Don’t worry Contarini, I agree with your statements.

My comments were in response to people who say things like…

“our God is a trinity” or “Jesus is God” and therefore, since Muslims don’t believe this they obviously don’t believe in the same God.

I have a very opinionated relative who takes this position and much of what I posted had been previously written for her. It was originally written specifically to her with her viewpoint and level of understanding taken into consideration. She is somewhat anti-Catholic and was “shocked” that the CCC would claim that Muslims worship the same God we do. I should have changed some for this thread.

You say Islam is the plastic apple next to the real apple. I agree. That is what I meant with the theological/theoretical distinction, more or less.

Can both be visibly identified as apples? Certainly. From a visible inspection only, both are theoretically apples. Now we must feel them, weigh them in our hands, bite into the skin and feel the familiar pop of skin then burst of juice and finally the satisfying crunch of the flesh. One is theologically meaty. The other is lacking.

It may not be a perfect analogy, but I was trying to help non-Catholics understand how we can say that our God and their God can be the same even though our professed knowledge of Him can be so different.

What are your thoughts on this?
After reading some Muslim posters on here such as Famdigy and Paarsurrey, they seem to believe in a ‘peaceful’ Islam.
I know most mainstream Muslims do not consider paarsurrey’s denom as Islam, however to us Christians its a branch of Islam.
But ive come to the conclusion after reading some of their posts, they see Islam as peaceful and i dont think either of these would actually hurt anyone or say anything disrespectful to anyone.
I know we dont believe in their religion or what Mohammed preached, but do you think, with these two as an example, Islam could be a peaceful religion?
Yes it could be. THink about it if Islam was a religion with a proclivity towards violence wouldnt the world be in more danger than it is. I mean Muslims make up 1 billion of the population. THere would be much more carnage if all muslims were not peaceful. At the Behest of sounding cliche most Muslims i have encountered have been relatively friendly and peaceful, -Although one of them amited that he beat some guy up after the guy dried to poor alchohol on him. Put for the most part the dont seem to hold a grudge. On a side note so far i have attended two Ramadan dinners and i think for one of the keynote speakers they had the same catholic priest.

That’s because the Muslims are militarily weak. If they were stronger compared to the non-Muslims, you’d see the bloodlust come out again.

Let’s not forget the 80 million Hindus murdered in the name of Allah, or the millions killed by the Islamic conquests conducted under the instructions of Muhammad. If Islam is not a religion of violence - how come Muhammad ordered 60+ raids on his neighbors.

How come all but one of the numerous battles Muhammad fought were in some one else’s home?

How come he told the Muslims to QATILOO (i.e. fight to kill) disbelievers until they pay the Jizyah (if they’re people of the book)?

if you want non-violence - contrast the behavior and teachings of Muhammad with those of Jesus Christ and Buddha.

The latter 2 are truly non-violent.

Muhammad killed people - including murdering young boys who entered into puberty and enslaving their mothers and sisters.

Let us respect his victims and not forget them so they don’t die in vain.

No, I didn’t say that. If that’s what you mean by the distinction, then I disagree with it. All truth and goodness come from God. There is considerable truth and goodness in Islam. Evil is a privation of good that ought to be there. There is lots of evil in Islam–i.e., a lot of truth and goodness ought to be there and isn’t–but that doesn’t negate the reality of what is there, and what is there is the same truth and goodness we know. Apple is apple.

Not that conditional love is a bad thing for after all, God Himself does indeed love His creations conditionally.
Here is another difference between Islam and Christianity. We believe that God loves us unconditionally. He loves the sinner and hates the sin.
However, the thing to remember is that what God hates, Satan loves.
God only hates sin! Satan fools people into believing that evil is good!

The Old Testamant tells of murder and spousal abuse, yet we are not known for that.

IMO, the number of radicals as a % of Islam is way to high.
When we see these nuts on tv they are a small part of an increasing number in Islam. Islam must be intellectually engages to stop this. Islam is peaceful as a whole. However, they have their crazies as well.

If Martin Luther can be so influential in error why not Mohamed? The difference in my view is Luther’s error originated in pride like Adam where Mohamed’s error was coerced ignorance like Eve’s.

.
muhammad to Christianity is what the founder of JW is to Christianity, it’s just a matter of time and place difference. They are not the first to teach heresies and have followers . After all, Jesus said their likes will mislead many, even the elect.

Please give some unqualified examples of truth and what is good in Islam.

Are the 5 pillars good?
Was Mohameds personal example good?
Is the Quran true about the nature of God, or the purpose of prayer?
Does Islam promote worldwide charity to non-Muslims like the many Christian organizations do to non-Christians?
Has there ever been a Islamic Mother Teresa, Assisi, or Jesuit Priests?

Is there one prophetic quote in the Koran that agrees with the OT prophets?

I disagree in the sense that only Mohamed was influenced by a supernatural being who I think is Satan. I do not accept Joseph Smith’s vision at all, and most other religious founders derived their belief from their own minds. Most do not claim visitations from God or an Angel.

Edwin, why have you not replied to these questions?

Christians need to ask themselves these questions:

Is there any possibility that “love and peace” can be offered by Satan?

I believe that the answer is ‘YES’.

On the other hand, is there any possibility at all that the Truth can be offered by Satan?

The answer to this is most definitely ‘NO’ because the Truth comes only from the Lord.
Could Satan offer us love and peace? Of course he could. But could he deliver them? Not even if he wanted to. He is devoid of love, and peace is impossible without love. Satan can also offer truth, since he knows what the truth is, he just rejects it. Satan will tell you a thousand truths to get you to believe one lie. Because the best lies are the ones supported by a twisting of the truth.
Do not search for “love and peace” above all else in your life because you can never be sure where it comes from.

However, when you search for the Truth, then you KNOW that it can only come from your Creator.
If you attempt to find the truth without love, you will fail. God is Love, and His Truth is Love. Without Love, you wouldn’t even recognize the Truth if it was right in front of you. Truth and Love are inseparable, and that is where Islam fails. Islam does not teach you to love your fellow man, only to love your fellow Muslim. Because of this, Islam will never be at peace with the rest of humanity.

Yes, the Bible TELLS of murder and spousal abuse. It also TELLS of child sacrifice and worshiping demons and all sorts of nastiness. But does it CONDONE these things? No, it does not. It describes in vivid detail the punishment God visited on people that did such things. The Koran, however, DOES condone murder and spousal abuse. It condones a whole host of disgusting behaviors, and it’s not shy about it, either. Mohammed himself, whom Muslims hold up as an example of the perfect man, did many abhorrent things. I don’t understand why so many people are unwilling to acknowledge the Koran as the poisonous tome that it is. Just get a copy and read it! You’ll see for yourself. Stop trying to fabricate moral equivalencies between the Bible and the Koran. It only makes you look foolish.

Because these aren’t examples for us to follow. And we therefore don’t follow these!

For instance the account of Lot having intercourse with his daughters is given simply as an account of what happened. Nowhere does it say “Do this…!”

But for Moslems, their example of behaviour is Muhammed.
