I wasn’t saying what you said was an opinion, I was talking about your opinion (which I can percieve) about how you liking video games, and you obviously seem to want to defend games like wow.
Which is… still saying that what I said was an opinion. And I repeat, it is NOT. I’m telling you again, do your homework.
Fantasy Magic =/= Real Magic(k?)
Also, I have just found out that real magic and fictional representations of magic are both harmful. I kind of felt sad about this that I can’t play certain video games now, but I’ll do it for God, no biggy. I found this out in Women of Grace on EWTN (I’m not a female but that show has info that’s not reserved only for women). They said that the way magic is portrayed in Harry Potter is bad because it’s the wrong way to portray magic. They say Magic shouldn’t be portrayed as good or nuetral because humans can NEVER have magic, even in fiction.
Appealing to authority is a logical fallacy.
You: “Magic is suppose to be evil, even in fiction.”
Me: “Why?”
You: “A lady on the TV said so.”
Me: -_-;;
So, although I thought only the warlock thing was a reference to the occult in wow, it stinks how all the magic stuff is a reference to the occult (shamman magic, paladin, death knight magic, etc.). What really hit me in the show was that I heard the head of all exorcists in the Catholic Church insulted Harry Potter for the magic and stuff. I have big respects to exorcists. I think they’re cool, lol. So, no offense, since you like wow, or at least it seems like you do, playing wow is a sin cuz of the all the good guys using magic.
Yes well I have a book written by my country’s most famous Catholic exorcist, Fr. Syquia. There’s barely any mention of stuff such as
Harry Potter or even things such as
Naruto,
Ragnarok Online,
Magic: The Gathering,
Yu-Gi-Oh!, or even
DOTA (all of which are more popular fantasy trends here than
Harry Potter).
Are you aware that Fr. Amorth also believed that
Satan has infiltrated the Vatican? That should tell you enough about how quick you are to believe even the most veteran of exorcists.
I’d just like to express how this news hit me hard (you probably don’t got to read this cuz this is just a weird lamantation, lol, p.s. i’m weird, and I wouldn’t have been made If God didn’t have a sense of humor). I was trying to write a book for God. It’s supposed to be Christian Realistic Fantasy. Sadly, the good guys were using magic and the evil satanists were using black magic. Since I found out that portrayal of magic as good or neutral was bad, (which was what I was doing), I got disappointed at how the story would change. But, I had to accept the fact that that was that. So, I made the good Christian guys use sci-fi technology against the evil satanist radical magic users. That was may lamentation about this revelation from God that magic cannot be portrayed to be good or neutral.
Well I’d like to express that your lamentation is wasted on something that’s even true. It’s all fiction we’re talking here for heaven’s sake.
I don’t know if I said this to you before but I’m a writer as well, hence why I don’t just defend
WoW (which I have to say, for the umpteenth, bloody time, BARELY ever played) but also things like
Harry Potter,
DnD,
Final Fantasy, and all other things that scream swords and sorcery. You can say fantasy is my “calling” as an author.
And guess what? Tolkien and Lewis are both popular fantasy writers and yet they are also hailed in the Christian community. How does your “lamentation” reconcile with them and their works?
P.S.
I can’t say how much of a position I am to tell you this but your story’s premises need work. I can’t say I’m fond of the idea of somehow of arming your fictional version of Catholicism with sci-fi given how atheists are often more likely to brand themselves as the scientific ones. I even less fonder still of your reasons for changing it into that.
