Is it weird that I don't really watch or even desire to watch any current tv shows?

I don’t know your age, but I’ve seen statistics that show younger people are more and more only watching things online. They might still “watch TV”, but they have it hooked to the internet, so they can watch things on websites like YouTube. I am a young person that grew up with internet access, so watching things online is natural to me. My parents, on the other hand, grew up watching TV shows, so they continue to do so. Not all older people will be this way though. Some people are more interested in new technology while others keep doing what they’ve always done.

Well I don’t consider myself old but I’m not young either. I will be 40 this year so I’m not a millennial. I do have hobbies and tastes that skew younger though. Maybe because I’m not married or have kids. In my woman’s church group I am considered “the baby” even though there are younger gals there but they just appear older because they have 2 or 3 kids.

It’s nice that I’m not the only one that has no interest in tv shows though. I already consider myself fairly odd in a lot of areas but I guess this is not one )

I’d long ago come to the conclusion that I am not a part of the demographic that they’re interested in attracting … I can’t even think of the last show that I really cared about in the sense that I’d be unhappy if I missed an episode.

As a child and teen I used to devour tv shows. After my reversion to the church I stopped watching a lot of shows because they were too racy or immoral. As the years have passed, I find myself watching tv less and less. As I’ve mentioned before I do watch k-dramas although not as much as when I first discovered them. I just don’t have a lot of interest in watching shows anymore.

I do spend a lot of time online and watching silly YouTube videos. I think part of it is also my ADD since yt videos are short. Unless a drama or show captures me pretty quickly I lose interest. Well anyways I don’t know if I want advice or what because this doesn’t affect my life much. Just, sometimes I feel super left out of conversations since I have no idea what people are talking about

I know what you mean. Apart from cooking/craft shows and horse racing, I haven’t watched current TV in years.

It doesn’t bother me as much, though, when I have no idea what people are talking about.

A k-drama is a korean drama because as the name implies, it comes from Korea lol
A lot of people especially women (men too just that they won’t admit it) are k-drama addicts. They are very different from US tv shows because they only run from 12 to 24 episodes and those writers know how to make you feel things in a short span let me tell you.

Censorship laws in Korea are very strict so you won’t see nudity, too much violence or generally anything offensive.A couple in a kdrama is lucky to get their first kiss before the 6th or 7th episode so that will tell you a lot. A lot of kdramas are romantic comedies but you also have historical dramas which are in period costumes, action/adventure, etc

They are generally very safe to watch for all ages and some of the stories are brilliant. There’s literally hundreds of them since their run is short and once one ends another one comes on. You can watch them with subtitles in various languages on different sites.

They are very popular all around Asia and Latin America and have a cult following in other
countries. The hit drama that just finished airing this week had over 1 billion views in China so they are big!!

Yes Boys over Flowers is originally a Japanese anime ‘Hana Yori Dango’ it was then made into a live action japanese series and then the korean remake is Boys Over Flowers

Many people prefer the japanese version but the korean version was more famous outside of Japan, it was a complete phenomenon in all of Asia

You are not alone, I used to watch TV shows all the time. TV has got to immoral and a majority of the time it’s attacking God which really puts me off! I started watching a few seasons of American horror story a few years ago but I found it a total mockery of the Catholic Church in every way so I decided to do abit of digging about the show and found out the director was a lapsed Catholic that has beef with the church. Some offensive stuff though it should have been taken off air.

There are two extremes here that should be avoided.
I agree, most TV is immoral garbage.
On the other hand I get the idea groups like Million Moms would like nothing but endless “Little House on the Prairies” I don’t like modern TVs emphasis on the dysfunctional and depraved. But on the other hand, I would like to see (genuine) adult shows with intelligent dialogue and scripts.

None of which is present in anything I can discern on TV, so why do you feel the need to put down those who actually stand up and do something to stem the tide of depravity?

Not at all funny. Dubbing distracts me, it always has even when I was a child.

I do like TCM. I have the On Demand App. There is an interview with Sophia Loren that was on this week. I missed it, but I hopefully will be able to get a chance to see it on demand.

I watch Food Network a lot. I think TV land and Hallmark for old sitcoms.

And Netflix. Animaniacs is on now. My youngest likes it.

And, I started watching Mad Men recently on netflix.

I would not recommend it if one is sensitive. Most of the characters are flawed morally, but they aren’t portrayed positively. We aren’t supposed to think Don Draper is a positive roll model, or Betty Draper anything but a self absorbed narcissist. The story lines are very interesting. In an earlier season there was a priest who was sincerely trying to reach a lapsed Catholic, but she didn’t want to be reached. The portrayal of the priest was very good. Nothing objectionable at all.

I’m probably in the minority though on this site.

I’ve lived through the media adding a little more bad, almost every year, to its current ‘every year’ schedule since 1971. As a daily media analyst at my company, and as a personal interest, the current character template is the dysfunctional, depraved, and, in too many cases, sexually immoral. Lucifer on TV? If you would have told me our fun-loving being from Hell would appear on earth to get some thrills even a few years ago, my eyes would have popped out, figuratively speaking

Intelligent dialogue? “Good” scripts? So far, I don’t see things moving in that direction. Industry sources that provide snapshots of current trends for TV and movies up to three years out, give no sign of that becoming “mainstream.” A trickle of ‘good,’ from time to time, to be buried under highly celebrated rubbish.

When I was younger I neglected the old MTM dramas like Lou Grant, The White Shadow, St. Elsewhere, The Paper Chase, that had intelligent scripts and dialogue with real world situations. Some of these I am re-acquainting myself with on HULU. Even shows from the 1960s like Naked City and Route 66 were aimed at an audience that could think, and not just watch.
I like action shows too, but the level of modern dialogue seems to be at a Junior High level.
Today, ‘adult’ seems to mean either sex or course language.
