This is were eternal marriage comes from

The hieros gamos (sacred marriage) was celebrated in Hera’s honor.

SPIRITUAL MYTH
For Hera marriage is a spiritual event which is only the beginning of her lifelong goal. She gets married in church or temple, not in Las Vegas or by the Justice of the Peace. It is consecration, dedication, and consummation – a eucharistic act.

The main spiritual content of Hera reveolves around the hieros gamos, or sacred marriage. On a personal level this means the reuniting of spirit, soul and body. It indicates a full knowledge of both the heights (Zeus) and depths (Hera) of one’s character. When the hieros gamos is consummated in our daily lives, it means that we have learned to apply our insights in practice – to move from concept to experience.

C’mon. This sounds like what anti-Catholics tout about Isis/Osiris & Mary.

Yes I confess I have failed to do a detailed study as to whither one person’s ideas are close enough to LDS beliefs that would personally consider them to be apostate or not.
Hello Game Player. Please give a detailed rendition of your beliefs. Your sources etc. All you are doing is arguing for arguments sake. Why are you here? It is certainly not for an honest interchange of beliefs. You have no understanding of the Catholic Faith and it seems very little of LDS.

True, but the Mormon belief that men become gods and get their own planets to populate with spirit babies after they die their earthly death, lends itself to the comparisons.

A lot of good, sincere, intelligent people take Mormonism seriously. I would rather operate from a platform of respect, even if our interlocutors sometimes disrespect us. (OK, don’t go back through all my posts and pick out the one’s where I should have taken my own advice! :o ).

A Professor Joshua Seixas was hired by Joseph Smith and his associates to leach them Hebrew

During Joseph’s final years in Nauvoo, however, his connection with Kabbalah becomes more concrete. In the spring of 1841 there apparently arrived in Nauvoo an extraordinary library of Kabbalistic writings

One year later, in 1616, a third and final Rosicrucian document appeared, The Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosencreutz. Cast in the form of a long allegory in alchemical symbolism, it bid the wise of Europe approach a sacred royal marriage,

Can any of this gobbledy-gook be connected with the Second Great Awakening? Or was it just a sub-stream that includes Mormonism, Darbyism, Russellism . . . It looks like half the Northeast was religiously NUTS from the 1790s until throughout much of the 19th century.

Right. I forgot about them. Maybe “nuts” is too medical a word. Hmmm. Let’s see. Sensationalistic? Thrill-seeking?
The Seeker Movement
Seekerism existed at the radical end of the Reformation spectrum. Scholars have generally emphasized “the primitive gospel movement” in ante-bellum America, but diverse versions of Christian primitivism already existed in post-Reformation Europe and in England after Henry VIII severed the English churches from the papacy. Justification for reform was usually couched in Primitivistic rhetoric, accusing the Roman church of corrupting the pure gospel, for example. Thus Seekerism–whether in Europe, England, or America–existed within a larger primitive gospel movement.

Although the Primitivist movement began in Europe and England, it flourished in the freer environment of post-Revolutionary America.

At first widely scattered, by 1850 the American Primitivists had produced two sects with significant followings: the Disciples of Christ and the Mormons.4 However, these two groups shared competing approaches to the problem of the perceived apostasy from primitive Christianity.

No I understand the LDS beliefs rather well and if the people here did I would not have joined.

I know some about the catholic faith I don’t believe that I ever claimed to be an expert.

What game are you playing?

No games here. So are you trying to convert, or enlighten?

St. Ignatius contradicts LDS belief. He taught of the eternally-begotten Son:

“We have also as a Physician the Lord our God, Jesus the Christ, the** only-begotten Son and Word, before time began**, but who afterwards became also man, of Mary the virgin.” *Ignatius of Antioch, To the Ephesians, 7 (A.D. 110).

*Is he an apostate?
Christ is the only begotten Son in the flesh we teach that often. The detail of the after words statement is rather small to dive into.

Are we going to play 101 quotes to see what it is that Teancum does not like?

I sticking up for the truth and trying to learn a bit as I go along.

You?
From what I understand of history Joseph Smith was a charlatan and a shaddy character. Before he started Mormonism he was involved in all sorts of money making schemes. He participated in the begining aspects of freemasonary. Then when he came up with his religion and story about meeting the angel Morony(however you spell it) he confused the urim and thumim as a crystal that made some sort of glasses to read the book or Mormon on Gold tablets. These stones were most likely black and white and used to determin Gods direction closer to flipping a coin. He changed his story on multiple occasions and was thrown out of many towns. What should be conserning about Mormonism is how close it is to Islam in founding. I find it difficult that you stand for truth with a faith that openly claims to have
“another Testament of Jesus Christ” Anti-Christ understood by the greek would be “another” Christ instead of against. A christ replacement. Mormonism presents another christ. Not to mention archeologist have not substantiated the historical claims the book of Mormon makes about the lost tribe of Isreal or great civilization in the americas. Finally, when reading the book of mormon I’ve never received a “burning in my busom”. Mormonism is Americana religion all the way. Nothing historical or factual. It’s a shame many good people miss out on the real Jesus in this religion.😦

I’m not interested in whether you like it or not. I’m interested in how you can believe in an “apostasy” that has no clear date on which it occurred, especially in light of the fact that even the earliest records from the disciples of John the Apostle themselves contradict Joseph Smith’s teachings. How can you say an apostasy occurred, when even men learning directly at the feet of the Apostles are in harmony with Catholic teaching, and in disharmony with Mormon beliefs?

can we consider the followers of other religions other than catholicism to be followers of a false God?

for example: Protestants, which follows ML, Wesley, Calvin, all these men came up with their own interpretation of SS.
how about Henry VIII? Joseph Smith, hinduism, muslims, and others?
“Who am i that the Mother of God should come to me.” *
