Is it wise to marry younger women?

My problem is that I should NOT have to deal with what her ex did because if she can’t trust me…don’t marry me.
Agreed excaliber. However, you will never know if that older woman (or any woman for that matter) can trust you (and let go of any past hurts) unless you give the woman and the relationship time to grow. If given enough time, you will know whether the other person can get past the hurt and trust you. You can not expect this upfront.

Liberanosamal

I just read about what happened to you.
I realy am sorry, and don’t want to sound as if I am not hearing you.

I hear you, but there are somethings I respectfully disagree with.

My family has been through divorce. So when I say I am on your side…I MEAN IT. Protecting women from so called “men” is important to me also.

After seeing my mom go through a divorce, I canot IMAGINE putting a family through that. THAT’S WHY Im being so picky.

I don’t mind proving my love to a woman. I just don’t want another man in her heart with me…dose that make sence?

Excaliber, it would seem that it is not just older women who have baggage, but that you yourself appear to have some due to your experiences. That is fine if you feel that you will not be able to trust a woman your own age to not carry some form of buried resentment towards men. You just have to realize that in making that decision, you are cutting down the field considerably for yourself. Maybe you are narrowing in on what you really want or maybe you are setting yourself up to be left out in the cold.

Consider for a moment though that real true love, the stuff that lifelong marriages are made of, is not all about getting what you want. It’s about sacrifice and surrender for the good of the spouses and the children. That is precisely why marriage is a vocation.

I agree with you, good point.
yes give time to heal and grow.

I agree 100 percent. perhaps my view was a bit narrow.

I just saw things happening in other marriages and I thought that was a way to avoid it.

but mabey Im wrong and need to pray more. Mabey there is no SURE way to avoid problems.

Maybe we should all only date one person and end up marrying that one person. That way, NO ONE HAS BAGGAGE!!! Actually, wait, original sin happened. Whoops, baggage!

As for Liberanosamalo talking about a woman having misgivings even after marriage, it really does go in stages. A woman needs to feel she can trust a man but many women were with men they thought they could trust, men who were the kindest, most chivalrous, loving men before the marriage. It was after the marriage that these things started happening. I could understand a woman being wary. A husband marries a woman with all of her past, he can’t just take what he wants and mold her into what he thinks a perfect Catholic woman will be like. That means, if she still has some of her past (and she always will), a husband would be supportive, help her through the difficult times, VALIDATE HER FEELINGS, hold her when she cries, and live his life showing what it REALLY means to “love his bride as Christ did the Church.” She will always have it but a man can prove to be a supportive friend, partner and lover to her.

Praying more would be a good idea:)

After reading through this? I think OP is coming with severe baggage based on his views of looking into other’s marriages.

Ex, you’re coming with a big “wish list” of wants and don’t wants and you’re bound to set up whomever you marry with an impossible task of being “perfect”.

Again I say, just be open to God’s will in your life. See where He leads you. The absolute love of your life may very well be an older woman or a younger woman with a divorce/annulment. Would you really want to pass on that for impossible ideals of wanting to know ‘every thought’ or misgiving someone ‘may’ or ‘may not’ be harboring?

And PL Teen, we’ve disagreed on many topics it seems. You’re pretty sure the way the world works. To you most people are good. Perhaps they are. But all it takes is one or two really bad ones who blend in with the crowd until it’s too late to ruin your world. You are good at telling people they are wrong.
I know there are horrid people in the world. I know there are horrid things. But for the most part, on a day to day basis, I’ve encounter good people who smile back when you tell them hello, are generally helpful. And I know I tell people they’re wrong, if I agree I generally don’t bother to post as it’s been said. So it comes off as I disagree quite a lot.
And we all know at CAF what Biblical submission is. However, you can marry a man and agree to be submissive and find out he’s a wife-beater who has used Biblical submission as a cover for his own cruelty and lack of respect for women. You expect a woman who endured that to just forget that experience and the next guy who comes along waving a Bible gets a free pass because he might be nice? Would you also stand and judge such a woman who goes from one wife beating husband to the next and act like something is wrong with her? Damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t.
I never said blind trust from the start. And if I did, I take it back. Reasonable caution is reasonable. But the idea seems to be that people are holding past relationships against a whole gender, which doesn’t seem very fair.
Excalibur doesn’t know me. He doesn’t know that I once fell for the guy looking for an innocent young girl and waving poems and love songs and romantic restaurants in her face, promising all kinds of things. Turns out after the wedding he wasn’t what he seemed. He made the marriage a mockery, all the while insisting on his authority, by violence if necessary. Excalibur doesn’t know that women like me have had such men destroy their lives and their children’s lives. My respect for marriage is such I will never fall for that kind of man again. They don’t wear signs. You have to listen to the subtleties of what they say and how they say it. Yes, every man who comes along has to prove to me he isn’t another fake.
I am deeply sorry for what happened to you. No one deserves that, ever.
PL Teen, come back and pick at my words in another 20 years after you have run a home and raised children alone for a decade and a half. See if you can do it while hanging onto your faith and earning a living. Tell me how most people aren’t date rapists when you hear your teenage daughter tell you about the things her friends talk about after high school parties… waking up with their underwear missing and knowing they had been raped while they were passed out around “friends” they thought they could trust. Tell me in 20 years how most people are good.
My father walked from Krakow to Częstochowa, over three days, because he promised Mary he would if I got better when I was a sick premie at 24 weeks. He fasts every Friday for me. My boyfriend frequently stays up half the night talking to me, many times refusing to hang up if I’m in the middle of an OCD panic attack. When I was in London with him he also made sure I was alright, and gave into my petty demands about washing hands a hundred times. When the bus took off before I could get off and after he had already done so, he ran after it. People that I meet on the street are generally nice. This does not mean I have not walked by a drunk guy who can barely stand, or never been spit on before, or had one of my best friends turn into someone I can’t even look at anymore.

But most people are good. Most people do not try to embody evil or nastiness or hatred. All people are Children of God, and a good deal know that.

I don’t plan to raise my children alone, I plan to raise them with the person I trust most, who knows everything about me, and who I know everything about. I plan to have a good Catholic household. I’ll be damned if my children are foolish enough to have moronic friends or go to shady parties. And God help the person who dares harm any of them.

I have had a good life, a very very blessed life. I am optimistic and cheerful and I like people. I forgive others because you are supposed to always forgive, and I try my best not to hold things against others, be it a past actions of their own which they have repented for, or an action of someone I know. My father is a true man of God, and my first and only boyfriend is my perfect match, my brother is my dear friend to me. Yes, I am a naive little ingenue who still believes in the good of others, and I very well like it that way.

PL Teen, I’m glad for you.

I believe people are good for the most part. But remember that a lot of people are not so blessed. This happens to people who don’t have “moronic friends” or shady parties.

I myself almost got raped and I was not at a “shady party,” most of my friends were good friends and well, I lived in a very affluent neighborhood, went to a good school, and had a good family. I was sixteen. I didn’t say anything till I was nineteen. All because my trust in people was betrayed.

I still believe people are good, but I also know that some will take advantage of that belief. I also know that they may be few, but your life is never the same when you’ve encountered them. You become watchful, suspicious, and much more careful about the company you keep.

I think that’s the point Liberanosamalo was trying to make.

I’m so sorry you went through that, SanctaMaria.

I know bad things happen to good people, and terrible things happen to people who never deserve such things. You don’t need morons for companions to be lead astray, I know. But the paragraph that Liberanosamalo wrote was directed to me and my as of now hypothetical family.

Of course people become suspicious. Due to having many a friend turn away from me, or gain views so different than my own that we cannot even speak anymore, I rarely go out with ‘friends.’ I have no best friend, truly, no group of peers that I hang out with. There is family, and very close old family friends who are basically family anyways. And my boyfriend, who might as well be family. I have… literally two people I count as friends who I might keep in relative contact with over the next few years. It’s easy to see how worse it would be should there be romantic ties. But I don’t hold the actions of one old friend against a new one… but then again, all the new friends either follow pattern, or I myself just can’t do friendship anymore. 🤷

I very well like you that way to LOL
I felt good just reading that post, know wounder your boyfriend
will wash his hands a hundred times for you. I hope that goes well for you.

People like you remind me that the glass is always half full!!

Neither did I. I married my one and only, the first man I ever loved. I planned to have a good Catholic household too. My kids were never going to eat potato chips.

You can’t pick your children’s friends, no matter how hard you try. And that “shady” party was a prom party in a good neighborhood. And the girl was lamenting to my daughter that she wished she had come to the party I threw because it might not have happened to her. Young people are famous for making foolish choices.

You are lucky you have a good boyfriend. Your father sounds like a wonderful man. I hope life continues to bless you. But some would say because of your past hurts you now pick friends the way Excalibur criticized women for picking boyfriends and viewing everyone through eyes of past experiences.

Maybe you aren’t as different from me as you initially claimed. 😉

It took you three pages to figure it out, dude, but this is the answer to your question. 😃 Go in and work for the best.

What’s more surprising, Liberanos and ProLife actually agreed. See where three pages can take you.

😛

Fine, fine. I agree… more or less. I still think judgment for the most part should be reserved, but one does have a past of their own that brings in an outlook. 🙂

I read that “reversed”. I probably need to go to bed. I’ll continue being a jerk tomorrow, if you’ll excuse me. 😛

Nope…nope…nope

I don’t agree on passing judgement on people based on what someone ELSE did.

That is border line prejudice.

A person could have been robed by an asian, dose that mean all asians must now prove that they are not thieves? no

A woman may date a sports star for his money. This woman may leave the athlete for someone wiith more money. Dose this mean
all women are after money.? no

Some political people lie on purpose, dose this mean all in politics are bad? no

people develop prejudice against the Catholic Church based of priests who abuse children.
Is it ok to judge all priests and not trust anyone because of what some have done? no

In every single situation its not good.

Saying all older women don’t respect men isn’t correct. And I would get it if I said something like that.

caution and prejudice is not the same thing.

Having this anger inside against men or women is wrong.

I have seen people spread there anger to others. A group of guys will approach a nice young man and try to take him to strip clubs and say women are only good for this or that…Its like they try to recruit more woman haters.
Sure something bad happened to some of these young men, and they will use it as an excuse to treat women the way they do.
But its not right.

two wrongs don’t make a right.

I think you’re slightly fixated on it. Prejudice is one thing, actual judgement is another. In adopting this anti-judgemental attitude you generally fall in it yourself because now you are ending up prejudiced against women - for their being prejudiced against men. And so the circle closes.
A person could have been robed by an asian, dose that mean all asians must now prove that they are not thieves? no
Does a woman need to prove she’s judging you on your own merit?
caution and prejudice is not the same thing.
It’s not, but people aren’t perfect and they mess up the difference between the two. Besides, you won’t be dating a man-hating woman anyway, so it matters little in your life for practical purposes. It would just be nicer to see more women with more correct attitudes, to which I agree, but it’s not like you or I are sir Galahad, either.
two wrongs don’t make a right.
Of course, but sick people aren’t criminals. Yourself you say the attitude results from being wounded by someone’s wrong actions. Being wounded and failing to take a grip of oneself is not a crime. It’s wrong that people take revenge and that they give in to bad feelings and emotions, but being emotionally wounded and scarred is an affliction, a malady, from which they suffer more than anyone else does.

Has Excalibur ever gotten close enough and loved anyone enough to be deeply wounded in his life? If so, he might have more compassion for those who have been hurt. Instead of expecting them to shake it off like a leg cramp and jump back into life as if nothing had happened.

And if he had been hurt he’d understand the horrible doubt that plagues someone who chose wrongly, who has come to doubt their own ability to differentiate between the good and the bad and knows only one thing… they can never go through that again.

Maybe coming from a faith background where other people pick your partner, he’s never had to endure this. Yet he judges those who have survived, although not as perfectly as he thinks they should have.
