Is it 'wrong' to listen to some kinds of music?

Flopfoot:
I knew this was gonna happen, so I specifically stated in my first post …

…Alright then -
Find me some Christian progressive / power metal, or even ‘classic’ metal, something sounding like …
Sorry - I haven’t gotten online for several days. I don’t keep up too much with Christian music genres you mentioned (although Kutless came to mind) but I think the thing is every artist is unique. There seem to be lots of Christian bands out there (and secular bands too) that kind of imitate other bands that have influenced them. But certain bands who are highly original, such as Queen or Rush … well who can really duplicate that sound ?

I think your original question, “is it Wrong? …” shows you are looking for your music to go along with your faith. I think that is very cool … but in a way maybe kind of hard. I guess the question could also be, “do i have to give up some of the things i like to follow You (Jesus) more closely ?”

I’m not saying you have to throw out all your Guns and Roses CDs because Axel Rose said a swear word in some interview somewhere. I’m just saying … well I guess keep looking - if you find even one or two Christian bands to your liking, that could be the beginning of a new musical direction for you. Let’s face it, all of our tastes change as we progress through life. (well - i guess not everyone’s…) Sometimes i think it’s worth it to push that process along.

Anway, here’s praying God will help you out, brother. 👍

Its really hard to say but - i am not really sure if “ITS WRONG” but all i know is that i listen to a lot of hip hop/ R&B and i like a lot of the vocals in the R&B. And i don’t agree with a lot of the hip hop messages with violence but a lot of the songs have a lot to do with a story behind it or some hardships the artist went through. And when i listen to some hip hop artists, some songs have a lot of meaning and some sound like they are releasing aggression. Im not sure if that is the right way to express anger. And i do listen to some christian music - i find it very spiritual and calming. But no matter what content of the music, i still will continue to love the lord and will never loose my faith and no music will deprive me of beleiving in him. but i was always curious about that question anyway - here is just some of my (name removed by moderator)ut. 🙂

I think that some music is very very bad for some people. I have found some music that has very depressing of sick lyrics that I find hard to believe would be enjoyed by the well grounded (God Smack comes to mind and I know there is worse).

But the worst in terms of personal destruction are the sweet melodic songs that entice a turning from God. The one that comes to mind most is Imagine by John Lennin.

Having said that, I don’t think that music by itself will cause the ruin of souls.
