Is there life in outer space?

Are there Church teachings that deal with extra-terrestrials
No. That’s my point. The Vatican Observatory “spokesperson” does not speak for the Magisterium. The issue is not “settled” as one previous poster put it.

As to whether or not the Vatican *itself *is settled on the actuality of extraterestrial existence, (Their astronomer, at least, certainly admits, although not officially proclaims as Dogma, to the possibility - yes?) I find this query to be relatively speaking, a diversionary side road to the real, *central *issue.

One would have to renounce **all **claims to be objective, to, in a rather A priori manner, be so dismissive of the very real possibility of Life on other planets and in other dimensions. (Psssssst… there is such a thing as Angels ya know ;))

To categorically state so emphatically there is no evidence of alien visitation of this planet denies the preponderance of evidence of testimony by vast numbers of creditable people.

It is not those that accept UFO’s who have been **avoidant **in examining the prevailing theories that contadict the concept of the existence of UFO (and thus aliens) visiting this world. Rather it is those that refuse to even discuss the evidence presented, that truly violate violate the scientific method. They simply reject the data as a knee jerk, first association response, reaction.

Nick Pope, one of the people in the links provided above, is a prime example of a ‘disbeliever of UFO’s’ that later became convinced due to his work with the British Military investigative arm of the phenomen.

It is inconceivable hubris on the part of the deniers to assert, ad hominem, that our paltry understanding of the physics of this minute corner of the multiverse is 100% applicable to the whole enchilada. Good grief! It is also ridiculous to assert that everything is known** of physics in our little area as well. We have yet to understand dark matter and miscellaneous others factors. Indeed. **If **quantum entanglement, then does that not even barely open the window of suggestion of perhaps instantaneous, vast distance travel? Ahmmmmmmmm? :bounce:

There is more to heaven and earht than are dreamt of in your philosophy, …yes?

May I suggest we discuss the 'Dome of the Rock UFO for starters? This was well documented event seen by a mutitude of people and buttressed by much photographic evidence. See above links for of what I speak.

People who read lots of science fiction can be very dismissive of real science. 😃

If there is extra-terrestrial life in galaxies far away, I believe God very likely put us so far apart so that we could requiescat in pace. 😉

Yes. People that read a lot of Sci - fi can be dismissive of ‘hard Science.’ However that is not the case here, now is it?

Your suggestion of distance for seperation initiated by heaven is, interesting, however it flies in the face of the presented evidence ( see links) methinks.

Yes. This kinda settles that matter, now doesn’t it?
Do you mean that the matter is settled that Catholics may believe in intelligent material life outside of earth?

Or do you mean that the matter is settled that there is, definitively, intelligent material life outside of earth?

The former.

The latter, to my knowledge, the Church has offered no procalamation, certainly not one that approaches dogma.

As for* me,* however, I am convinced that UFO’s and Aliens have already visited and are visiting and some are conducting genetic experiments/exams on humans.

This really whizzes me!

Note as well. The Mexico (and others) Gov’t is now honest with it’s people. I should think America should be so as well. Bottom line, however, is ‘Disclosure’ that we have such visitors is already happening on a grass roots level whether the Gov’t concurs or not. Footage and discussions regarding UFO’s appears on our News staions like Fox and CNN frequently. (See above links I posted) The Gov’t might as well get with the program.

Do I watch ‘Ancient Aliens’ on TV? Yes. Is the show wildly speculative and silly? Yes. Is God an 'Ancient Alien? No. Not the Christian God at any rate.

One must do one’s own research.

Buck Rodgers agrees that there are aliens on other planets, some of them are posting on these forums. 😃

Ok.

But it’s not settled because a priest from the Vatican Observatory said it.

It’s “settled” that Catholics *may *believe in intelligent material life outside earth (despite not a single shred of evidence for this) because the Catholic Church has not proclaimed a definitive teaching on this.

Precisely.

It is also precisely settled that the church is at least open to the idea of alien life.

As is Buck Rodgers.

Unlike *some *on this very forum.

Ah yes… ridicule. The first reaction to an unwanted truth.

Ok. So what is your take of the UFO over the Dome on the Rock in Jerusalem?

Let me guess. A giant hoax perpetrated by perhaps by Steven Colbert? 🤷

I totally agree, I don’t know why others find this so unbelievable or why they are so resistant to even considering the possibility. 🤷

National UFO Reporting Center all of these people can’t be crazy or seeing things.

Here are just a few of the factors that must all be simultaneously present on a planet in order for life to develop. brighthub.com/environment/science-environmental/articles/77769.aspx
This is the current knowledge life on earth surviving. Currently we have nothing to compare but our own and surrounding planets.

Kepler Mission has discovered 2,326 exoplanets with 856 confirmed exoplanets exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/ExoTables/nph-exotbls?dataset=planets. It is now understood through Kepler that more earth-like (exoplanets) planets occur more frequently than previously thought. Recently, Kepler has detected three Earth-sized planets within the ‘fit for human habitation zone’, that is around a star and is potentially life-sustaining. These planets are thousands of light-years away. There are 176 billion galaxies, at least, in the Universe.
Even with all these factors present simultaneously, there is no guarantee of a stable environment for life beyond the micro-biotic level. The age of a planet is also a factor, since evolution requires enormous stretches of time between the micro-biotic and the macro-biotic. The frequency of the impact of asteroids on a planet will also determine how “lucky” the evolutionary process will be. The distance of a planet from its sun, too far out or too close in, can determine whether a planet will be too cold or too hot to support life. The eruption of volcanic ash in large amounts could create a blockage of sunlight that obstructs the survival of life.
Once life gets started, it can adapt and colonize many, many different environments. As indeed life adjusted here on earth, to the point where it is still occurring. In particular if these exoplanets hold earth-like conditions, it certainly increases the possibility that they harbour some form of life. Unfortunately Kepler doesn’t get close enough to look at these exoplanets to identify actual life.
Increasingly it seems, the more we study life we see a large number of fortuitous factors must all simultaneously exist for life to evolve. There is no way at present certainly to know how many stars and planets in the universe are able to collect these factors in a fortuitous way. So even given that the number of solar systems existing throughout the universe is enormous, it is still possible that only one planet has evolved life as successfully as our own.
The universe is infinite. Human perspective is very limited; it is superior to assume that our planet is the only incarnate planet. I also question our definition of life; currently it is correct for our life on earth. Everything is composed of the same particles on the atomic level, is our definition of life accurate and correct?
If various advanced life forms do exist elsewhere, the distance of space and time to travel or communicate between them may be so vast as to make impossible or highly unlikely that they will ever know of each others existence.
Your statement is based on current technology here on earth. It doesn’t consider that there could more technology advanced races of beings that have the ability of traveling space and time effectively. Hence it best to refer to previous posts on this subject.
But as science fiction writers like to continuously remind us
Correct!

That science fiction becomes fact.
… anything is possible. 😉
Correct anything is possible and there has certainly been plenty of evidence given to you in this thread.

An inclination of a thought; perhaps they are trying to prepare us for something.

TheHolyTrinity: The universe is not infinite in any respect. In fact, a physical infinity does not actually exist, infinity is a mathematical construct to make some calculations easier.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that I might have had more first-hand experience talking with the Vatican Press Office than you might have had talking to Apostles who lived 2000 years ago!.
Your saying that you have first-hand experience talking with the Vatican Press Office is as reliable as a source as my saying I have first-hand experience talking with God.

Sorry, DG, but I cannot accept a “because I said so” as a source.

I wasn’t thinking calculator here.

Your response made me laugh, not at you but at the ramifications of your statement.

Kepler: Houston we have a problem.
Houston: This is Houston. Say again please
Kepler: Houston, we’ve have a problem. It appears the universe is in a box!
Houston: Uh, this is Houston. Uh, say again, please?

Hope you can see the funny side too.
