Is Michael Richards Catholic?

I read online that Richards was raised Catholic, and is not Jewish He is a 33rd Degree Mason.
 
I read in the Chicago Trib that his PR people are saying that he is Jewish. That’s in response to accusations that he made anti-Semetic jokes a few weeks ago. I imagine that if it comes out that he made anti-Asian jokes, his PR people will admit he’s actually Asian as well.
 
Let’s put this to rest. Michael Richards parents are Catholic and he was raised as a Catholic. He attended parochial school in the San Fernando Valley… Crespi Carmelite, I believe. His stupid PR man can say anything but these are the facts.

That being said, it doesn’t matter what religion Richards is…he went way over the top and he probably has no future in show business. From reports, his blowup wasn’t an isolated incident, either.

A guy I work with who is a Mason showed me a Scottish Rite magazine article that was about Richards being a 33rd Degree Mason, because we both liked the Seinfeld show.
 
Late Wednesday, TMZ reported that two Los Angeles residents, Carol Oschin and J.P. Fillet, say they were at the Improv on April 22 when in the middle of Richards’ skit, a man in the audience said something to the comedian and Richards allegedly launched into an anti-Semitic rant. According to Oschin, Richards screamed at the man slurs that included "You people are the cause of Jesus dying."
Oschin says the rant continued and Richards stormed off the stage. Oschin and Fillet say that at first they thought the tirade was part of his act, but quickly it became apparent that it was not.
Rubenstein confirmed the comments about Jews, but says it was part of the act. Rubenstein says Richards told him: “I’m not anti-Semitic. I was playing a role and poking fun at the rednecks.”

So I would say Richards is not probably not Jewish. If he was I don’t think he would have just said I’m not anti-semitic. I think he would have mentioned that is Jewish.
 
This is very funny. My guess is that he doesn’t identify as Jewish or Catholic. Maybe he has ancestors in both group? Perhaps his parents were Bridgette and Bernie, and he was raised secular?

Whatever the case may be, from viewing his outburst at the comedy club where he was performing, he must be on drugs, he seems very tightly wound to me. That outburst was “uncalled for”, as an audience member so rightly said. His tirade was unbelievable, I’m amazed that anyone can make it in show biz whose would indulge in such a spectacle. His apology was odd as well. Maybe he needs a mental health consult, or a CT scan of the head? Perhaps he has a brain tumor…

Nothing, every religion has members who make asses out of themselves from time to time.

But I think you bring up a good point. The bottom line is that “race” for any given culture is little more than what people try to define it as. Hispanic has only recently become a “race” in American parlance, but when you consider the original definition of race as a broad grouping of world peoples by physical characteristics there is no way “hispanic” would be its own race. It’s actually an ethnicity.

Hmm… I wonder what they did in the 1990 census, then? I heard that before the 2000 census “hispanic” was not even considered as a category for race. But maybe that was really sometime before 2000. In any case, I know that in the past hispanics mostly had to choose “white” as an option. (unless of course they were of some other race)

I’ve read BOTH! I’ve read that it was never a “race” and I’ve read that before 2000 it was a “race”: So I’m not sure!

Honestly, until, today I always thought it was a “race” so it must of been consider an race at some point. I mean, I remember filling in job apps and it being an option under race.

Although, it has been many moons since I’ve done an job app. So I don’t know.
