Is this Catholic apologetic DVD ok to give to my Mom for Christmas?

He’s talking about the Buenos Aires Eucharistic miracle but one or both the books also discuss Lanciano and other miracles.

Hope, the long short of it is that you cannot trust just any source. If you really desire to know about Eucharist Miracles find media from one of the publishers or sources I listed.

The Catholic church doesn’t ask much of us. It has asked we do not follow unapproved devotions.

Purchasing and materially sponsoring a source that is going against a basic rule of the Church is not right.

Apparently there are three separate instances, each two years apart where Eucharistic miracles occurred at this particular church, unless I’m misunderstanding it. It was the third that Pope Francis wanted investigated, before he was elected Pope.

What about the 100s of Eucharistic miracles displayed in the Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibition? We had the exhibit at our church and another nearby. Are those miracles genuine?

Those appear to be approved. CAF has put their stamp of approval on this site. They are the ones who run the exhibition. I cannot speak to their materials but it appears they do have some listed

http://www.therealpresence.org/eucharst/book/a10.html

Out of the sources they have listed when it comes to DVD’s, personally, I would only trust Ignatius Press as they have worked extremely hard to ensure that they follow Church teaching. I suppose I’d also view the video from the Vancouver Shroud Association as they are also working hard to ensure they fall within the bounds of the church. The other publishers are too small for me to accurately comment on and also small enough to have bias and influence that may not be entirely wholesome.

Therealpresence.org is the site that lists the Buenos Aires Miracles.
Yes, Hope, I GET that.

However, just because a miracle has been approved doesn’t mean that everything produced about that miracle is a legitimate source.

In fact, because it is so recent extra caution must be taken to seek out only good sources.

The intial link is NOT a good source.

Do you believe in approved Eucharistic Miracles?

Do I believe they happened? Yes.

Do I believe that they need special attention? Maybe.

Do I believe all that report on ones do so with good intentions? Absolutely not.

For the most part, I am incredibly careful to follow only what the church teaches and I do not believe that private devotions and approved miracles are linchpins of our faith.

People who go beyond the Church’s boundaries to create materials about miracles are in the wrong. No ifs, and or but. We also have a duty to ensure that we get material from only genuine sources.

Promogating and encouraging the use of non-approved sources is, quite frankly, sinful. The Church HAS given us many wonderful paths to understanding the approved miracles. There are MANY valid publishers. Going to an illicit source doesn’t void the miracle, but it opens one to false conclusions and false notions of the who/what/why/where/when and can draw one into errant beliefs to different conclusions.

The DVDs i mentioned in my opening post interview scientists who have actually examined the host. These are credible scientists (as far as I know). Its not like its some guy working out of his basement cobbling together a DVD on Eucharistic miracles.

That doesn’t really matter if they are “credible scientists” or not their work predates the OK of the church, as far as I can see, and is not one of the sources that have been approved for talking about the miracle.

Legitimate sources are great, but one can have great sources and still draw false meanings to an otherwise apparent conclusion.

And let’s be real here, today even some guy working out of his basement can get interviews with scientists and produce high-quality visuals depending on background. I mean, heck, we have youtubers who are former major motion picture special affects guys who have made videos of their toddler flying about the room

But didn’t the Church approve the miracle?
Hope–the church’s approval of the miracle DOES NOT mean that everyone who writes or produces media on it is valid. In fact, this day and age this means we must be highly skeptical as to the SOURCES that we go to. There are MANY, MANY “bad” books on Fatima that give misinformation. There are STILL people publishing works that declare false information about the 3rd secret. We are to avoid those things.

So then what you’re saying is that while the miracle, itself, is approved, we can’t trust the guys who wrote the book and produced the video?
I don’t know if I agree with you or not.

Yes.

This is a self-published item that has not been verified by any legitimate Catholic source. The site is a pay-by-the month website creator and the approvals are about the site and not about the materials produced. The site now, also makes it very clear that they associate with unapproved, sources, and even people who have been told to stop by those in authority. It is very, very wrong. The way the creators of this media go about things do appear to do so without church approval and simply hope it comes later.

Not good.

In principle though, I don’t think there is anything wrong about creating a book or DVD on a yet to be approved miracle.

If the 70,000 crowd in Fatima were to have followed church teaching, they wouldn’t have showed up at Fatima on Oct 13th 1917 to witness the miracle of the sun (as requested to do so my Mary). They would have said “Well, this has yet to be approved so we better not show up to this scheduled miracle”.

I understand there are some dodgy people out there trying to profit on the church which should be avoided (and generally speaking i do this, not a big Medjugorje fan for example), but i’m not convinced the people who made the DVD in my opening post are malicious. That’s why I wanted to know if anyone was familiar with this DVD before I go and buy it.

In the description, they speak about a “mystic” who has been squarely condemned by the church.

Fatima, on the other hand, was under the watchful approval of local bishops.

That’s all one needs to know.

It is unfortunate that you feel the need to go to a source that is clearly tainted. You want a stamp of approval. It isn’t going to happen.

Why do you have such an issue with going through sources that the church has approved?

I don’t have an issue. But it just seems that the guys making this DVD have gone into more detail interviewing more scientists who actually handled the host than the actually approved sources spoken about in this thread. So naturally, i would like a DVD which gives the most detailed info possible, and it just so happens to seem that these guys have gone to the trouble of interviewing alot of people who have first hand scientific experience of having examined the host.

Suuuurrreee. More detailed information from a bad source (by their association with someone who has been discredited) somehow is a good thing…because “science”

Uh.

No.

So if people or priests visit Medjugorje (an unapproved apparition), i should avoid these people as they are “bad sources”?

I’m not a fan of Medjugorje, but my 2 local priests organise visits to there and I still attend those priests’ mass. They seem ok, pro-life, anti-gay marriage. Everything seems above board with them.
