Is it wrong to use Planned Parenthood?

I get what bothers you here but please don’t sacrifice your health to prove a point.

Yes, she can look into other options - but what if this is the only one that can work for her? It’s naive to just assume that there’s something perfect out there. Life doesn’t always work that way.

So by all means, look, but if it comes down to this or nothing, please go.
It is NEVER PP or nothing. Never. There are dozens of other clinics and health care facilities that will help her. PP likes to tell their clients that no one else does what they do, and in a way, they are right. Since PP is the largest abortion provider in the world, they are in a category by themselves.

That depends on where you live, how broke you are, and how long you can wait. Towards the end of college I started having pretty serious womanly issues, and my campus health center still charged me a small fee that I couldn’t afford. I called tons of charitable non profits. All of them had weeks long waitlists and many still charged. PP was the only place that could get me in right away and that I could afford. And when you’re 22 and in the physical pain that I was in, and told that you NEED to be monitored for infection or worse, cancer, you go where you can.

You also have no objection to Planned Parenthood, since you are pro-“choice” and an atheist. I would go to an emergency room and pay every nickel myself rather than go to PP for anything. But that’s my moral, ethical, and religious decision.

Actually, if you are at all concerned about racial discrimination, you SHOULD object to Planned Parenthood, since the organization was founded in order to eliminate “human weeds” which were the black former slaves after emancipation. Look it up.

If that’s a debate that you want to have take it to my inbox. Needless to say you’re misinformed. Margaret Sanger did believe whites to be superior, and did believe in eugenics, but not to rid the world of blacks. She did a lot of work in black communities, set up clinics that were run by black people, and she was very against abortion. She was actually pro birth control to prevent abortion.

Her views on eugenics had little, if anything to do with skin color, and she did not believe in killing anyone once they were conceived.

Regardless, if you want to risk your life and bankrupt your family, that’s your choice. But I don’t think that it would make the OP any less moral to make a different choice. Especially since that hospital you’re talking about won’t do routine testing, they will only stabilize you in an emergency. And of course, chances are good they do abortions too.

I have been being followed by my OB/GYN for a medical problem, and am supposed to be getting checkups done every 3-6 months.

Because of my child’s medical issues, my hours at work were severely cut for a while, and as a result I lost my medical insurance. Even though I am able to work full time again currently, it will be a minimum of six months before I am eligible for insurance again.

In the mean time, it has been six months since the last checkup, and my OB/GYN is recommending I go to Planned Parenthood to be followed until my insurance is reinstated. The services I would be receiving are not for birth control or in any way related.

I am weary of going though, because I know that I would have to pay a small amount of money for their services (since they offer a sliding fee scale), and I feel as though it is wrong to be contributing to them financially.

I am unsure of what I should do. Would it be wrong to go? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
If people would use PP for non-abortive services, then it wouldn’t be financially beneficial for them to offer them. If more people would utilize PP for their other services, they wouldn’t be utilized for their abortive services. Rewarding for good behavior makes more of an impact than fighting with them over bad behavior. Making PP out to be the bad guy is making them more popular with the secular crowd. I’d go ahead and use them for non-abortive services. There’s nothing wrong with utilizing them for non-abortive services. The immorality of using PP is for their abortive services.

Also, if they give you a discount (or free services) the do lose money.

Using the emergency room like a clinic not only drives up the cost of healthcare, but interferes with triaging more seriously ill people who come to the ER. When my friends triage in the ER, they make people who use the ER like a clinic wait hours to be seen.

Of course you can go to Planned Parenthood for your health care. The care you are seeking is not problematic from the perspective of Catholic teaching.

This woman needs health care, and the best option for her is to go to Planned Parenthood, it appears. She can do so in good conscience if she is not seeking services that violate the teaching of the Church.

This is the real world, folks. You can try to avoid doing business with sinners, but in the real world that is not always possible. If you go to a secular hospital, you can be pretty sure that the hospital will provide reproductive services (abortions, sterilization, in vitro fertilization, etc.) of which the Church does not approve. Would you tell her to avoid the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and other top-notch hospitals and medical centers? I doubt it. Don’t let your politics interfere with sound judgment.
👍

No, that is your financial decision. Not everyone is a martyr. Not everyone wants to declare themselves bankrupt to prove a point.

Ah, using the emergency services. What gets me is people who treat it like a family doctor service seem to think they are an emergency… when it isn’t. You see, the clue is in the name.

And cornflakes were invented by accident and were intended to use to stuff the mattress of monks to ensure they weren’t masterbating. Does that influence their present ideas? No. This accusation is contraversial and there are threads for that.

Since I joined CAF, this is probably the first time I’ve seen anyone other than an atheist denounce racism. So Juliane, you have got that going for you, at least. 👍

Absolutely. Emergency rooms are for emergencies, as the name implies.

Her views on eugenics had EVERYTHING to do with skin color. You can debate that all you want but the truth is the truth. Even Jesse Jackson understood that birth control and legalized abortion were targeted at black Americans, and he stated that in print, before he ran for President.

I was specifically discussing YOUR situation, not the OPs. You said you were having pain and problems with your female parts. I was not giving advice to the OP to go to the ER, but in YOUR situation, I would. Or a doc in the box. Or anywhere BUT PP.

If you truly care about the history of the American Birth Control League aka Planned Parenthood (planned by whom? allowed or prevented by whom?) then watch this movie. It will give you all the information you need about what Planned Parenthood STILL has as its mission. They proudly still give an award yearly - the Margaret Sanger award - so it’s not as though there has been a major change in their cause from founding until now.

The documentation is flawless. I have not been as disgusted probably in my recent lifetime, as I was after watching this documentary. I will never look at Planned Parenthood the same way again. I wish this documentary would spread like wildfire through the black community. I pray that one day they will understand what has happened and who really has helped them and who is not helping them.

It is silly to walk in to an emergency room and say that you need to be monitored for infections and cancer and ask for a pap. They would tell you that that’s not an ER issue and just refer you back to PP.

Almost everything in that has been debunked. And back to what L&L said about the cornflakes, it really has no bearing now.

Oh, and MLK Jr. was a big fan of Margaret Sanger, and even accepted the Margaret Sanger award.

Really? Who debunked it? Sanger’s quotes are there for history. Her mission is still being carried out. Why are PP’s clinics so conveniently located in minority neighborhoods? Is it coincidence? Or is it in order to “help” black Americans? With that kind of help, they might eventually be extinct, as Sanger wanted.

What an evil woman she was.

Of course it has bearing, but the pro abortion side would not admit that.

Excuse me, did you not say you were in PHYSICAL PAIN? That is what I brought the ER into the discussion for. Not the OP’s situation. I stated that I would go to the ER for what YOU called SERIOUS WOMANLY PROBLEMS with PHYSICAL PAIN. Got it?

:banghead: Please just do some research. You are grossly misinformed.

And where I live we have PP in all neighborhoods. The one I go to now is in a very rich, yuppie, predominantly white area.

I also said that I was told to be monitored by a campus physician. If my problems required ER, he would have sent me.
