So people who don’t go like in this case go to hell? It says to sanctify the holy days! Going to church is one way of sanctifying them but not the only way.
If it is a mortal sin for them and they don’t repent of it, YES. The second part is irrelevant.
If one doesn’t go to mass on Christmas but spends it at home with his family, etc he is committing a deadly sin and shall go to hell if a lightning bolt strikes him down when he’s out in the balcony smoking a cigarette?
If it is a mortal sin for them and they don’t repent of it, YES.
Come on. Its worse than protestant fanaticism of the sorts: “Christ will come back soon, and we will be raptured and his kingdom will be of 1000years!!!”. And uncharitable to say the least.
Charity is truth. I am only telling you what the Catholic Church teaches. I am not saying that this person is in hell. I have already made that clear in my other postings. The real answer is that we do not know one way or the other. But we do know, objectively speaking, what happens to those that die in a state of mortal sin.

Sorry, but it is what it is.

Don’t know where you got the skipping mass is a sin from.
Hi,

Here let me help you out with this so my conscience can be at ease. Emphasis mine.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

#2180
The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely:** “On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass.” **“The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of the preceding day.”
This paragraph is actually quoting from the Code of Canon Law.

#2181
The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.

From the Code of Canon Law

Canon 1247
On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to particpate in the Mass; they are also to abstain from those labors and business concerns which impede the worship to be rendered to God, the joy which is proper to the Lord’s Day, or the proper relaxation of mind and body.

God bless.

Fine if the pastor says you are dispensed from going no problem! Bribe him and no problem just like with the indulgences before Luther’s reform where the rich paid for the forgiveness of the sins they didn’t commit but were going to in the future in advance and had different prices for different sins the more you intended to sin the more you had to pay or those who were richer could sin more and the more the church got rich!! The poor? Well tough luck! Others paid and were given a certificate which reduced their amount of time in Purgatory! Aint that grand?

That’s just incredible. Fine one has a serious illness, gets an MD to sign that he’s ill and that’s it?!

Its man made teachings no more no less. If people don’t go to mass one thing happens for sure. The church shuts down. So of course its an obligation…Even if no one wants to become a priest will the church shut down. And then they will introduce priest marriage someday or another to boost vocations.

Someone who cares for his family and his infants can skip.

Man its worse than when people thought they were going to hell for eating pork!

So this guy is going to hell for skipping mass? Man the priests are like vegas they win even when they lose. Losing for a priest means losing it like in the various scandals. Somehow they and the rich always get a backdoor into heaven but the guy who skips mass f that he’s in hell enduring all torment! How’s that??

That’s just insane. No I don’t believe the church teachings in this particular episode if it means that this guy goes to hell for skipping mass! If it were really like this God should be ashamed of Himself. In hell with rapers, murderers etc who don’t repent; of course cos if they do it its heaven for them, hell for skipping mass and not repenting cos maybe he had a tooth ache or couldn’t be bothered to go just that one time? LOL

This is serious. It aint monday night football. Folks. It aint a competition about I’m wrong you’re right nor like any other forum chitchat.
  1. man dies
  2. soul leaves the universe
  3. judgment
  4. new body and soul goes in the new body - The virgin Mary is there in bodily form its dogma…everyone gets another body afterwards a glorified one. That’s what happens.
  5. That man is still a man even though he doesn’t have a sexual organ cos everyone’s like angels and have no sex goes to hell. And hence because he has a body he feels pain etc for eternity.
All this because he skipped mass once? And because the church says that? When murderers or rapists and even pedophiles don’t go to hell if they repent 1second before they die? For real? A faithful man, a good christian 24/7 in everyday life goes to hell cos he skipped mass?

where’s justice? where’s God in all this I don’t see him. The God you’re depicting doesn’t give hope but despair! It aint the Christian God that’s for sure. This one’s allah a selfish bastard who decides arbitrarily without any form of justice nor mercy who goes to heaven and who goes to hell based on a caprice.

Lets get real murderers repent and don’t go to hell, if you skip mass once and you die you don’t repent for not going to mass. Maybe you had a problem at work and had to go to work the day after and decided not to go to mass cos the problem at work was killin ya and couldn’t take your thoughts away from it? Dunno maybe in times of financial crises its difficult to run a company and take a decision to fire half of the working force? Or that he was fired or was goin to be probably, or the company was in dire straits and next to closing? Or whatever? Hence didn’t feel like going cos he was ill sick thinking about work or other mundane problems which make you sick.

Hence in hell? F that. Worse than Bin Laden. And completely out of the world. Not omniscient cos evidently he doesn’t know what work and everything else is in this world! He doesn’t know the burden of caring for a family, having mortal problems which consume you. That’s the God some of you are depicting.

I’ll put it straight out to ya. The real truth the one that hurts.

People go to mass for 1 of 2 reasons same as me. The rest is hypocrisy.
  1. cos the church teaches it is an obligation and otherwise you go to hell according to what I’ve read if you don’t. Anyway a form of coercion. Didn’t know about this one.
  2. to pray and ask for God’s help when you need it the most cos you can’t deal with the problems alone.
That’s why. Otherwise you stay home. And of course go to hell if you die afterwards.
Then there’s those who go cos they want to go. Those are the best. The real ones.

Guys the church was teaching cos the old testament said it and not God, that the universe was geocentric and was wrong and Galileo right. Then it woke up to the evidence and said whoa the sun’s in the middle of our galaxy and the earth spins round it lets change the teachings!! And eating pork was considered a mortal sin by the then church which was the synagogue until a certain Man came and said it was nonsense, the same thing with circumcision and many other practices…

guys do you know what the words: the sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath means? Its a Man called Christ who said them…I guess the Man was God.

guys do you know what the words: the sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath means? Its a Man called Christ who said them…I guess the Man was God.
If you don’t: the sabbath was made to help man live better and rest and not work 24/7. Man wasn’t made to be forced to observe the sabbath always and everytime.

Apparently in those days one had to go to the synagogue and not cure/heal people during the sabbath. Neither care for others in any shape or form. Sounds just like church teach of today to me. I’m wrong though. Misinterpretation. Guy goes to hell. Its mortal sin. Just like eating pork.🤷

Its mortal sin. Just like eating pork.🤷
Actually eating pork is not a sin. I don’t know where you got this one.

Oh and I have read your other post. I actually need to get to a few other posts, but I will respond to it when I get the time. Life is so hectic somtimes. I gotta go into town today, so hopefully I can reply back tomorrow or even Monday.

God bless.

This is one of the most common logical fallacies that a person can present. So you are saying that if we cannot absolutely prove that God exists (and Benidict XVI made that statement) then God cannot exist?

Your statement affirms that if we cannot say that someone is going to hell then the person will not go to hell. The Church also stated that we are not to know who is going to hell, and so from your axiom we must follow with the conclusion that nobody goes to hell. If nobody goes to hell then we have universal salvation and the Church is wrong and Jesus lied to us. This is not what Catholics believe.
Cristiano:

I suffered a lot for this problem because it is a theological dead-end and i do not you to suffer the same.

See your contradictions:

if “The Church also stated that we are not to know who is going to hell”, why are you worried if someone goes to hell? It is none of your business, it is up to God to decide.

“If nobody goes to hell then we have universal salvation”, and what is the problem?

“the Church is wrong and Jesus lied to us.” How come? Jesus never said that there was anybody in hell ! In an apparition to St. Theresa of Avila, where He showed Her Her Place in Hell if she was not loyal to Him, Jesus said: “I am not going to say who is in Hell, nor even if Judas is in Hell” Of course in the apparitions of Fatima (I live 25 km away from Fatima and yesterday went there walking) the 3 children said there were human persons in hell. But that is not dogma. Anyhow, it does not matter for being or not being people there does not make ME to go there.

Answering your question: “So you are saying that if we cannot absolutely prove that God exists (and Benidict XVI made that statement) then God cannot exist?”, I would say that the question is too complicated to be answered in one sentence. What is “prove” ? Scientifically, forget about it. But rationally, it is absolutely evident (for me!) that God exists. But for my friend Morgado, a physicist, it is absolutely evident that God does not exist. What the Pope wanted to say is that the existence of God does not depend of your belief as the existence of the Sun does not depend whether you believe or not that the Sun exists.

In short: of course I was playing with words, but what I intended to say is, if it is God’s business my destiny, why am I worrying IF I go to Heaven or to Hell?

Heaven and Hell are not places. Heaven if to be with God. He is Heaven. Hell is to be away from Him.

Let’s Love Him with all our heart and all our mind and be brothers to each other…

Cherss,🙂

RE:

First of all if this person has missed mass and continues to receive holy communion, he is committing a sacreligious act; therefore, when he approaches the altar for communion, in essence, he is not receiving anything because of his condition of his soul.

If he dies in a car accident and has time, he can say: Jesus, be merciful to me a sinner.

Only God can judge the soul–we can give our opinions, but in the end, God will judge this person as He sees fit.

It is not right for us to judge a person and indicate where he is going; God will take care of that.

Jesus, be merciful to me a sinner or Jesus save me.

Leave the judgment to God who can only read out hearts.
