italian:
irenismo
*
s.m.
RELIG Orientamento teologico che cerca di conciliare le differenti confessioni cristiane in un’unica visione d’insieme
‖ estens., non com. Atteggiamento di chi, per amor di pace, è disposto a rinunciare ai suoi princìpi.
eirenism is also a spelling used by the Catholic Church.

Thank you for the excellent link. I am part way through it. Because I took Latin in High School, I can guess at the Italian.

It is a very smart wolf who uses “Irenicism”. Fortunately, Pope Pius XII is smarter.

Yes, you can sit next to me. I will remove the raincoat, left over lunch, yesterday’s newspaper, a milk shake I did not finish, Christmas cards, and the puppy I am trying to train.

Education’s post on a former thread about this is worth re-reading:

…the Church has responded to specific statements made by scientists. She has not condemned a concept. If that were the case, neither Pope John Paul II nor Pope Benedict XVI would endorse the study of evolution and express an interest in its development.

To say that Pope Pius XII condemned it can be the flip side of a coin that says Pope Benedict is wrong for endorsing the study. That’s not the way this has develooped. Pope Pius expressed very specific concerns that Pope Benedict has never retracted. He has not repeated them either, because they have already been expressed. Popes don’t waste their time repeating what has been said. They have better things to do with their time than most of us do. Pope Benedict came at this from the other side and reminded the world that evolution and faith do not have to be in conflict. His statement is as authoritative as that of Pope Pius XII, because both have the authority to speak on the matter and Catholics are bound to assent to their authority.

Thank you for good points.

I have not contacted the author because I like to have all my ducks in a row. Therefore, I tried contacting some Catholic Answers Apologists; but, there was no acknowledgement.

On the other hand, a thread like this is an excellent way to test my insights by listening to the insights of others. As an old time journalist, without the benefit of Google, I learned how to do my own research. I loved that part of my job because I am driven by curiosity.

It is my current observation that very few people know the nitty-gritty of basic evolution theory. In addition, very few people know how the Catholic Church separates the material world from the spiritual world.

And Granny, can I just sit and listen???
That is the best place to be. 👍
Gather the facts.
Give your mind a rest.
And when it is proper
search for truth.

Have you considered that you might not understand what it is that the theory of evolution affirms and what it, when divorced from a materialist narrative, has no comment on? The science makes no comment on souls or original sin. It cannot deny them, but neither can it give any type of comment on them. The science is like a lampost in the dark, it can only shine light on what falls within its domain, but that doesn’t mean the area it shines light on is all that is.
May I respectfully ask a question. If it is a personal issue, no need to answer. According to the Catholic Church, what is right with evolution? And what is wrong with evolution?
It must be affirmed that there were two original humans who were endowed with a rational soul: one male and one female. The man sinned, forfeited the original holiness and justice given to man and woman, and this lack was transmitted to all their progeny, such that all true humans are born with original sin. Original Sin was not an act of multiple persons, nor are there humans alive today who do not have descent from the two original humans endowed with a God-given soul.

There at least ised to be a talk on the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation (iirc) that said Genesis wouldn’t work with Creation since death did not exist before Adam and Eve sinned.

I dunno… maybe animals died and people didn’t?

My personal theory:
We cannot know how the world was created: in 6 literal days? In 6 “days” that were actually ages (back in my day…). However, we can know that God created everything, because despite theorizing to the contrary, nothing *is *no thing, and so for something to exist now, Someone must have done something.

Whether God did this in 6 literal days, or whether He planted a seed which grew and grew, and widened amd developed, all according to His plan, we will not know in this life. I can see the universe as a beautiful flower opening ever wider, or the almost instantaneous appearance of everything, and either, or something else as yet unconceived of, would be awe-full-ly marvelous.

However, material, a-theistic evolution seems absurd to me, impossible to a negative degree. Those trying to prove it make up stories and say, since it could possibly have happened this way, it must be true. ??? crazy…
