Is twerking a mortal sin?

Twerking has long been a part of black culture. It’s only been in recent years that mainstream media began to acknowledge and accept it. The origins of twerking can be traced to Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa, where a similar style of dance, known as the Mapouka dance, was originated.
I don’t know if it is considered sexually suggestive in African culture but it sure is here in the US…if you did it in your own home just to see what it was like I wouldn’t worry…I remember when rock and roll came out…some people were in horror because “Elvis the Pelvis” swivelled his hips…

It is difficult for any kind of performance art to rise to the level of mortal sexual sin, unless you are going at it to the extent of deliberately causing masturbation in yourself or others, or actually having sex.

(And if you’re a teenager or easily set off physiologically, you could be doing nothing and get set off in the first way. Hormones, sheesh.)

OTOH, venial sin should also be avoided. And there’s no reason why you can’t dance athletically and rhythmically, while also acting virtuously and with self-control. Respect yourself, others, and God while you dance, and you will have artistic and moral integrity. If you don’t respect yourself or God, you will have trouble with keeping proper boundaries, both in art and life.

So have fun, but just don’t form bad habits in yourself or others. It’s not supposed to be rocket science, even though it may be harder in today’s society.

FINE however, I don’t buy that in any sense of attempting to justify TWERKING.

Back in the days I’ve shaken my butt to some degree… at black parties… with black gals in the same manner in which it went down … however, that may in some minds resemble - but it is NOT what constitutes what’s been said re: TWERKING of Today…

And playing the Elvis and his “Hips” card - don’t cut the mustard either
as far as using him as a model for Christianity - even if he sung “gospel” tunes at times…

And face it, Pagan if they be cultural activities - do not necessarily meld with Jesus…

Therefore - just because something existed with say Africa - does not auto-make it Kosher.

Even acceptable ceremonial Liturgical dancing say amongst Samoans and Ethiopians
is OK - however - It’s OK within Their Cultures and not within most others wrt Catholic Liturgy… Even areas of bare-breasted in Africa - fine in their tribal locales - but not for the purpose they are employed publicly in most other cultures… I’ve spent over a year in Africa.

At any rate - all the above drifts from what is the problem essence of Today’s TWERKING

Those examples have absolutely NOTHING like what’s going down today… wrt Twerking
