Can I fold a Palm from Palm Sunday without desecrating a blessed object?

I figure the answer is yes, I just thought I should run this by the CAF people for caution.

I found this article that made me slightly concerned:

The author of the posted article says near the end of the article that she likes the idea of making palm crosses. She just doesn’t like to see people (I presume kids, probably) folding palms or playing with palms during Mass.

I agree it bothers me to see fragments of blessed palm on the floor but as I cannot pick up every little one myself I have to just leave it to the cleaning crew for the church who I presume deals with this annually.

Most Byzantine Catholic Churches make palm crosses after the Saturday of Lazarus during the traditional pancake breakfast right after Liturgy.

Our Religious Ed kids had a Palm Sunday session making Easter crafts. After two kids put pieces of blessed palm in the trash (which I collected and brought home to be burned with last year’s palms) our deacon explained to all the kids and their parents that the palms were blessed and had to be burned or buried.
People just don’t know.

You can make your palm into a simple cross or do elaborate braiding. Just remember not to throw the scraps in the garbage, and don’t do it during mass 🙂

Making a cross out of it is perfectly fine because you are treating it with reverence.
