I’m Catholic and my girlfriend is Wiccan. We sometimes talk about our faiths, but I’m wondering if we’re doing it the wrong way?
For example, we were discussing on Pandora (a music site) our different deities one day. I said I believed in one God, she said she believed in multiple gods. I asked her why she believed in many gods and she said the gods were the elements. Than she asked me why I believed in only one God and I said that it made sense that there was only one God, becuase He is entirely Himself, so there is no need for any other god. I asked her if electricity was a god (since she has a thunder god) and she said no, but the god controlled electricity. She asked me if God was a part of the Universe, and I said He was not, the Universe was a creation and He was its Creator, and I think I made a comment on pantheism. Than I retracted my comment on pantheism, because I thought it had offended her, but she said it was okay, she wasn’t offended. After that we talked about heaven, and she said everyone goes to heaven and lives there in eternal bliss. I said Catholics teach a similar doctrine, in that heaven is eternal happiness and those who do God’s Will go to Heaven to join Him. I think she asked me about hell, why God sent people to hell, and I said God sent no one to hell, He wills everyone to be saved, but those who distance themselves from God go to hell because that’s what hell is: an eternal state of separation from God. Than she had to go, and we said goodbye to each other.
