Pornography has always existed. It is a sign of social illness and creats a web of victims. I wish that it would go away but due to our fallen nature. . . .
God does not interfere with our free will according to my view. He allows us to do whatever we please in the case of porn, but he has the power to bring good out of our freewill. This is why God is truly omnipotent.God will not interfere with man’s free will because to do so He would have to act in contradiction to His own nature.
This is a rant on your part. Just because I’m using one passage of scripture to back myself up does not mean I’m practicing Sola Scriptura per se. Again, my view is that God is indeed omnipotent and will certainly bring about a greater good from porn, regardless of our free will. My view is that God has dominion over the whole Earth, and as St. Paul writes: “in everything God works for good” (Rom 8:28).You are here using the protestant technique of Sola Scriptura to contradict the Catholic Church’s position on this matter. You need to either revise your thinking, or admit to not being Catholic.
At 13 years old I was hyper-sexualized and masturbated several times a day. If you search the “moral” and “spirituality” forums you will notice a number of posts where people, both male and female, suffer from hyper-sexuality.IMO i don’t believe that most people living on a deserted island as i previously posted would be habitually masturbating.they may on occassion but I believe they would turn their interests to the tasks at hand and take care of themselves and explore. You’re kinda telling me that people have no control over their sexual urges. In reality many people busy themselves with their daily routine of living and don’t have the time to concentrate on sex all the time.I don’t know you’re situation at 13 yrs.but did you spend time on your studies?Did you do your duty in regards to taking care of the house chores?Did you have extra curriculur activies in school?Did you keep busy?Idleness is the devil’s workshop.
Unless God intervenes directly, as in the form of a miracle, which are few and far between, He does not directly bring about good in this world. He brings about good in this world through the works of men who have God and good in their hearts. However, the fact that He doesn’t intervene does not mean he does not have the power. Can you grasp that?God does not interfere with our free will according to my view. He allows us to do whatever we please in the case of porn, but he has the power to bring good out of our freewill. This is why God is truly omnipotent.
Indeed, according to your view God would be unable to bring about any good from this world because most everything in this world is based on our freewill one way or another.
Yes it does. This is a rant on your part. Just because I’m using one passage of scripture to back myself up does not mean I’m practicing Sola Scriptura per se.
No rant at all. Fact.Again, my view is that God is indeed omnipotent and will certainly bring about a greater good from porn, regardless of our free will. My view is that God has dominion over the whole Earth, and as St. Paul writes: “in everything God works for good” (Rom 8:28).
How did/is the Paxil helping?Well, I remember living with my parents with no porn and I began to burn with sexual desire when I was about 13 years old. This continued into my 50s until I began a anti-depressant called Paxil which retards the libido as a side effect. So, yes, I would have to say the same would be true if I lived on a deserted island.
The story of Joseph is just one of many stories in the bible where God brought about good from evil freewill. Joseph’s brothers beat him and sold him into slavery, but God brought it to a happy ending!Unless God intervenes directly, as in the form of a miracle, which are few and far between, He does not directly bring about good in this world. Repressed sexuality does indeed lead to severe psychological problems. Why do you think that people have to commit sexual sin or else there will be psychological problems? Psychological problems occur when someone treats another person as an object for their own pleasure seeking and not as a human being.
What is your intention in this line of questioning? You realize that you are promoting a line of reasoning that encourages evil and the destruction of people’s lives and their salvation, right? Sin removes people from God’s presence and endangers their salvation, threatening to separate them from God and from happiness for eternity. I am trying to think of how I can resolve the dilemma that you are in with this question, but you need to step back from the mental chess game you are playing with yourself and look at what your academic logic is doing to people’s salvation. Nothing is important if a person is not saved. Your reasoning encourages sin, it goes against clear official church teaching against it, teachings which trump all other interpretations of Scripture or any saints or doctors. The story of Joseph is just one of many stories in the bible where God brought about good from evil freewill. How do you explain that? You twist things. How do you know that miracles are few and far between? You make up assumptions as you move along!
You say “God will not interfere with man’s free will…” I agree! But that has absolutely nothing to do with God being able to bring about good from our behaviors that are based on free will.
God works through evil men just as he does the righteous men.
God is perfectly able to bring about good from the porn that exists in our society! This is where we disagree! You turn this simple disagreement into a rant to try and disprove my point!
What kinds of psychological problems?Repressed sexuality does indeed lead to severe psychological problems.
Mostly neurotic problems. What kinds of psychological problems?
So practicing the virtue of chastity and following God’s commandments causes one to be neurotic?Mostly neurotic problems.
I’m 100% against porn. However, my only point is that God can bring an ultimate, greater good from any evil Satan has to offer. In the case of porn, I believe it acts as a raw sewage pipe that deals with a hyper-sexualized society. This line of reasoning is consistent with the views of Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas on prostitution, as presented in post number 110.What is your intention in this line of questioning? Does the Church officially teach that pornography acts as a “raw sewage pipe” as you say?I’m 100% against porn. No, but nor does the Church teach specifically on prostitution acting as a raw sewage pipe as maintained by Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas.Does the Church officially teach that pornography acts as a “raw sewage pipe” as you say?
The church does teach that prostitution and porn are evils which should be stopped. She teaches that there is no good involved in perpetuating either of them. No, but nor does the Church teach specifically on prostitution acting as a raw sewage pipe as maintained by Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Again, I agree that porn should be stopped, but I disagree that the Church teaches that there can be no ultimate good in either of them. I won’t say you are wrong however I can see from you’re last comment that you read and believe what current psychologists teach. Most all of the psychologists teach a sort of scientific modernism.Ask a good Catholic psychologist. You’ll get alot clearer truthful answer.EWTN had two psychologists on a few weeks ago and they were discussing how most modern psychologist are giving bad advice to their patients.Psychology has changed enormously in the last 50yrs.Im sure you are aware of that. That doesn’t mean it knows alot more. With all this modern psychiatry and psychologists out there today you would expect there to be less mental illness. However there is more mental illness today than ever.Logically we know its not working. At 13 years old I was hyper-sexualized and masturbated several times a day. If you search the “moral” and “spirituality” forums you will notice a number of posts where people, both male and female, suffer from hyper-sexuality.
I don’t think work will cure anything. If anything, sexual urges will get repressed and lead to severe psychological problems.
Porn is very bad for society. If it weren’t for porn, we wouldn’t have a lot of the sexual immorality we have in this world. Porn leads to masturbation which is a grave sin. Porn also leads to fantasies which can lead to a husband cheating on his wife as an example. Pornography is a grave evil and it needs to be stopped.
