Is the old testament God same one as the New testament God?

The first character appears very cruel and evil.
The second character appears better.

Why?!

Since there is according to the Church only one God in this Universe, such a question does not make sense. Everyone’s God including the Muslim God, the Jewish God, the Old or the New Testament God is the same God. However different people will view and interpret the nature of God differently.

In the New Testament we were lucky enough to have Jesus who describes God accurately. If it was just left to some one like Paul, we may see God slightly differently (although probably still not as bad as the Old Testament).

As for the accuracy of the OT is concerned, it also has some really weird stuff that any sane person would have difficulty believing. Even the historical stuff in it is questionable. For instance, the OT describes the Philistines as a barbaric, uncultured people. However, archeological evidence suggests that they were actually more cultured and sophisticated than the Hebrews themselves (see nytimes.com/1992/09/29/science/philistines-were-cultured-after-all-say-archeologists.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm).

The Hebrews just projected their own violent and cruel tendencies on to God and portrayed him in that way

The G-d of the Hebrew Bible (OT) is a G-d of mercy interwoven with justice. It is the same G-d that Jesus describes. There is NO difference!
