Is "Personal Relationship with Jesus" Catholic?

There are Catholics who live with and receive Jesus in the Eucharist but never really know him. This is seen when many walk by a tabernacle without acknowledging His presence. For some, it is like being married but never really knowing who their spouse is, either because they are too self-obsessed, or don’t make time to pay attention to Jesus (to listen, feel, or observe), or they just don’t care.

I would not go so far as to say Protestants have an advantage over Catholics because they focus on the “personal relationship.” They do not acknowledge the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist at all, which leads me to the conclusion that they only know Him in part. How can you say that you “know” Jesus if you don’t even recognize Him when you are in His presence?

I have entered a few places where Jesus’ Eucharistic Presence was in the room next door without me having prior knowledge and I would feel a difference, a calming peace, a warmth of spirit and later be validated that Jesus was literally near me in the other room. Because of frequent visits to the tabernacle, I am accustomed to what I feel when in His Presence, so that most times I can perceive Him in unexpected places.

I would argue that anyone who knows and recognizes Jesus’ Eucharistic Presence has a very intimate and personal relationship with Him.

I think acknowledging our relationship to God in the way of Marriage is very wise!

The sacraments are Gods actual participation with us. And you are right Lady Love, some recieve the Lord in HIS intamate relationship to us but to not in return offer their relationship to Him. Marriage with a spouse is so powerful, scripture tells women to honor their husband as though he is the Lord. And husbands honor their wives as Gods holy bride. One partner can even be saved into everlasting life by their spouses faith. This is a mystery of the sacrament of marriage! And it only applies if the person honors their marriage to that believer without sinning against it.

It is true that Catholics have a knowlege of Gods Covenant (relationship) that protestants cannot with all sincere terminology and words surpass. But what Lady Love seems to be expressing is a truth that Jesus taught in so many ways. Dont be double minded. Dont be hypocrates. Dont be fake. Dont say yes to God, and then go live saying NO!

We who believe are in a relationship with Him, but is it a good relationship or a bad one?

Grace be with you,
Michael

  • I personally believe that in establishing and working on our personal and intimate relationship with Jesus we become more aware of our communion with others in His Mystical Body. It is almost like our intimate relationship with Him allows us to also have intimate relationships with others. It is through Him and of Him that we come to be one. But in order for us to grow and be of benefit to the Mystical Body of Christ we have to have a personal relationship with Jesus. We are all unique. When we work on our own personal relationship with Jesus and allow Him to work in us it is He who takes us into the intimate union with others. So to me the intimate personal relationship with Jesus needs to be there. If it is not then He will never be able to help us have the intimate relationship with each other in His Mystical Body. It is like we will be dysfunctional members in His Mystical Body trying to commune with each other but because we have not allowed Him to establish an intimate and personal relationship between Himself and us we will do nothing but cause chaos and confusion and we will be no good to other members of the Mystical Body of Christ.
To me, I beleive we have to remember that even though we are of the Mystical Body of Christ we are still individuals even though we are one body and very intimatly connected and the more we allow our intimate personal realtionship with Jesus to grow the more our intimate presonal relatinship with each other will become perfected and grow and we will be able to help each other better. It is like as our Love of God becomes perfected so does our love of each other become perfected and I do beleive we all do depend on each other a lot more than we realize and we need each other to establish this intimate personal relationship with Jesus in order for us to be able to help each other by having the intimate relationship with each other that we are meant to have.
As always hope and pray that made some sense,
*
