Is the use of the cross in this Islamic advertisement offensive to you?

I found this picture to be very offensive to me as a Catholic because the Quran explicitly denies the crucifixion. I found the use of the cross in this case very unsettling does anyone else here feel that way or is it just me?

I looked up the name on the ad, it’s Abdul-Raheem Green. He was a Catholic who wasn’t too strong in his RC faith and dabbled in different religions before being subjugated by islam. He claims his reason for doubting Christianity was Mary’s title, the Mother of God. All his observations and questions/answers about Christianity only seem to be convincing only if one is devoid of Christian theology.

In this regard, Islam is no different from any other religion in the world (including Atheism), except for Christianity. Try to build a church any where you want in China, they won’t let you. Try to build a church anywhere you want in Israel, they won’t let you. Try to build a church anywhere you want in Saudi Arabia, they won’t let you. But, they can build a mosque or a temple anywhere they want in America, or in western Europe.

If they are not bashing Jesus, there is nothing wrong with it. They have their interpretation, we have ours. Thats religion for you.
 
I have seen so many ex Catholics in the media who have converted to Islam I just don’t understand why it is so appealing to so many former Catholics. That’s why I make sure I have a good understanding of fundamental church teachings because of my close ties with the Turkish community

Sometimes sins don’t always appear to be ugly. An anti-religious person bashing Jesus is of course ugly to most people. But islam has the same message of the anti-religious person that Jesus is not the Christ but goes about it in a more subtle way, and that for some reason seems to be ok. The stealthy way islam goes about dethroning Mary as the Mother of God, and Jesus Christ as the Son of God is just as ugly as sin as an anti-religious doing the same thing, but only if those truths are precious to you.

I see the cross used regularly by Hollywood, with the intent to be offensive. Where are the posts complaining about that? Is the difference that Muslims don’t control Hollywood?

Not very good argumentation there, BlueShadow. “Well, everybody does that”, as though all claims to truth are equal and it’s just a matter of perspective. Such indifference is heresy. It is odd that such an attitude is taken by the vast majority of Christians while Islam runs roughshod over the world due to its unflappable resolve to never embrace that view. If there is one thing we absolutely should be learning from Islam…
 
Isn’t there a legitimate question as to whether or not the movie’s advertisers had the cross of St. Peter in mind when they made that advertisement? I think it is much more likely that, if they gave it any thought at all, they probably used the inverted cross due to its supposedly “evil” connotations (being a favored symbol of Satanists and other people who really want to upset their parents/shock people).

We can’t agree to disagree, Pope Benedict XVI has a word for that and it’s called Religious Relativism, and he advises against it.

What I’m trying to get at is not to focus on how something is being said but what is being said. For example say like someone like Bill Maher rants against Jesus, but a muslim just denies something about Jesus. They are basically saying the same thing but going about it differently. Just because Bill Maher remarks are obviously obnoxious and crude and a muslim acts like he’s enlighted and speak eloquently (though their rebuttals are at times sardonic) doesn’t make it OK. It’s not that we personally doing anything to them, both are doing more to themselves when they deny the truth than anything anyone can do to them.

I didn’t even associates this Hollywood picture with St. Peter at all because every picture I’ve seen depicting his crucifixion has him in it.
 
No, I do not find the ad offensive in the least. In fact, I think the ad asks very pertinent questions, not only for Christians but for non Christians as well. The ad strikes me as a sort of invitation to discover who Christ really is, and that is an invitation all of us should accept.

No, Jesus (Son of God) gave humanity a New Covenant. Upon His Ascension into Heaven, He and God the Father, sent the Holy Spirit. That New Covenant is Not a creation of man, it is from God. They are the Trinity

From the very beginning of God’s covenant with Abraham, Muhammad rewrote the telling of that relationship. Muhammad, in the religion he created, reports in error that Abraham was sacrificing Ishmael. Muhammad then goes on (600 years after the Ascension of Christ) to error in his revision and remaking of Christ.
 
No, I’m not offended. The cross is paramount here and perhaps this will lead people to Our Lord. God is using this poster to bring people to Him. He does that sort of thing you know.

Was that done purposefully? Correct spelling is “cruicifixion”. Unless, it was spelled that way to emphasize a point ---- that the cross is fiction. It seems a very subtle statement. :confused:
