Doing the Novena chaplet. My eldest son Gabriel will be recieving the lord in the blessed sacrament that day. When my daughter recieved the Eucharist for her first communion it was Divine Mercy Sunday. I believe that First COmmunion is a tradition for mercy sunday in my parish. No special plans though for the devotion. A czech parish 60 miles away is having an divine mercy sunday blowout extravaganza with all the bells and whistles. They are blessed with such a wonderful irish priest. He is the beacon for us Trads in the whole diocese.

I’m glad I saw Tim’s post, as I just went to confession again right before Easter. Not that I wouldn’t go again if they offered it, but it will only be 12 days since I’ve gone by Divine Mercy Sunday.

Our parish BTW is having a 3:00 Adoration and Service.(this I believe, is the first time we have had any celebration for Divine Mercy. I don’t believe we are having mass, but we definitely I am sure will be saying the novena. (Being Sunday, everyone all of our parishioners will have already gone to mass either on Saturday evening or Sunday morning…besides that we are short of priests at the moment, so I doubt if we will have a priest available for a 3:00 mass) I am very excited about it however, as I don’t remember our former Pastor ever even mentioning it. It seems to me that our parish in some ways is going in a very good direction!!

Blessedstar,

I will keep you and your parish in my prayers at our Divine Mercy Adoration.

We have some sort of celebration at 3pm but I’m not sure of the details and it’s my first year at this parish. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful! Our bulletin a few weeks ago even reminded everyone to start the Novena on Good Friday.

We welcomed a Faustina into the church at the Easter VIgil. 😃

We’ve been blessed with a wonderful pastor who brought Divine Mercy to our parish when he was assigned 5 years ago. I’m the RCIA coordinator at our parish and our neophytes and newly received started celebrating on Good Friday. We meet this Sunday to celebrate their first Divine Mercy Sunday. Before his pastorate, I was ambivilant toward it, but by God’s grace and MERCY, I too embrace it.

No. I asked our priest and he said he wasn’t familiar with it and didn’t know anything about it. I didn’t have the nerve to ask him how that could possibly be, but the look on my face may have unintentionally revealed my thought.

Are there really priests out there (aside from mine) who are clueless about this??

This will be my 1st Divine Mercy Sunday and I was pleased to see, when I went to Daily Mass this morning, that they already have it set up with a HUGE Divine Mercy image up front in the Church!

I don’t know Elzee, but I know this is the 1st time we are having it. I somehow get that feeling that there are a substantial # of priests who are not real familiar with Divine Mercy.😦

Thank you to all of you who have offered advice and prayer.

I will keep you all in the prayer of my life.

A blessed Divine Mercy Sunday to all.🙂

One of the other churches in our area is having a Divine MERCY … {celebration} I don’t know what to expect… heard talk of guitars, and lots of fun ! Brings to mind the carnivals we used to have behind our chuirch when we were kids. Games of chance, ring toss, etc. I really wanted to go up to Stockbridge this year, my sister lives 20 minutes from the chapel, but other things have come up with DH, so I have to stay local this year. i hope it isn’t too circus-like ! My priest at the new church I go to seemed like he was ready to pull out the clown wig a few weeks ago, he’s one of those ‘find me if you can’ priests!!! Nice man, but needs a lightening bolt to remind him what he’s doing up… uh…over there…🤷

Have a blessed Mercy Sunday !

Ring-toss out in the yard? Heavens to Mergatroid … 😛

I know our celebration will take place very solemnly, and very reverently in the Church. We will have the Divine Mercy image set up at the front, and we will have both the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, along with other prayers. I can’t remember if we have music at this one. It goes on for about an hour, or a little over an hour.

Ohhhhh, jmcrae, I’m sorry to boggle your mind 😃 I guess you had to grow up near Philly, PA to know about the old parish street fairs, they closed the whole street behind our church and we had a grand party !!! Don’t know if anyone does that anymore… to me it’s a nice childhood memory !!👍
Talk about a lovely church… built in 1752 and still has the communion rails!

I am under the impression that we are supposed to go to Confession and receive Holy Communion, pray the Chaplet, and adore the image, all on the same day, in order to gain the graces. I’m not certain if the Novena is also required, as well.
adore the image: is your language correct? You mean venerate, right??

Fraid not 😦

Although I went to confession and Mass at one of our local churches that has confession regularly scheduled for a few hours each Sunday anyways. (Already Sunday here, thanks to time zones etc etc)

There were some leaflets up the back with a bit of information on the Divine Mercy, but no specific mention of the feast nor the Indulgence or special devotions for Divine Mercy Sunday 😦

I know the Cathedral will have their Divine Mercy image out for a few days yet, they did last year. 👍

Ah. Divine Mercy Sunday isn’t a street fair type of event - not like St. Patrick’s Day, etc. It’s done inside the Church, with praying and praising, etc. 😉

Just curious and I don’t know if there is a post already on this but…how many of your parishes are going to be celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday and what you will be doing?

Ours is. We’ll be having the regular Masses and then we will be having a special time for confession (not a penance service, just an hour for confession), then we will have Holy Hour, and after that, Gethsemane Hour with the priests. I hope to make it to everything! 👍
Not my parish here, but my mum’s parish had the divine mercy novena from Good Friday.

jmcrae, I think we are misunderstanding each other here… I am aware of the Divine Mercy devotion being indoors etc. I meant when I saw the bulletin mentioning guitars and stuff at this years DM it came to my mind of the fairs we had when we were kids:o do you know what I mean ? 🙂 I guess it’s one of those “hadda be there” things Sorry for the mix up!

We had a wonderful Divine Mercy service today.

We said the Prayer of Entrustment to the Divine Mercy, then Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Veneration of the Image, The Rosary (Luminous Mysteries), then the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, then the Praises of the Divine Mercy, and finally Divine Praises and Benediction. We ended with St. Faustina’s Prayer for a Merciful Heart.

I really enjoyed it. It was also my first time getting to pray the Rosary with a group, which was really a great experience (expect Father kind of rushed through it, b/c there was a wake for a funeral waiting for us to finish and we were running late.😊 )

But I really enjoyed it. I wish our parish would have something like this every Sunday!

We had a very reverent Feast of Divine Mercy at 3:00 pm today at my parish. It sounds very much like AngelRose’s service. It was the third time my parish has held such a service, and the number of those attending grow each year. We have a wonderful priest from Poland who led us, and I will definitely go again next year.
