thanks to adstrinity for the eytomological dissertation, though think that celtic crusader was using the term cult in the sense of Jonestown, Guyana and those folks w/the funky sneakers-“heavens gate”, lol.

So Protestantism is a heresy, albeit a true heresy.

Catholicism is false, but orthodox… 👍
Orthodox IS Catholic so to say Catholic is false is a denial of Orthodox.

St Ignatious of Antioch [disciple of St John] first coined the name Catholic from the Greek Katholicos.

Blessings and peace

Don’t you just love it when Protestants come her , cut-and-paste the same old anti-Catholic Garbage, and then accuse US of being angry when we asked them to back up the nonsense they post? fallenoverthebink have been confronted on many threads and asked to back up his opinion. All you will ever get from him is cut-and-pasted out of context Scripture verses followed by indignation when you don’t interpret them the way he wants you to.
Estesbob: I can tell you have no answers to anything I have given you. You would do well to listen then. I have not cut and pasted anything here. I answered all questions with clear scripture as I have done in all my posts. You then resort to slanderous statements and try to rally others to your side because you have no idea where to go. That lostness you are feeling can be changed. Stop trying to ignore the fact that you have been answered with truth and now you have nothing left to say but attack.

What a strange statement. Surely any priest would have been aware of the whole celibacy thing before his ordination. Why did they still become priests?
Yeah they were but haven’t you gotten into something because of your passion for it then after time the reality of day to day sits in. Also think of howm many times they are comforting other women and we all know where that can go. That was not a sexist statement but a statement on vulnerability

Elvisman:
If you spread falsehoods - such as the nonsense about priestly celibacy being linked to property rights - then you are anti-Catholic.

If you expressed it as something you were told and not as a fact, I humbly

You gave this to emaraldcoast. Prove it isn’t so. You make such a stand, you prove it

I am not trying to bait anyone, [well maybe a little] but I was trying to get what non-catholics really thought and not wind up all the Catholics here.I had hoped the bashing would be kept to a minium. As for the statement about Jesus’s bros. this was discussed months ago on a couple of different threads here at CAF. some people who seemed very knowledgable on the subject of jewish faith& early langauge ,posted that the term brother could mean brother , cousin, some close friend or associate, where we would say like a brother. but this is a topic for a different discussion.

Really, how many times has that happened, and can you prove it?

But, you labour under the false pretense that a man gets the idea to become a priest and jumps right into it. A man gets the idea to become a priest, then he goes to seminary. The first year he has little contact with the outside world (at least the one kid I knew did); they have to rough it. It takes more than a year. And please note in the following article from Wikipedia: Priest, typically the age for a man to start the road to becoming a priest is 25. That gives him time to control the passions of his body and his mind so that he has time to discern if this is for him. Before he is ordained, he can leave at any time. AND, we do not hide any of this. We are not the Mormons who alledgedly keep their practices secret, we let all our men wanting to become priests this is how it is, and we let this information be open to anybody wanting to check it out.

“In Roman Catholicism the canonical minimum age is twenty-five. Bishops may dispense with this rule and ordain men up to one year younger. Dispensations of more than a year are reserved to the Holy See (Can. 1031 §§1, 4.) A Catholic priest must be incardinated by his bishop or his major religious superior in order to engage in public ministry. In Orthodoxy, the normal minimum age is thirty (Can. 9 of Neocaesarea) but a bishop may dispense with this if needed. In neither tradition may priests marry after ordination. In the Roman Catholic Church, priests in the Latin Rite, which covers the vast majority of Roman Catholicism, must be celibate except under special rules for married clergy converting from certain other Christian confessions.[1][2] Married men may become priests in Eastern Orthodoxy and the Eastern Catholic Churches but in neither case may they marry after ordination, even if they become widowed. It is also important to note that candidates for the episcopacy are only chosen from among the celibate.”

No, but, some could argue that Jesus was.
Very thorough post, but the last line pertains to me.

Yes, Jesus was. Even if yout ake out the miracles and other reasons people might have followed him, such as percieved power when Rome was kicked out, he still was a powerful speaker who seemed to be able to hold an audience.

At work today, we had a similar discussion. If the charisma of the founder is the criteria, it seems to kill the cult when he dies. THere are no branch davidians hiding out. There are no Heaven’s gate folks waiting for a repeat. Further, none of these groups has attracted anyone new after the fell apart.

Further, every other cult seems to fall into some form of depravity before the end.

Well, there’s the proof that are not, in fact part of Jesus’ Church.
You can’t speak for those who don’t believe in baptismal regeneration because there are so many differing beliefs within Protestantism.
**I’m not **saying that you’re not a Christian - I’m saying that you are a Christian who is sef-separated from the ONE Church established by our Lord.
It is impossible to be a Christian and be separated from the one true church founded by Christ. The Church he founded is composed of all believers in Jesus Christ.

Catholics can repeat and re-repeat the assertion that the Roman Church is the Church Christ founded; but it doesn’t make it so. The kingdom of God is the Church, and the kingdom of God is found within; in the hearts of the regenerate who put their trust in the saving work of Christ on the cross. Not the building they enter, the rites they perform, the liturgy they celebrate, the ministers they worship under, or the name of their individual communions.

The bible does mention Peter’s wife. He was married
What Bible are you reading? Are you making up verses again? NEVER is Peters wife mentioned. His mother-in-law is mentioned, but again, like I said, he could have been a widower.

This post from you confirms your idiocy. Not a very charitable statement, but I call it like I see it.

This type of personal attack is so common here. I wonder why. I simply have stated that there are real temptations that Priests are under I guess you can’t see the big picture enough to understand that or have no significant experience to have experienced any temptation in your life. In any event your personal attack and name calling only serves to make you look foolish

Not sure what I stated that I have to prove here. I hear your comments. I am sure that the cc does quite a bit to address this issue with perspective Priests. As I have posted before I have sweveral Priests in my family as well as several Brothers, I am aware of the attention this is given however that does not mean that it resolves this issue very well. Or that it can be resolved. The truth is that this is an issue for Priest’s despite the tendency for a congregation to make them some kind of non-feeling superhumans. They are still just men as we are, still just human as we are.

yeah he could have been a muslim too. He in fact could have been many things. Use your brain here! You keep searching though and what you cannot understand you will twist. 👍

show me! You can’t! sorry but that is a lie and one on Gods Word. I believe you KNOW that is a lie and I pray that God forgives you for that.
Pay close attention to Pauls admonition. It speaks of being eternally condemned for this exact thing! That is why so many non-cath try and try to get these points and others accross. There is Gods word left for us and there is no excuse for your assertions and the writings of men do not qualify at all in Gods eyes. Do you really think for a minute that God holds them as equal in His eyes? I don’t think so.

does this include the Arians, manacheus and all the other heretical group that arose along the years of christianity development?

**St. Ignatius of Antioch
“They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the Flesh of Our Savior Jesus Christ, Flesh which suffered for our sins and which the Father, in His goodness, raised up again. THEY WHO DENY THE GIFT OF GOD ARE PERISHING IN THEIR DISPUTES.” **

.
That would be a very starnge "church " indeed-a “church” made of people who have a wild diversty of opinons(often diametrically opposed) on the nautre of Christ and what is necessary for salvation. A “church” where many of the “member” believe everyone else in the “church” is going to hell if they dont accept their personal interptetation of their favored translation of Scriptre.

Of course we know that this mythical invisible church does not exist as Scripture assures us that God is not the author of confusion.
