Especially if, say, you work at the location of the pharmacy, so you’re dealing with people who know you’re Catholic and know that you take birth control pills. I’m worried that, even issues of contraception aside, people would see me with birth control pills and assume I must be sexually active, knowing that I am unmarried. I take these pills for a medical condition (which they’re the most side effect free option for), but I worry that by taking them I’m causing scandal to my neighbor.

Yes you may take them for legitimate medical issues. You can’t help what they think, you are doing nothing wrong. Could you get them filled at another pharmacy or the same pharmacy but a different location? You may have to drive a little extra, but better that than everyone knowing your business. 🙂

Sometimes the artificial hormonal treatment is the cure, or it prevents you from having to have invasive surgeries like myself.

There are less natural options there than you are led to believe. I have been through the wringer and back again with Napro. After three failed surgeries, it ended up the Napro doctor gave me a total hysterectomy in the end. This might have been prevented if hormonal treatment was pursued years earlier, or at least delayed its necessity until I was done having babies. Now I’m permanently sterile and permanently childless. 😦

My wife has to take birth control otherwise her bad period makes her irrational. She literally has a chemical imbalance that the birth control helps with. 😦

I just can’t believe it’s that hard to keep your medication to yourself. Why would it even leave your house?

It appears she works at the pharmacy, and possibly is afraid for someone else there to fill her RX knowing who she was. 🤷

Mainly because I work at a store that houses a pharmacy - so the people who work at the pharmacy would know me, plus anyone else who sees or hears me pick up the prescription.

Is it the only pharmacy in town?

No. But I guess I’d be worried about other pharmacies, like if I’m talking about my faith and the workers there know that I’m getting birth control, or something. I always feel like I have to hide my faith while I’m picking up birth control lest someone get the wrong idea.

Just don’t tell the new pharmacy your Catholic. They don’t need to know that info. Lots of women take these pills for health reasons only. They wouldn’t think a thing of it. 🤷

except your faith has no issue with birth control pills as medication.

I understand what you mean, but seriously, sometimes people are just too nosy.

scandal is something that can easily lead another to do evil, not someone’s opinion of you.

do you think you picking up prescriptions from the pharmacy is going to directly cause someone else to start taking ABC for contraceptive reasons? and usually that “someone else” is someone that you would have some authority over or be a model for. i.e. students, children, younger siblings, godchildren, ETC… not just random strangers, or full grown adults that can use their brains to not assume based on appearances. or ask you, if they really want to know so badly.

Exactly. 🙂

I have more prescriptions each month than I can count on two hands. If someone got unecessarily nosy about all my meds they’d probably think I was running a meth lab or something. 😊 Nope, just poor health. Now if I can go and get all of those meds in one pickup you can certainly pick up your one medicine from a pharmacy other than where you work with absolutely no shame or fear of scandal! 😉

If you were to go to a different pharmacy, would you really need to talk to the employees about your faith (or anything other than what is required to obtain your medications)?

There’s no need for them to know anything personal about you, unless you want them to.

I’m worried that, …
Do not burden your heart with something that may never happen! What did our Savior teach about worry? If you are chaste, and the drugs are given for legitimate medical purposes, there is neither sin nor scandal.

I believe that for medical conditions they are permitted but being a man others can advise you on that as I am not sure what conditions.

I’m curious about your worry about scandal. Forgive me ladies for asking this but isn’t one pill per day normally taken and you would do that in the privacy of your home. How would anyone know you take birth control pills?

The worry is about picking them up at the pharmacy, especially if people there know you.

You are not obliged to go to a pharmacy where people know you and if your parents or family members know you take them for a medical condition they could buy them for you.

Yes, and if people judge you without knowing all the details than it is they who have sinned.

Pick them up at a different pharmacy then. This has been mentioned more than once already.
Well, since people keep asking, I’ll keep explaining. It just feels wrong because I feel like I can’t talk about my faith (not necessarily to the pharmacist, just in front of the pharmacist) without causing them to draw the wrong conclusion.
