Is there or isn't there such a thing as a non-catholic christian?

NotTooSmart;:
I have been unaware that there are any Protestant denominations that do so. Do you know which ones?
Most denominations tend to draw a very fine line here.

Adherents of the Catholic Church are not, per se, non-Christian.

Specific practices, dogmas, rituals, and beliefs are declared to be either Anti-Christian, or Non-Christian, or both Anti-Christian and Non-Christian. These items are not necessarily confined to things found in Catholic Christianity.

As a general rule of thumb, the specifics are related to when, and why the Tradition of the specific denomination rejected the specific Traditional Catholic practice, dogma, ritual, or belief.

How about new born christians in general? I once did a mops group which meet at a Methodist church and that church as a whole would constantly tell us Catholics how we were not Christian. I thought it was the whole Church that believed this but since I have moved away from that town and meet other Methodist I have found this not to be true.
Gee…I am born again and I don’t believe that.

Neither does my church.

Neither does the denomination of the church that I attend. At least as far as I know.

It’s not the official teaching of any organized denomination I’m aware of other than Seventh Day Adventists.
Well that is what I thought.

I do not know enough about SDA to comment either way.

They are arguably “not Protestant” but “Reconstructionist”.

Didn’t think of them. Dunno.

Some folks would consider them reconstructionalist instead of Protestant, but whatever.
I didn’t know either but if I had to make a guess on a denomination which officially taught that Catholics were not Christian that would be the one. I could be wrong, and I would hope for nothing else then to be wrong in this.

God bless

Well there is a difference in believing somebody is wrong than somebody is not a Christian.

I have been told I am wrong on these forums.

Many times. That is ok.

I have also been told that I have demons and my church is a brothel. That is not ok.

Wow if that were true I think you would have no problem getting sinners with sexual perversions into your church 😉

Interesting strategy though.

God bless you

We are Christians apart from the RCC.
There are two fallacies here. One is that the Catholic Church is “Roman” (it is not), the other is that we are “apart” from one another. The Apostles taught that we are members one of another, and that is why we are all joined together.

The idea that we can be in “Christ” but “apart” from one another is a fallacy.

It does say in the bible one faith one baptism. In my opinion that is pretty wrong to think you needed to be baptized again?
People do this because they leave the “One Faith” taught by the Apostles and go after “a different gospel”.

I know. I go baptized two more times, because I did not believe the first one was valid. The Apostles taught no such thing as “believers baptism” as it is known among modern american evangelicals today.

Anyone who is baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is a Christian. As Catholics, "We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins…, so, I say yes.

My friend is Southern baptist, and she told me her family, and church believes that Catholicism is a cult and we are going to hell. I dont know if her church per say taught this… But where else would she learn it from? We were only like 14.
This is also what I was taught in the Southern Baptist church.

The SDA can trace their origin to a century before the reconstructionist movement, going back to Millerism in the 1800’s. The Millerites fragmented into three groups in 1844 when William Miller’s prediction of the end of the world proved false. By the 1860’s, one of those groups had become the Seventh-day Adventists.

But if you are sure that you are saved, it is certainly possible to sin and go to heaven.
This is great news! As long as I am fully pursuaded that I am among the elect, I have no need to worry that my sins will keep me from heaven. WHEEEE!!!

And with that you can practically tear half of the Bible away. 🙂

Gracious! I hope you reported those posts. NC religions is for the exploration of differences in belief. Differences should be highly tolerated here. I dont’ even think it is appropriate to tell someone they are wrong. We might say that about a certain idea or doctrine, but telling it to a person is another matter. No one can judge the heart of another.
