Is the God of the Bible a hypocrite?

No, of course not. But I would always be willing to welcome them back with open arms if they came back to me. There would never be a point where I would say “We are done”.
The key thing here is if they came back to me. God welcomes back anyone who comes back to Him. But He can’t force anyone to come back.

I think a concept that people fail to grasp is that God doesn’t send anyone to hell. People choose to go to hell by turning their back on God.

No.
We are hypocrites for thinking we can logically understand Him. We are at His mercy.

We are human, which means we are imperefect. I believe anyone who commits a sin, without repentence in this life, that would be bad enough to warrant eternal torment and suffering, is mentally ill. Murder, abuse, etc…mentally healthy people just don’t commit these acts.

No, I don’t believe in hell. I believe we get do-overs if we really don’t learn what we need to learn in this life. I am sure you may find that strange, as well. Again, I don’t think God is a hypocrite.

i think we might be talking two different things.
You can forgive even if the person isn’t sorry.
But it takes two to reconcile.
The folks in Hell don’t want to reconcile.

I believe otherwise. Have you never been wronged by someone who you love and who loves you, but who refused to apologize? Then you forgive them anyway, silently, in your heart, and your relationship continues on as two people who love each other? As an act of love, you decide to overlook the offense, whatever it was, and the lack of contrition on the part of the other person. Obviously, you may choose not to do this if the offenses come one right after the other. But to silently forgive and genuinely move on and continue a relationship with someone who you love and who loves you is a wonderful thing because it means you accept that we are all human, and imperfect, but that love is still there.

If we can do that, God certainly can do that.

A person who is so far gone as to end up in Hell is way different from a child fumbling in his relationship with loving parents.

You, and a whole lot of other people with strange (to me) ideas, seem to think people are going to Hell right and left for sins while they still love God and at heart want to please him. It’s simply not the case.
Right.

God wants everyone to go to heaven. And He will always forgive us no matter what we do, as long as we ask to be forgiven. For all we know, Hitler might be in heaven, if he asked for forgiveness even at the last moment before he died.

If you want to use the child-parent analogy, a person who ends up in hell is like a child who hates his parents so much he moves as many miles away from them as possible and chooses to never come home no matter how many times the parents invite him back and leave the door unlocked for him.

Very interesting. That tells us a lot about you.

I would never do that. Ever. Love doesn’t abandon, especially when there is mental illness involved (which there would be, for the acts you described).

God does do that. All the time. But in your scenario, both people are still in an amicable relationship.

What people don’t understand is that God doesn’t “send” people to hell because they have too many checks on a list of wrongdoings. People end up in hell because they don’t want to be with God.

If your child hated you so much and truly, deep down in her heart, could not stand to be within a one hundred mile radius of you, would force her to be? If she despised you so much and couldn’t stand to be in the same room with you, would you force her to look you in the eye and tell you she loved you? Of course, you would want her to love you, but you couldn’t force her love you.

This is what happens with God. God loves and wants to have a relationship with each one of us. But He can’t force us to love Him back.

There are other mortal sins. Fornication, adultery. . . lots of ‘mentally healthy’ people commit those. So. . .

At least you’re honest. You say, “You believe’. God will probably understand you far better than we do. I think you will find that He will probably say, “I know you really wanted the best for people, Qwerty, according to the imperfect ideas you had of ‘being best’, and you didn’t understand the correct Catholic view. I’m not ‘holding that against you’ that you were wrong, because you weren’t trying, in your mind, to reject me.”
But now that you’re in my presence and understand, you can see why I cannot in justice permit that woman over there, whom you once or twice met and liked because she was kind, and funny, and ‘a good person’, into Heaven. She carried on a 20-year affair with her best friend’s husband, she knew that her friend knew at the end and suffered terribly, she knew that it put their kids in anguish, she knew that her own kids suffered too, and she just calmly tells me that she knows it’s wrong but isn’t sorry and refuses to repent. She went off quite willingly to hell, despite your certainty that only ‘mentally ill’ people could choose to do actions that cut them off from Me, forever”. But now you understand that my justice is infinite and my love as well. Enter, rejoice, and come in".

Wrong. If my kid ever grew up and murdered a child, raped a child, got hooked on heroin, etc. etc. I would cut them out like a cancer and then question every decision I ever made raising them to figure out where I went wrong.
God would take them back and forgive them if they asked for forgiveness.

That’s a big if. In all the addicts I’ve worked with, few actually want to get better. They just want to be enabled. Which is a really good metaphor for most sinners.
That is for God to judge, not you. Or anyone else here.

I’m sorry, but things like your previous posts are a big part of the reason so many people see God as an angry judge rather than a loving Father.

Yes. That is what Catholics believe. I was sharing a different view as part of my response to the question as to if God is a hypocrite.

God does not send anyone to hell, those in hell choose to go there, God simply respects their wishes and permits it.

I believe we were talking about the concept of hell.

A loving parent would never permanently separate him or herself from a child just because the child didn’t do things the parent’s way.
Well, it’s more so because they rejected what it is to be good and their humanity, if you break it down.

But either way, the Divine Nature isn’t human nature. Our telos, if we can use the word telos for God, is vastly different.

And God stands there with arms wide open and salve for all of the wounds, yet, some people refuse to accept the offered healing.

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

Wow.

If my child grew up and committed the most heinous crimes, I would still love my child. I would visit them in prison as often as possible, write them letters every day and work 3 jobs to make sure they had a full commissary account.
