After I pray the Hail Mary, I add:
“Saint Jude,
Apostle martyr
and relative of Our Lord Jesus Christ,
Mary and of Joseph,
intercede for us.”
After I pray the opening rosary prayer, I add:
“Saint Jude, glorious Apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused you to be forgotten by many, but the true Church invokes you universally as the Patron of things despaired of; pray for me, that finally I may receive the consolations and the succor of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (personal petition) and that I may bless God with the Elect throughout Eternity. Amen.”
And after the Hail Holy Queen, I add:
“St. Jude the often forgotten, you shall be remembered.
We hail you now in glory and have recourse to you for help,
for the despairing, when hopeless seems the task, and from the heart of Jesus through you we favors ask.”
Is this wrong? I’ve learned recently that Catholics don’t really pray their own prayers and adding to prayers seems frowned upon. I wanted to honor St. Jude as my patron by always including him, but now I feel like I’ve been wrong and insulting Mary and making my rosary ineffective and pointless by doing this. I decided not to continue my rosary novena today even though I’m halfway done. I’m trying to learn the Latin prayers now and just pray the prescribed way by the Church, as best as possible.
