But you are delusional…
Wow. Very impressive.
You don’t have a strong proposition.
Umm… strong meaning “bold.” Not strong as if I have proved it, or have even begun to defend it . . . (which I can and will on my new thread).
You want to argue from the bible alone?
I am ready when you are . . . 👍
I have been there, done that. That has got to be the worste catholic apologetic site on the web. Seriously. If you want to see how desparate they get, see the confirmation section, and behold the art of Scripture twisting in its most radient form. What a performance of true catholic scholarship!! :tiphat:

The Catholic religion needs to be reconciled to Jesus Christ. When and if this ever happens, it will only be by the rich and powerful rediscovery of the authority and centrality of the Scriptures in the life of the church. Until then, may the body of Christ pray for your insitution.:gopray:
Why do you think the CC is not a “bible Church”? It seems that is what you are implying. Why do you think your Church’s interpretation is correct and the CC’s isnt?
have you read the catechism?
The CC has always viewed the scriptures as authoritative and still does.
Your high view of Scripture divorced from the rich history and centrality and authority of the CC that canonized it is perplexing to me.
The “bible, holy spirit and me” mentality of many unfortunately results in many Christians missing out on the rich heritage of the Catholic Church and central role that played.

:bigyikes:

isn’t that the basic definition of arrogance?

I’m not intending to poke fun, just to point out to you what you are really saying?
How did you come about this AUTHORITY of which you speak?
The word of God, the revelation of Christ, the deposit of truth, the faith of the Church, was at the first preached (orally) and then, at a later time, it was committed to writing, and handed down to us in the Scriptures to be the ground and pillar of our faith. 👍

Interpreted correctly within Catholic Church tradition who guarded it against heresy and the misuse of those Scriptures outside the church. Not the Scriptures but what they convey about Christ who is the object of our Faith. Those scriptures have been given via the CC who Christ is the head.👍

Saint Augustine: “Let us rejoice then and give thanks that we have become not only Christians, but Christ himself. Do you understand and grasp, brethren, God’s grace toward us? Marvel and rejoice: we have become Christ. For if he is the head, we are the members; he and we together are the whole man… the fullness of Christ then is the head and the members. But what does ‘head and members’ mean? Christ and the Church.”

How is it “arrogant” to put the word of God above the word of man?

By “putting” the word of God anywhere, one would be taking ownership of God’s Word and then assigning some rank, meaning or value to it. That’s arrogating authority over the Word of God.

It places the “putter” in the position of control. The person who decides on the meaning and interpretation of God’s Word for himself, assumes that he has the authority to decide what God meant. He makes himself God’s equal, or perhaps better than God because he can explain it and supposedly God Himself cannot.

The most arrogant thing about it is that this method (of taking ownership of God’s Word to oneself) is admitted for what it is. No greater authority is acknowledged except that of oneself.

the poster put God first, not his self. Why do you keep saying this?

That isn’t biblical.
The Church is the pillar and foundation of truth.

if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
1 Timothy 3:15 (from a protestant NIV) **

You are mistaken in so many small things, that you are going to have to take some responsibility for re-educating yourself in the truth.
There is no need for any of us in the forums to rewrite the catechism for you, when it’s free, and your disposal on the web. Catholics all believe the same thing. We can show you for yourself where to find the answers. There really isn’t a need to rehash in my own words what you can find in a nanosecond on a Catholic website.

Look up your questions in the catechism.
And I’m not saying don’t ask them here… Do that, but don’t expect a catechetical response in every post.
Free Catechism with all your questions answered right here:

You are waiting for a quick proof text answer, and we don’t do that as Catholics. Our responses are lengthy and encompass the whole bible, and all of Catholic thought over 2,000 years. We just can’t respond in a protestant manner.

You’re changing the topic for some reason. I’ll have to assume that you concede the point and have no defense and therefore have decided to attack the Catholic Faith.

If you have a sincere question, then you should ask it. Otherwise, if you’re asking loaded questions and trying to score some points, I don’t think you’re going to be very successful.
