Is kissing a sin?

If you were married, and your husband went around kissing other women, would you be okay with that?
Well, I wouldn’t want him telling them that he loved them and would like to marry them, either, but obviously that doesn’t wait until after marriage. There is a level of exclusive affection that is appropriate in a chaste courtship.

Having said that, I have been engaged in my life and not wound up married to the guy. It happens quite often. You have to look down the road and act so as to not have regrets, should that happen. Most courtships, after all, do not end in marriage.

One is supposed to guard one’s heart before marriage.

‘O Ye virgins, I have but a word to say to you. If you look to married life in this life, guard your first love jealously for your husband. It seems to me a miserable fraud to give a husband a worn-out heart, whose love has been frittered away and despoiled of its first bloom instead of a true, whole-hearted love. But if you are happily called to be the chaste and holy bride of spiritual nuptials, and purpose to live a life of virginity, then in Christ’s Name I bid you keep all your purest, most sensitive love for your Heavenly Bridegroom, Who, being Very Purity Himself, has a special love for purity; Him to Whom the first-fruits of all good things are due, above all those of love.’

St. Francis de Sales

Yes, unless it’s a non-passionate peck.

There are a number of sermons on purity issues here that go into the details.
You are not the magisterium of the Church and as such you can’t say that kissing is a sin unless its a non-passionate peck.

I saw your link. I would discount it as the website doesn’t identify themselves and could be anyone.

Lustful kissing that can lead to sex would certainly be sinful. But a romantic loving kiss between a boyfriend and girlfriend is fine. Couples don’t start to love one another on the wedding day.

If you were married, and your husband went around kissing other women, would you be okay with that?
no, i would most certainly NOT be okay with that. not by a long shot. if he did things like that i would walk out the door as fast as you can say, “it”. his actions would be adultery.
because he is married, and reserves kissing to his wife, not other women. the kissing on each cheek is a custom in certain lands. but if my hubby did that, then i wouldn’t like it but i would respect the custom. but kissing other women? no way man. never.

I love these threads. They’re worth the time just trying to figure out if half the posts are serious.

And they say Catholics aren’t any fun.

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply

Wait one minute here! First of all, what is the definition of a sin? CCC 1849, "Sin is an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbor caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods. It wounds the nature of man and injures human solidarity. It has been defined as “an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law.” I severely doubt how kissing someone you love could possibly be.
A. Contrary to eternal law
B. Failure of love for God and neighbor
or C. A perverse attachment to certain goods. Being affectionate with someone you’re in a relationship with is hardly a “perverse attachment.” I say the idea simple kissing is sinful is a case of extreme scrupolosity. Last time I checked, Jesus also said- “Love the Lord your God with all your (etc.) and your neighbor as yourself.” Since kissing is a failure to do neither, this is a fruitless debate. Now, if you go from kssing to anything else of an explicitly sexual nature- that’s where the gray area turns to black and white.

Last Sunday at church a overheard a group of girls talking about their older sister’s relationships. One girl mentioned her sister kisses her boyfriend and another girl said “Oh that’s a sin, To kiss before your married.” So I was wondering if it’s a sin just to kiss a boy before your married? 🙂
Unless it gets carried away to the point where it leads to sexual activity, no, definitely not sinful. What a boring world this would be if that were true.
