When Confessing sins, is it OK to pretend that Jesus is on the other side of the screen? If I do this, I feel like I will be less likely to not mention a sin out of nervousness.

Thanks!

I’m sure He is supposed to look deep in thought but He also kinda looks like He’s napping! 😂

In fact, Eastern Christians (both Orthodox and Catholic) generally confess before an icon of Christ, addressing him, with the priest off to the side . ,. ,.

Bear in mind that the priest, in the manner of Christ, takes your forgiven sin unto himself and does penance for them. Turns out that sin is more than just personal.

I have felt this about my regular confessor even outside of the confessional. Sometimes when he’s speaking during the homily, if my eyes were closed, I could swear it was Christ himself speaking. Or at other points in the mass. I get emotional. Is this common? I know this is one special priest.

I myself and many people I know sometimes like to close their eyes and use their imagination during “this is body, take it, all of you, and eat of it…”

Yes, this shows a deeper theological grasp of the Sacrament of Penance.
The Eastern manner of confessing to an icon of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ while the priest stands at your side is beautiful.
A sinner I remain,
Deacon Christopher

Heck yeah that’s ok to do! I never though about that so thank you for the idea!
