Well, Cat, I think your posts contain a lot of wisdom. It is quite possible that the husband was “overly excited” for any number of reasons and not directly tied to the views at the water park. I know mine can at times get that way after a family day–even if it’s a trip with the kids out somewhere where it’s just our family and no other people. It’s very possible for men to become overly excited for any reason or no reason, or because they are happy that their family had a great time at an activity…it isn’t always from what we as ladies assume it is. It is entirely possible that the husband was not aware of his wives feelings until asking if they could return. Remember, she says the conversation happened over text message so he may very well have not gotten the extent of her feelings and by answering “you’re mean” could have been his attempt at humor because he wasn’t aware of her hurt. We have heard one side of the story, and I know that this wife is hurting. But to try to talk about something so personal over a text message shows a lack of judgment in her part and kind of backs her husband into a corner. Quite often men will make poor attempts at humor as defense. Also, the wife states she has a jealous streak. It’s entirely possible that her husband may believe that her jealousy is just showing itself and doesn’t know the degree of hurt she feels. Or maybe even in her jealousy she has misread the actions of her husband.
I’ve been married quite a bit longer than 4 years and so I also see this as a new marriage. There is no reason for this to be such a major situation like it’s becoming. Texting, especially when angry or hurt, is never the way to attempt an important conversation. I understand that he texted first, but you should answer along the lines of, “We can talk about this when you get home.” My husband is gone a lot and sometimes it seems texting is the only way we talk, but important things get reserved for phone calls, emails, or time permitting, in person. Take this as an opportunity to grow closer in marriage instead of blowing up and causing deeper harm. If he really did “just use you for release” you need to make it clear–through calm conversation–that it is unacceptable. Let him know that it is hurtful and you will not allow it to happen again. But if you are wrong about the way it all played out be willing to apologize for your suspiciousness of him. If he is a decent man he will understand and make adjustments to prevent future problems.
