I saw this website about a religious order of nuns and I really like their music CDs. daughtersofmary.net/daughtersofmary.php However, I am not sure if they are schismatic or not. They only offer the TLM, but that is not necessarily schismatic, after all I attend an FSSP parish. But does anyone know if they recognize the Pope? Are they more like FSSP, or more like the schismatic groups, or somewhere in the middle like SSPX?

If they are schismatic, would you say it is wrong to purchase one of their CDs?

They apparently belong to the Society of St Pius V… (not St Pius X). I’m not sure what this society is.

On a similar note… before, I wanted to buy something from here: sistersofcarmel.com/about-sisters-of-carmel.php but are they schismatic, and if so, would that be wrong? the problem is, some of the things I’m looking for are only available on traditional Catholic websites.

thank you 🙂

The SSPV (Society of St Pius V) is part of the 11 priest who were separated from the SSPX when Archbishop Lefevbre accepted the 1960 liturgy in 1983. These priests later separated among themselves, one of the groups is the SSPV.

The Daughters of Mary is their female association.

They are not in communion with the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church

There was a thread [thread=177728]here[/thread] a while back about this group. If you haven’t already seen it, it might be worth a look.
Just checked the thread - now I’m confused about groups I previously didn’t know existed.

Therefore, this guy will AVOID. It ain’t worth it, I’m thinking.

Why would you not buy a CD from them? Would you think twice about a “pop” music CD from one of the current Hollywood types if you enjoyed their misic?

I have purchased several of their CD’s. They have beautiful voices. But I don’t associate with their group. As previously stated, they are schismatic.

I have even listened to them sing Compline at night on the WFTS Internet radio. Beautiful! I just don’t go any further with it.
Cheers

Buying a CD from the helps fund the group. If they have funds and they have customers, they will continue to operate and probably believe they have sympathizers to their cause. Its better to not feed that dilusion so that they will repent and return to the Church. Even though if their songs are beautiful and that their lyrics are theologically correct, I think its better we support those who are loyal to the Church so that they are the ones who continue what they do.

Just my 2 cents.

Wrong again, they are not schismatic. Everything the local bishop stated years ago has been proven wrong. I go to that church and I have seen the documents to prove they are with Rome. People on this forum have no problem giving advice that only a Priest should give nor do they have a problem bad mouthing a group that they no nothing about and if you state one thing against Rome or any other Catholic church then the Mods feel the need to give you a warning. So if you don’t live in the area and have no desire to go to their Church then leave them alone and mind your own business.

I looked through their website and it looks like they’re sedevacantist. 😦
If not, they at least seem to reject the OF.

The Daughters of Mary definitely are. They even link to a SSPV website. SSPV are sedevacantists.

Wow what is up with the attitude? From our understanding they are not in communion with the local Bishop hence not making them in communion with Rome.

The attitude is because of all the comments about them for over five years without knowing the truth. You can find the article that the bishop wrote in the paper but not a retraction because he did not make it publicly. If you pressure him for an answer he will tell you that yes they are in communion with Rome. Everyone here finds that one article and becomes an expert on a group they know nothing about but I’ve been there with them from 1977 until now.

Are you still talking about the Daughters of Mary or have you gone off-topic? Their own website links to the SSPV. That’s all I need to know. 😦

If in doubt…don’t.

Yes they are so what about it.
Well sounds to me like the order is still seperate from Rome. If this is an issue one should write to the Bishop and advise that he needs to let publicly know the oder is not schismatic. I looked at the diocesi website and could not find them listed there.

The Most Holy Family group and the Traditional Carmel down in the Springs are definitely not in union with Rome. And the argument that the Bishop is hostile to the TLM is patently false; he set up a FSSP Parish down there to counter-act the schismatics.

cosfssp.org/contacts.php

Not withstanding actual documents to the contrary, they are schismatics. I pray for their re-union.

In re the Servants of the Holy Family and the Sisters Of Carmel, it’s very interesting that, on their own websites, the details of their founding are scant at best. Nowhere on either website does it say with whom they are communion, nor does there seem to be one word about canonical status.

A question that comes to mind is: why? When one compares other recently established groups (e.g. the Wyoming Carmelites which is quite up-front about its origins and canonical status) it makes one wonder if something is being hidden.

A Catholic organization which is in full communion with the Church easily can be find starting with the diocesan page or through the local parish.

As an example the Wyoming Carmelites above are referenced at
