Is it wrong to use Planned Parenthood?

Really? Who debunked it? Sanger’s quotes are there for history. Her mission is still being carried out. Why are PP’s clinics so conveniently located in minority neighborhoods? Is it coincidence? Or is it in order to “help” black Americans? With that kind of help, they might eventually be extinct, as Sanger wanted.

What an evil woman she was.

Of course it has bearing, but the pro abortion side would not admit that.
Why would MLK accept her award and praise her? Why did she work hand in hand with black people and denounce bigotry in her clinics? Yes, like most whites of the time she did have race issues. But this whole black elimination myth has gotten way overblown.

:banghead: Please just do some research. You are grossly misinformed.

And where I live we have PP in all neighborhoods. The one I go to now is in a very rich, yuppie, predominantly white area.
No, I am not “grossly misinformed,” thank you very much. You can bang your head in a smiley all you want. We are coming at this issue from opposite sides entirely. I know your POV because I was once similar to you. You have not been where I am. That’s the difference. I hope you never go into PP again.

You have “been where I am” so you get it? That’s a bold and arrogant statement to make to a stranger. So what? All non religious people are the same? You were a lapsed Catholic so that means you had the same POV I have? No. I don’t think so.

No, that is your financial decision. Not everyone is a martyr. Not everyone wants to declare themselves bankrupt to prove a point.

Ah, using the emergency services. What gets me is people who treat it like a family doctor service seem to think they are an emergency… when it isn’t. You see, the clue is in the name.

And cornflakes were invented by accident and were intended to use to stuff the mattress of monks to ensure they weren’t masterbating. Does that influence their present ideas? No. This accusation is contraversial and there are threads for that.
Who on EARTH is suggesting she declare bankruptcy?

Did you miss the NUMEROUS links provided for free clinics in her area?

I’m always astounded by the amount of logical gymnastics people go through here to justify the unjustifiable.

See “cognitive dissonce”.

bdjohnbg, if you do not find one by any of the sources, PM me. I live in the area and should be able to find one.

And God bless you for your concern! 👍

See “respect” and “whether opinions count as facts”.

The first one because I do not like your tone. I do not deserve to be spoken to like that. The 2nd because in regards to whether something is unjustifiable, seeing as there is no Church teaching against dealing with sinners I’d like to think the point is moot.

She does teach against direct and immediate cooperation in evil, which is what abortion is taught to be.

There are alternatives, as others have pointed out, so yes, the point is moot.

👍 Finally some common sense.

One would think they were located in minority neighbourhoods because they protest less than those who live in middle-class areas, whose people tend to be articulate and less likely to use a local abortion service in case the neighbours talk.

Or maybe it’s like the “telephone masts cause cancer” scare. Some guy got a load of dots signifiying “cancer” cases and placed them randomly on maps. If you see a cluster, perhaps it means the location is relevant. Or perhaps its mathematics. Newspapers saw a cluster and created a scare. No evidence has been found that supports them.

My cornflakes example made a good point about relevancy of a company’s past.

I didn’t read this thread as I figured it was going to get pretty hairy, so if I repeat something people have already said I’m sorry.

I work in medical billing and health information and in my experience there are many community clinics that provide free care, many hospitals and clinics have some sort of discount or free care program for those who can’t pay or have limited ability to pay.

I would urge you to check with local health care facilities not associated with PP and see if any programs are availible.

I didn’t consider myself a Catholic then - I call myself lapsed NOW, knowing that I was never anything but a Catholic, rather like your fiance’. Yes, I was once young, convinced that I had the answers, and ignorant (in the sense of being uninformed, not stupid) of the ways of the world. I’ve been your age, you haven’t been my age.

With that logic there wouldn’t be people your age who think and feel the way I do. Blowing off opinions because of the speaker’s age is not a good idea.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies.

The specific procedures I need for follow up care will (hopefully) only be pap exams. I have had to have several biopsies and had a LEEP procedure to remove precancerous cells. Obviously, the hope is that no more abnormal cells will return, but my doctor wants me to continue being followed (and have additional biopsies when necessary), especially since there is a history of cancer in my family. She recommended the Planned Parenthood Clinic because they offer these services on a sliding fee scale. (I don’t have a large income. I make little enough that my sons qualify for Medicaid, but just enough that I, myself, do not.)

My OB/GYN is through St. John’s here in the Saint Louis area, and has told me that without insurance I cannot be seen there (except for emergency services). I will check with St. Mary’s and St. Joe’s to see if they are willing to see me/work out a payment plan of some sort.

I honestly just don’t want to see my money supporting Planned Parenthood or any of the other “Family Planning” clinics in the area, because of the fact that they provide abortion services. I feel like I would be inadvertently supporting a cause I do not believe in.

I have considered holding off for the six month wait for my insurance, but between my mother pressuring me to just go to the clinic, and the fact that I do not know for sure that my insurance will be reinstated due to several factors that could influence it, I came to the point where I have been considering the clinic.

I will definitely check out the other hospitals in the area to see if something can be arranged, though. Thank you all so much!
St. John (Mercy Hospital) has the Kennedy clinic. You’ll get much better medical care if you go there. They also work at a discounted rate. I think DePaul in Bridgeton has a similar clinic.

Yeah, you’ve been my age (21). I haven’t been your age (I assume older).

But you haven’t been me. You do not know my life. You do not know my experiences. I could be a mature 21 year old. Or perhaps an immature one.

It is very unwise to make assumptions about someones knowledge and experience based on their age.

Back on topic - I have a question for the US members. Regarding these free-no-strings-attached clinics, how sure can you be that they will accept the OP as a patient?

Why does that matter at THIS POINT? The OP has a moral belief system that is in conflict with what she perceives to be her only option, Planned Parenthood. Others have suggested many places that will give her the same health services for free or on a sliding scale. That’s what the OP asked for, alternatives to PP. Not for a debate on PP and its origins. The OP is already in conflict with going to PP and her moral values. How some of YOU feel about going to PP and can reconcile that your own moral beliefs is besides the point.

If that’s a debate that you want to have take it to my inbox. Needless to say you’re misinformed. Margaret Sanger did believe whites to be superior, and did believe in eugenics, but not to rid the world of blacks. She did a lot of work in black communities, set up clinics that were run by black people, and she was very against abortion. She was actually pro birth control to prevent abortion.

Her views on eugenics had little, if anything to do with skin color, and she did not believe in killing anyone once they were conceived.

Regardless, if you want to risk your life and bankrupt your family, that’s your choice. But I don’t think that it would make the OP any less moral to make a different choice. Especially since that hospital you’re talking about won’t do routine testing, they will only stabilize you in an emergency. And of course, chances are good they do abortions too.
You are misinformed, and your defense of Margaret Sanger and her ilk is sickening.

I can completely understand, I am in a similar position and recently looked into pp. It suckwd but I really didnt have an alternative. We are on a very fixed income and I have no insurance and cysts on my ovaries and uterus that started acting up. This causes lots of pain ans I bleed to the point Im anemic. I need to have this always looked at becaouse at some point they are going to grow to the point its an emergency and have to be removed. Its easy for ppl to say find another option, sometimes there isnt one. My county health dept wants $85 a visit, my old ob charges $125 P plus lab fees and that is a discounted rate for ppl with no insurance. I even tried a catholic hospital ans their rates are around the same. Heathcare is very expensive these days. If you can find another option by all means do or if it is a condition that can wait, wait. If not go I just dont think God would want you to suffer, let alone possibly die because PP was your only option.

You didn’t answer my question at the end there.

was that this question:
Regarding these free-no-strings-attached clinics, how sure can you be that they will accept the OP as a patient?
Simply: If they do not accept a patient in need whom they are able to assist then they have missed their purpose.

Not true. So many free clinics are underfunded and over demanded. Sometimes there just isn’t enough money or hours in the day to help everyone. That’s something that all charitable organizations struggle with.
