I know sometimes there are shorter versions of the Gospels and the priest may choose to read them for pastoral reasons, but is he allowed to shorten the Gospel when the Lectionary does not provide a shorter version?
Someone told me about a priest who read a shorter version of the Gospel on the XV and XVI Sundays (Ordinary time). It seems both Gospels do have a shorter version. Right?
But what baffles me
is that I was told that on Palm Sunday, he started reading the long Passion Gospel (not the short one that is read before the procession) in Church, but then he stopped rather abruptly and told the people: ‘you can read the rest in your Missals at home’.
He was not sick or anything, so nobody understood what happened. Was this right?
