My 58-year-old cousin has cancer all over her body and I’m a Prayer Warrior. I’m on FB, a social media and there are a lot of people that ask for prayer from everyone on FB and we all pray for their intentions. And most of my friends on FB are disabled so Prayer Warriors are praying every day. However, my Aunt doesn’t want me to ask for prayer for my cousin, her child, not even asking for prayer without giving out the name nor the intention on Facebook. My Aunt would be so angry at me if I did this. Plus, I was told there were plenty of people praying for my cousin already. That boggled my mind. Further…They are Catholic.

I respect that but is it right? I woke up thinking I guess I should respect it but still I can’t believe that my Aunt doesn’t want Prayer Warriors to pray for my Cousin. Sighhh.

What should I do?

Your aunt probably just likes her privacy and/or hates social media. It’s understandable.

You can simply ask the prayer group to pray for YOU YOURSELF and YOUR own intentions, without mentioning what they are. Your own intentions would include prayers for helping yourself and for helping and providing you peace of mind about all you hold dear, which would include all your family.

Your aunt cannot force you to not ask for prayers for your own self and your own personal intentions, assuming you do not mention her or your cousin or anything other than, "Please pray for RandiRhoades and RandiRhoades’ own personal intentions. "

I would also suggest that if possible you make your posts private to the group you’re posting in, or use a closed group, so your aunt doesn’t see them and start asking you what did you pray for.

Another option is to request prayers on a site like prayersunitetheworld.com where no one can see your intentions.

Privacy is important to many people. I work for a parish, and before we print anyone’s name in the bulletin “prayer list”, we make it clear that the bulletin goes on the internet. Some people decide they do not want to be listed.

For those who are printed, you would be shocked how many people call the office and ask “what is wrong with person X? Why are they on the prayer list?” Of course, we do not tell people the reason, but, it makes one remember how important it is to respect the privacy of others.

You could always ask for prayer for a “special intention”.

Some people are very private and don’t want to draw attention to themselves, and that’s okay 🙂

I can understand your aunt wants privacy,so I would respect your wishes. But, you could ask your group to pray for you and not mention what is going on.

@randirhoades

Here on the CAF prayer forum, participants post prayer requests and other members post prayerful responses. Post your request as: Pray for (initials) who has cancer. Your aunt will have no reason to be upset. There is no distance in prayer. 😃

God bless you.

Prayer to St. Anthony of Padua
For Those With Cancer

Dear St. Anthony,
You recognized Our Lord Jesus as the Divine Healer.
Great Wonder Worker, in your kindness, please intercede
for @randirhoades’ cousin, who has metastatic cancer.

Please pray that God will grant her: the gift of healing;
comfort during times of unbearable pain; peace and
patience in suffering; the fullness of life here on earth;
and a home in eternal glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen. ✞

I’ll add your cousin as well as your aunt and yourself to my prayer intentions. In Jesus’ Name I pray for Randi, her aunt and her cousin. Holy Mary, St. Joseph, St. Peregrine and St. Padre Pio, please intercede. Amen.

As others have said, some people like their privacy.

I for one wouldn’t want my information, even without my name, posted for all to see. My friends, family and Church can pray for me.

Thy will be done.

I also will be praying for your cousin

I have respected her my Aunt E.wishes and if I could I would be on my knees praying. So, I sit and pray. But no matter what position you’re in, God hears you. I just thought with as many Prayer Warriors on my page on FB, it would help. Plus, saying that there are enough people praying for my cousin boggled my mind. My thinking is that Prayer is part of the Christian life, especially for those that are sick. I also don’t think there are never “enough people praying”. OH, how sweet you are to be praying for Diane here. That is awesome and thank you so much! Made me want to weep because of your kindness.

Moreover, I understand privacy that is why I haven’t posted anything but it’s different on my FB. My friends call out for Prayer Warriors to come to their aid for whatever and unnamed intentions and for my Aunt E.to get angry at me for doing a spiritual and considered loving act pertaining to God just, well…got me. Yet, to reiterate, I understand privacy.

PO18Guy, My other Aunt M. told me not to do it because Aunt E already said something about it. And my other Aunt M has cancer also and didn’t mind that I asked for prayer on FB. She said she needed all the prayers she could get. Plus, I honestly do not think that Diane, who has cancer, would mind but I can’t talk to her because I don’t know what hospital she’s in due to her being in a different town which is 79 miles away from me and her Mother not letting the family know. And I was told she’s able to converse and I know she’d be glad to see me. But, I can’t go visit her because of my Aunt E.

Well, I guess my family knows me about asking for prayer everywhere. I believe in God, my Roman Catholic Church, and healing. That’s why I do it. Plus, Jesus said, “Two or more gathered in His name, He’s in our midst” and “If you deny Me before men, I will also deny you in front of my Father in the Heavens”.

On a personal note, I think to ask for prayer is not a bad thing even on FB but I respect people’s wishes. I may not like it but I respect it.

Cool Breezes and Blessings abundantly to all of you.

Well, I think this thread is a fine demonstration of the prayer warriors here on CAF! I’ve posted prayer requests here before with great responses. What’s more is that you can keep her anonymous, (God will know who we’re all talking about - that’s what matters), and avoid the awkwardness of your prayer request turning into someone else’s gossip.

I will pray for your cousin, as well.

No, it isn’t different. Privacy is privacy.

Yes, there is good in praying. But not everyone wants their intentions aired on Face book.

I was talking about how many contacts I have that are disabled and should have clarified this. All are always asking for prayers. I’m sorry. Plus, more than anything people post images, graphics and pictures of God, Jesus and talk about their faith, quote scripture more than ever on FB and I’ve been on FB for years. I’ve even thought of it being a movement. 😉 I guess because they say with the world the way it is now we need God in our lives and there are more Christians on my FB than not.

I understand privacy. And what you’re saying. Even here I’ve friends that don’t want to post prayer requests because of privacy and will message me privately to pray for them. Not that I’m a saint or anyone similar.

I just don’t understand why people don’t want prayer when they are sick or someone they love is sick no matter where it is. There will be gossip no matter where it is also. Even here. I’ve heard it. Anyway…IMO…This is not a time to be worried about that and be silent when Jesus tells us to pray without ceasing. Especially for the dying.

Further, let God take care of the gossip mongers. I believe when praying which is talking to God, not even Satan can touch us.

Again, I will respect people’s wishes as I do with everyone even if I don’t like it and I’ll pray for my Cousin and go to all my Catholic sites and ask for prayer for Diane there.

Thank you so much for being kind in your responses to my question.

Blessings and Cool Breezes
