When in doubt…pull out the Ephesians 5 argument.

The husband isn’t posting…so I’m not entirely sure where this is relevant.

She can’t be “obedient” if her husband is controlling. We can’t make a comment like this if we aren’t directing our posts towards the husband.

Marriage is not one-sided. It’s an equal endeavor from both the husband and wife.
Yeah.

If the husband gets fired again after 3 months, will the landlord or the mortgage company take Ephesians 5 in lieu of rent or mortgage payments? Will the grocery store supply groceries and detergent in exchange for 1 Peter 3? Will the gas station fill you up if you tear out a copy of Titus 2 and wave it at them? I don’t think it works that way.

Yeah.

Though…it would be kind of cool if you did! 😉

So, a husband cherishing his wife means saying, “Do what I want or I’ll leave you?”
Maybe Buck was pointing out that it has to go both ways? Because this particular husband does not seem to be following the first part of that quote?

Oh, yeah!

I was just thinking that “…do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them,” would be great for the Taco Bell drive thru.

Maybe, but most of the time, people use the Ephesians quote to justify a husband not doing right by his wife.

I would NOT quit your job. It sounds like your husband is emotionally unstable and you need to be able to support your children in it becomes necessary. If he thinks you aren’t getting enough housework and cooking done, use some of your ample income to hire cleaning help. I think you should seek some counseling about the situation as well.

Seems to me like although he got a job, he hasn’t fixed his mental illness–it morphed.

Right now, I think your no. 1 priority is your children, not your husband.

Thank you everyone… Even if I only knew you through your posts, I know whatever you’ve said has truth and concerns. God has answered me when I wasn’t sure how to know if enough is enough, He has lead me the way, I have seeked help with domestic violence hotline and as well as. A psychologist counseling. Something worse happened which validated my decision. I am so glad I have the support that you all are showing me and I have a family support as well. I thank God that He had opened my heart and my mind, according to my relatives which were happy for me , 20 years is enough, all along I have not known that it’s been that long that they have witnessed but never had interfered. Pls include me and my kids in your prayer that God will show and tell me the next step. I depend my life on Him because I know with Him everything will be good.

I certainly WILL be praying for you…and your kids, of course. Your family members who are standing by you now sound wise and helpful. And I will be praying for you, as I suspect most other posters to this thread will. Take care of yourself and your kids, and I hope you have a safe, happy life, with God leading you as only He can!
