I work for an advertising company and part of my job involves writing articles about companies in the Caribbean to advertise them and promote their business for tourists and locals. I’ve only been doing the job two weeks and I’ve been writing about many different types of companies such as tour services, cleaning services and flower sellers, but today my supervisor gave me the task of writing about an escort service. I felt uncomfortable writing an article to promote the business of an escort service because I’m a devout Catholic and I feel to do so is against my religious beliefs, but in the end I decided to write the article. I feel guilty about writing the article because I could have told my supervisor that I would rather not write it and explained that I’m a Catholic and asked him if he could give me a different company to write about. My supervisor seems like a nice person so I think he would have understood but I doubt that he would have been impressed. It is possible that this dilemma will also occur in the future, as I am likely to be given the task of writing about an escort service again. So my question is what should I do in future if this happens? Is it morally wrong for me to write an article as part of my job that advertises an escort service? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
