I understand no need to apologize. Until recently I did not know there where many Eastern Catholic Churches in American at all. An I’m a old fuddy duddy 😃 42 so you see that how we learn i by talking with others.

holdencaulfield Just remember I looking for the parish the It does not matter if it is a Eastern or Western Church, It is the Holy Apostolic Catholic Church. I love going to The Divine Liturgy when I have the chance, But my culture is western and I do feel more at home in the Mass of the Latin Church.
No problem. Yes I agree.

@Volodymyr 988:

I know that in Brampton, Canada they have an amazing Ukrainian Catholic parish. St. Elias

Yeah, I wanna go sometime. I might not come back afterwards though!

I’m going to Chi-Town this weekend and can’t decide where to go to Church. Should I go Ukie or to Fr. Tom’s?

This kind of dilemma is one I should be having more often.

I was raised Southern Baptist, my husband was raised Polish Nathional Catholic and went to Roman Catholic schools. We were married in a Methodist church and really didn’t belong anywhere for ten years. Now when we started asking the Lord where to go, we went everywhere to see what they were like Presbyterian, Methodist, Church of Christ, non-denoms - just to visit.

My hubby wanted something like his grandma’s church. I asked him the first time I went to church with his family if they thought you didn’t get enough exercise on a daily basis. I had never stood up, kneeled, and everything else in such a shor time in all my life (well outside of basic training), anyway he loved the ‘t’ traditions of his grandmothers church. A friend who said she would find out for me about this church that didn’t use Latin or English in their Mass, didn’t think it was Polish either since that parish was downtown. She called the next day and said it was a Ruthenian Byzantine Church - they used Slavonic.

Oh my, now I had never heard a Polish name till I went in the Air Force (was raised in rural south) much less words like Ruthenian, Byazantine, or Slavonic. Funny, it was the last time Angie and I ever had time to talk - I guess God gave us the directions he wanted us to have.

So it only took going to St. Josephs Ruthenian Byzantine Church in Toronto Ohio one time and we knew we were home. 👍 Now 22 years later, my husband is a Ruthenian deacon serving in a Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Birmingham Alabama. Suprise! Didn’t know anything about Melkites, much less Arabic, and Middle Eastern. :rotfl:

We have been truly blessed by God to walk with him in ways that we could have never imagined. It just takes saying, “Jesus Jesus, I will go where you want me to go, do what you want me to do, when you want me to do - despite my hesitations.” He says back, “if you hear my voice today, harden not your heart.” (Hebrews 3:7) GOD IS FAITHFUL TO COMPLETE THE WORK HE HAS BEGUN.

Don’t be concerned whether you are or aren’t of a particular nationality, our God is more than able to teach you anything you need to know. God created us all, and loves us all, and his is a giganitc world to explore. Just say YES!

I heard that the Melkite Catholic Church was sadly the most “Latinized” Catholic church. Is that true.

It depends on which particular parish you’re talking about and to whom you’re talking.

I heard it was the Maronites. No offense to my Lebanese brethren.👍

Yes that is probably a good point. What type of Catholic are you. Sorry I forgot if I had already asked. 😊

Pani Rose, I am not sure what the contest was exactly, but you, dear lady win the prize! SBC, PNCC, UMC now a BC in the MGCC!
or
A southern gal with a Polish husband who is a deacon of a Rusyn Church serving the Melkites in the heart of Dixie!

If I tried to make a character like that up in a novel, no one would believe me! You really need to sit down and write about that sometime if you have not already. I can see you on The Journey Home already!

Oh my Simple Sinner, we never joined them, we just visited to see what they were like for a bit. You know, they were all quite boring and missing something.

Not to poke fun, but really, until we started studying with Archpriest Moran to enter the Ruthenian Church - well it was like the Scripture on the road to Emaus: Luke 24:
** 30 **** And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.**** 31 **** With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,** but he vanished from their sight. 32 ** Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning (within us) while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?”**

How could we ever leave, once we saw, even though not partaken in the presence of Jesus. Verse 32 is what happened, where else were we to go?

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the Light. All my growing up years in the Southern Baptist Church, only prepared me and gave me a hunger for more of Jesus. It is kind of like my daughter’s boyfriend said when he started going to church with us, he always knew there was more, but just didn’t know how go get there. If we are willing Jesus will get us there. Glory to God!

I am officially a Latin Catholic who has heavily dabbled in the Eastern Catholic Churches of the Byzantine Rite. Specifically I have attended the UGCC and Ruthenian Churches.
