Is singing loudly at Mass good or annoying?

I think that if you have the nerve to sing you should - no matter if you are ‘good’ at it or not. So many people don’t even try to mouth the words. There is a reason we are all to sing at mass!

I remember when I was little and used to be so scared to sing in front of people. But, now I can just belt out a hymn and no one even cares. I am always looking next to me to my mom or dad to see if they laugh at me while I sing but they never do. I guess they understand that I just like singing. I’m kind of embarrassed to sing in front of my friends, however, but when I did, they didn’t care so I just belt it out around anyone now, haha.

I may get a strange look from someone when I’m singing and I’m not using the book though.

P.S. ProVobis - Please don’t think I’m picking on you about this. I also see where you are coming from, thus why I believe there needs to be a balance with this.
Actually I agree with you. When I attend the EF High Mass, I love to sing the Gloria and Credo. But I realize people around me sometimes don’t know the Latin words enough to sing along. As I don’t want them to feel inferior, I basically whisper the words. If they know the words, then we’ll sing it out loud together. Otherwise, I’ll just let the choir do its thing.
