Looks like traditioninaction – is run by independents – that have broken from the Church.

The late Cardinal Silvio Oddi was one of the last conservatives in the Roman Curia.

He worked closely with Archbishop Roncalli (the future John XXIII) when the latter was Nuntio in Paris. Msgr. Oddi was made a Cardinal by Paul VI in 1969, Between 1979 and 1985 he served as Prefect for the Congregation of the Clergy.

Saint Bernadette had designs on me before I even knew of her, where Lourdes was, or even that it existed. Before I was baptized, at DW’s insistence, I crossed myself with water from the grotto. Shortly thereafter, I was “accidentally” in a crowd that received Pope Saint John Paul II’s apostolic blessing. And, shortly after that, I was in RCIA. But wait! There’s more!

Saint Bernadette is the patron Saint of bodily illness. Surviving three cancers may have something to do with her intercession. I cannot look at her photo without tearing up.
 
Generally, devotions and various rote prayers, the Rosary, Novenas, which are covered in the Period of Mystogogia … after the Easter Rites.
It’s a time when you learn the “doing” part of the work of the church. Being exposed if you will, to various ways we pray for others. They will also introduce you to the Liturgy of the Hours. and Adoration. RCIA covers a lot of tmaterial, and devotions and various prayer practices are as personal and varied as the # of people on this forum.
Believe me, they will cover the Rosary, it’s origin, the timeline of the Life of CHrist and the prayers within it.

Well, she is carrying the baby Jesus, so the focus maybe on that!
 
You’re not required to pray the Rosary, but if you are not praying it, you shouldn’t wear it. The only reasons I sometimes “wear” my rosary are 1) to have it on my person while I am going somewhere, like to church, where I plan to pray on it, and I don’t want to lose it and often don’t carry a purse; and 2) on a long car trip when I plan to pray on it while driving but I can’t make the beads go through my fingers and also drive. In that case from what I have read, it’s permitted to just have the rosary “on your person” as you pray it. I use my ten fingers on the steering wheel to count prayers and have the rosary around my neck.

Rosaries generally should not be worn like jewelry or a medal.

As others have said, the Rosary is a private devotion. You never have to say it and can be a good, faithful Catholic.

I do wish I’d read Fulton Sheen’s “The World’s First Love” years before I did. It helped me the most understanding Marian devotion.

Couple of things, getting to know formal prayer is a good thing. Think of it as singing, while there are some “singing in the spirit” times at Charismatic gatherings - it is an important part of worship for everyone there to sing the same words as one voice.

Same is for prayer, while extemporaneous or personal private prayer is very important, to pray the same prayers that people all around the world are praying, that people have prayed for centuries is a powerful prayer. You might want to explore the Liturgy of the Hours, especially the Night Prayer. It is a very good habit to develop.
 
I’m sure its the software that cut the head off, not the users intent…crop the image in paint to fix things if it bothers you!

Lastly even though wearing it has been frowned upon by some, there still has been many highly religious individuals who have worn it, even saints. So I will continue to wear mine because I feel better when I do.

  1. No, it’s not forbidden, but why wear something as jewelry when God has given many things intended to be worn around the neck, like the scapular and the Miraculous medal? It seems strange but to each his own.

  5. It depends on the culture. If you’re not aware, necklace rosaries have been used by both gangs and mafia. While it was a misuse to show “devoutness” in this way, in no doubt took upon a different meaning than you might intend. In some places that have rid themselves of organized crime, doing so even years after this practice was stopped is still sacrilegious. in those places. It would be wise for you to ensure this is not the case where you live or travel.
  6. Saints and religious wore it attached to their waist so as to be easy to reach it and pray, not for the feels.
So yes, go ahead and do what you want. But you’d be best present yourself in a slightly more mature way.

I love the Rosary and I sought to spread the devotion for year, but frankly I am getting a little tired of the Roman Catholics who deem it necessary to charitably browbeat others about praying the Rosary.

It is a PRIVATE DEVOTION and many with their comments in this thread, though I am sure they have the best of intentions, are making some borderline guilt trip comments as if we should have a compulsion to pray the Rosary… or else!

I really do wonder sometimes if certain Roman Catholics make anywhere near the effort promoting any aspect of the faith as compared to what they do with the Rosary.
 
Could possibly be a requirement if one has taken vows in a community that requires it or been enrolled in the Brown Scapular, but generally speaking, not a requirement (though highly recommended) for laity.
