Is there a safe way to communicate with good spirits/angels?

Oh, and I am not going to try to contact the demonic. I will only be trying to reach kind/good spirits. My guess is a demon spirit will not communicate with me because then it will be giving me what I need to believe in God.
I am not saying you will “try” to contact the demonic, but rather that there are not “good spirits” and “demonic spirits” that you can contact. Anything you contact in this world that is not God IS demonic; full stop.

Perhaps you are thinking that you will contact an angelic being that could help you believe in God.That is certainly possible, but it is only achievable through prayer. Ouiji boards, spirit trances, and other occult practices to “contact spirits” open doors to the demonic. It is a grave danger to open those doors. Once opened they are very difficult to close again.

I get your troubles. I spent years as an avowed agnostic, but was essentially an atheist because neither I, nor anyone else, could prove God exists. I remember yelling at God to show Himself to me. And nothing. It was only in the depths of my despair when I stopped demanding proof and silently wept about my own brokenness that I was quiet enough to hear the Lord.

What I heard in the depths of my heart was that the signs weren’t in big flashy events. It wasn’t a burning bush or sticking my hands in the side of the risen Christ. It was the quiet voice urging me to do right instead of being selfish. It was in my child laying their head on my chest with unconditional love. It was in my wife loving and forgiving my wrongs despite putting her through Hell.

Only once I came to understand that could I quiet myself enough to say “here I am, Lord. Lead and I shall follow”. Belief is not found through proof, but in completely the opposite. It is in letting go and trusting in those things we can’t prove. I know that sounds contradictory and maybe a copout, but it is how I went from a harden secularist into formation for the clergy.

I am having difficulty in coming up with an analogy to make sense of this. It is really very simple in my mind because I have this one simple rule that I am holding onto. 1) If there are evil spirits then there are good spirits. From this, I will have no problem giving myself back to the Church. So no matter what spiritual entity makes contact with me, I will have gotten the answer I needed and I will “return to Christ” wholeheartedly finally knowing there are real spirits and spirituality as a whole.

imagine the blind faith of abraham with the covenant of God that his descendants would be more numerous than sand. yet at a very great age he and Sarah were still not parents .

you want to talk blind faith - Joan of Arc being burnt at the stake after a year in prison . read her story .

God doesnt respond that favourably to ultimatums. but guess who you open the door to. you are already opening that door with a stubborn hardened heart.

if you want to find God, do as Jesus taught, become like an infant, a little trusting child.

Okay, so I think I understand where you’re coming from, @wishful.
But if you use a ouiji board it will only cause trouble. Sure, you may get a sign. It could be a demon disguised as an angel. The demon can try to persuade you and feed you lies. ANY time you try to reach out to the supernatural other than prayer, it will be a demon. You run an extremely high risk of becoming possessed.
I suggest instead reading some spiritual books. I say this a lot, but I suggest St Gemmas diary and autobiography for starters. St Faustinas diary is another good one. How could Catholicism be wrong if it is creating such lovely holy people? Have you heard of St Padre Pio?
Look outside. Look at the flowers, the stars. Or how you can even see! Or hear! How could there not be an intelligent designer?

Usige you are kind of nailing it pretty close to where I am at. That one major human behavior of sacrificing your own wants/needs for others, and me “liking” it…that is the one thing that has given me a tiny bit of hope because it seems to go against self preservation as an animal. However, I am still not convinced that this is from God but may still just be a bi-product of preserving our lineage. The fact that we do it is scientific, but the fact that I “feel” special for sacrificing for family or even more so for a complete stranger is the one missing puzzle piece to me. My brain is hurting. LOL. You all are giving me a lot to think about.

Thank you for your response. I actually have ready the Catholicism for Dummies book. It was a very good source with a lot of good info. I probably should speak to a priest, but it is so uncomfortable to question things to another human beings face that has completely dedicated his life to it, and there I am saying, Dude, I don’t believe any of it and here is why. I do not want to hurt anyone nor have the possible impact of causing a priest to question his own beliefs! Thanks again.

Thanks. I looked them up. They felt a little bit on the fake and sales-pitchy side to me. No offense intended. But yes, you are right, I am kind of at that point of seeking a Damascas experience of sorts.

speaking to a priest is a great idea.
we all suffer in life. we all have trials. someone who is very holy told me recently, if our lives are too smooth , we must question our level of lukewarmness. because, he said, the closer we get to God, the more the bad spirits- demons - want to drag us away.

you may already have your signs. as Misstherese says , look for God in everything.

the more we see, of God in our lives, and us in the call of God, then
the more we will see.

Ha! I can see where you might think that. But this is precisely a huge part of their training. They are shepherds who are supposed to answer questions and lead. They love these discussions. Think about how fruitful and rewarding it is for them. Doctors don’t wake up in the morning and say…oh no! I hope there are no sick people today!!! It’s their job, and they are more than willing to do it.

I expect a) but hope for b) or c), and if I get d) I am thinking (maybe naively) that I just “hang up” the connection. I guess I am seeing it like this. I disbelieve at this moment, so I don’t believe that evil exists and therefore has no power over me. However, if evil presents itself (even disguised as good), then I will prevail in my new found belief in God. Because, you see, the moment I have any connection of a spiritual nature, I feel I will be saved! Does that not make sense. Again, it maybe the fact that I am not giving enough credit to the possibility of a TV show possession being possible. And maybe that is the danger, but the irony of it is, I have just that one 100th ounce of faith in me (hence why I am here asking these questions), that if evil attacks me, ultimately God and goodness will prevail. It seems to me to be a win-win scenario if I get ANY kind of response. So that is why I expect a) to be the outcome because either there is no God, or evil will not give me the satisfaction of knowing.

Hi @wishful,

I have been reading through the responses, and first of all, I want to say that I am really sorry that you are hurting, spiritually.

I would also recommend talking to your Pastor about what’s on your mind, and for help and for guidance.

I also do not recommend using a Ouija board to try and get some kind of response from some type of spirit. You’ll just be opening up a doorway to the occult and to a response from a negative entity. I wouldn’t even take that risk.

I would recommend reading about the lives of the saints, as others have recommended. There are stories of saints who had the ability to see spirits.

Here is something that you need to consider:

For those saints who had the ability to see and communicate with good spirits, they also encountered negative spirits as well. That’s the way that it was for them. They would see/hear angels and also encounter the Lord, for example, and then they would also have demonic experiences, too.

It’s not like they only had good experiences alone. They also experienced evil.

I think that sometimes God might be answering our prayers in ways that we might not realize, or recognize at times. He can talk to us through other people, or use other people to help us, but sometimes we may not realize that, until after the fact.

Sometimes we just want an answer to a prayer to be really obvious, but as it’s said, “God’s ways are not our ways.”

If I were in a place where I was feeling so low like you are, I would be talking to my Pastor. They are trained to help us.

Don’t give up, and please don’t do anything out of desperation.

You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless you!

Please see my response to (name removed by moderator) as to why I feel it is not as dangerous as many of you feel it is. I may very well be wrong. I have read a few books including one about Pio and his stigmata and I have read some about Eucharistic miracles etc. All very interesting, but they are not MY experiences. I will look into the St Gemmas diary.

Why go halfway up the ladder, why don’t you just pray to Jesus. He is only a breath away and He loves you without measure. He will answer in kindnesses.

I hear ya! Go straight to the source. If and when I do use the Ouija board, I will start with Him and ask for guidance, assistance, and safety for sure. The normal praying method has not worked for me. Thanks!

A ouija board is not a tool of God
It’s not harmless
It’s not a toy
It’s not a place to find answers
Full stop.

PLEASE do not make this mistake.
You will regret it.
If you want answers, you will find them by speaking with a priest if you don’t want to pursue it further here.

Throw it away. I implore you. Throw it away.
The prince of lies would love nothing more than to tear you from any relationship you may seek with Christ, or have with Christ, or desire for Christ.

None of that constitutes good for you.
I mean this, from the bottom of my heart. I could not sleep tonight if I didn’t say it to you, OP. The software wouldn’t allow me to reply to you a 4th time.
Peace.

It seems to me you are seeking for the consolations of faith, (erroneously through a Ouija board, which will just lead you further into darkness).

The thing about faith, though, is it is more strongly built in times of desolation, when obvious consolations have gone. I find in times like that, that I benefit from thinking carefully about times when I have felt the presence of God, or enjoyed a blessing that set my heart right. I don’t magically ‘feel’ better, but the act of turning to God when I don’t ‘feel’ anything is a powerful act of faith in itself. I hope you are able to truly seek God as He wills you to.
