Is UK PM trying to distract Catholics after 'gay marriage' fiasco?

Distraction technique? Another British Prime Minister offers up changes to anti-Catholic Act of Settlement/royal succession after alarming Catholics in another policy area. This time it is David Cameron proposing that Catholics should continue to be debarred from becoming king of queen, but that anyone who marries a Catholic should no longer be debarred. It comes after the recent controversial same-sex ‘marriage’ consultation announcement.

Well overdue!

Even if it was a distraction, an appeasement, who would he be baiting decades after any of that would remotely matter?

I doubt it. I think polls show that the UK people generally support gay marriage, don’t they?

I could be wrong-I’m no expert in what the people across the Atlantic think!

If they repeal the Act of Settlement, they may as well send the crown jewels to the Duke of Bavaria. Long live the King Over the Water!

To be honest he has been talking about this since before the Royal Wedding. David Cameron has previously spoken against the Act of Settlement and it is being proposed that the spouse of a monarch can be of any practicing religion (as it essentially is now, as long as they are not Catholic) as long as the monarch is a practicing Anglican.

But the problem is that not just the UK has to agree to any changed to the Act: all of the realms of which the Queen is monarch must also agree. So Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. would all have to agree to any changes before they could be implemented.
