Is trying/ wanting to see your guardian angel and talk with them a sin?

Talking to him during prayer (asking him to intercede for you before God or to protect you) no, it isn’t.

If it implies some kind of New Age/Spiritist/Astrological ritual or practice then yes, it’s a sin.

As AlbMagno intimated: to talk with them? They constantly pray for us, but we do not enter into a dialog with them. Anyone who says we do is probably dabbling in the demonic.

Bad idea. Simply ask for your guardian angel’s intercession. They hear you.

Not necessarily true on the demonic. There have been many saints who have conversed with their own and others guardian angels. I have a book about the angels but I can’t remember the name that talks about it. I’ll look up the title when I have time.

I forget about my guardian angel a lot, just doesn’t occur to me. I feel bad about it

When I was much younger, we used to sing a hymn to our guardian angels, starting “Dear angel ever at my side.” I don’t know if it’s in modern hymn books.

I talk to my guardian angel all day. God knows I’d like to see angels and everything else but he isn’t letting it happen just yet. “Blessed is he who has not seen, but still believes.”

There’s an official prayer to Guardian Angels for a reason.

I wouldn’t worry about trying to see your angel, I think that’s a grace if given it is a rare and a lovely thing but definitely not something to ‘try’ for (otherwise it could lead to spiritual pride or worse), rather be grateful for what you are given and open to what God offers you and if you see angels then be grateful and humble. But yes definitely pray to your guardian angel and ask his intercession and you can also offer communion for him and thank him for his help.

I used to imagine having a conversation with mine. Not a good idea. In prayer, I will talk to mine and ask her to pray for me. It is comforting to know you have someone watching over you, always praying for you, to protect you, and guide you.

St. Gemma Galgani

Angels - Brief Passages on the Saints and Their Angel’s Assistance - St. Mary Frances of the Five Wounds, The Angel of St. Rose of Lima, St Philip Neri, St Martin de Porres and many others who were physically assisted by their angels.

I also think of St Faustina and her relationship with her guardian angel.

I do talk to mine - I ask him/her to remind me to pray or not to forget various things, I thank my angel for keeping me safe, for guarding me and for guiding me, as I say in this prayer:-

Angel of God my guardian dear, to whom God’s light commit me here, ever this day be at my side to light, to guard, to rule, to guide. Amen. (Bold and italics are mine.)

But, those are the select few who receive such immense graces. You and I?

Not so much.

As well, it must be initiated by God, not by the faithful.

Another traditional Guardian Angel prayer is the 7 Glory Be’s first thing in the morning.
