Is porn that bad for our society

Are you suggesting that God cannot bring an ultimate, greater good from any evil Satan has to offer? I have discussed this throughout this thread. For example, in post 89!
The point you are making is based on the sin of presumption. God uses all things to his purpose. You are correct in saying that. But the person commiting the sin is hurting his own soul. This is not a good thing.

😦

One more point…porn is the sexual missue of another person. So is child abuse. Are you going to tell me that child abuse serves a purpose?

Even in child abuse, God can bring about an ultimate, greater good (see posts 88-90). This is why forgiveness is so important.

Keep in mind that I’m against porn (and a lot of other evils, like alcohol and cigarettes), but I still contend that porn acts as a raw sewage pipe, similar to the way prostitution does (as advocated by Augustine and Aquinas)!

So does a child that is sexually abused act as a raw sewage pipe?

Your logic fails me.

Of course not. All I’m trying to say is that porn can act like a raw sewage pipe when viewed from the general population as a whole!

Paragraph 13 from Redemptor hominis:

We are dealing with “each” man, for each one is included in the mystery of the Redemption and with each one Christ has united himself for ever through this mystery.

Christ does not deal with humanity as a whole. Christ individually loves each human person.

If your daughter was a prostitute, would she be a raw sewage pipe when grouped with prostitutes as a whole?

“The ambivalence towards the brothel - the simultaneous urge to license and to regulation - continued into medieval times. Prostitution was tolerated because it was held to prevent the greater evils of rape and sodomy. No lesser figures than St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas argued that prostitution was a necessary evil: a well-ordered city needed brothels just as it needed good sewers. The medieval brothels were under the authority of the state, city or prince.”

In a lot of ways, porn has replaced the brothel!!!

This is very interesting. In spite of every other poster disagreeing with you, you continue to maintain that your theory is correct. John even pointed out that you are grossly misreading and misstating the Saints, and yet still you persist.

Your theological understanding of God bringing about good from evil is skewed. anything is possible with God, but you take this and turn it on its head. You are applying the theory of the ends justifying the means to God! Somehow you’ve come to this brilliant deduction that God uses pornography and prostitution to serve some greater good, implying that porn and prostitution are part of God’s greater plan. This negates the fall, human nature and free will with one sweep of the axe.

Please tell me how I’m misquoting the Saints in my post number 110?

Can God bring about an ultimate, greater good from EVERY evil Satan has to offer? Please answer this question directly with a yes or no response!

If this is true, can God bring a greater good from porn, like it acting as a raw sewage pipe? Again, please be direct with a yes or no response!

Ok Bob, using your logic, lets have a nuclear war, 'cause gosh darn wolly, God can bring good out of everything!

No, we must fight evil wherever and whenever we can! To engage in evil is a great sin! However, if we fail and there is a nuclear war, I expect that God will bring good from it!

Please answer the two direct responses I requested at the bottom of post number 112.

Sorry, not going to agree.

In real life, you encounter real people with virtues, quirks, strengths, weaknesses and foibles. A healthy married sexual relationship involves loving the WHOLE other person, warts and all. It is fundamentally ordered towards learning to give rather than to take.

Porn inverts all that. Porn is all about using and taking. She isn’t a real person, she is a fantasy that exists soley to pleasure you. Indulging in that fantasy sets you up on a wrong path that will leave you disappointed with your real spouse and focused on getting for yourself rather than giving to your spouse.

Porn is like intentionally training yourself to have a bad sex life. Ask any military guy, the key to survival in combat is training to develop the instincts. When the heat of the moment comes, you respond per your instincts. If you train yourself to have selfish, shallow, narcisstic sexual habits then that is what will show up in the heat of the moment.
Wow! Spoken like a real man. How few and far between you are. So many users out there - and they are missing out! The joys and ectacies of loving someone with all their imperfections - true love manifested sexually is the most erotic and wonderful thing!

Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bobby, Rob, …

You see, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas are not in conformity to the magisterium of the church on prostitution and or porn if you say they support having legalized prostition.

See the Catechism on porn below;

2354
Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

Dude…you are busted.

Sex, even in a marital relationship, is not that great. Sexual orgasm is based on primitive desires that last for a few fleeting moments. Set your sights higher. Seek the higher-ordered gifts of the Holy Spirit that is granted in complete sexual abstinence.

Also… Bob, you say legalized prostituion is better than rape. Bob, who are you to say one sin is better than another?

In no way does the church ever say that we should allow prostituion and porn. the church in fact says we need to fight against these sins with all of our might.

Your position is absurd. All you can do is keep quoting some obscure sentance from St. Augustine, or St. Thomas. Your position has no validity using human reason.
