Salaam iamrefreshed;
Please be patient, I am gathering the necessary materials for point #2. In order to answer that, I need to dig a little bit into the Jewish customs and tribal traditions of the time frame concerned (around the birth of Jesus).
The Qur’an reported that the people who meet Mary with the Child Jesus as telling her " O! Sister of Aaron…" There ought to be an explanation if the Aaron talked about is indeed Aaron the brother of Moses, and this explanation is to be found in the use of words and the deeply incrusted tribal traditions of the Jewish community of that time.

Working on it.

PS: You quoted me without a reply to the content of the quote; should I understand that you don’t have one?
Salaam.
Joseph.
Hello Joseph. No I am not replying for two reasons. First is that I am just a spectator. Think of me sitting in the audience and yelling, hurry up!🙂

Second, your question is off topic of the original thread. That is how threads get hijacked. If you want to start a new thread with those questions. I am sure you will get responses.😃

Salaam friend RyanL;
As promised, I did a little study on why the Qur’an called Mary “Sister of Aaron”. I have posted the article in WhyIslam.org.
I have reached the conclusion that Joseph of Arimathea and Anna the prophetess could well be the parents of Mary the mother of Jesus (peace be upon him), in other words the grand-parents of Jesus (PBUH), but it’s open to discussion.You can read the full article Here

Joseph_Alison - Of cource you know that we will object to this reply. You stated in your reply on www.whyislam.com:

“A side conclusion is that Mary the mother of Jesus (peace be upon him), through her father, was a Levite also; in the Jewish Law the descendants inherit the tribal lineage of the father not the mother.”

This is because Christ was known as the Messiah which the Jewish scriptures say MUST come from the house of David, that is of the tribe of Judah. Further the geneologies of both Mary and Joseph are known, Matthew 1 and Luke 3 representing the earthly geneologies of Joseph and Mary.

Salaam Friend BFG;
Yes, I am aware of these two genealogies as related by Matthew and Luke. I believe they are still subject to controversies and not for any reason.

The main objections I heard against these genealogies are:

-The tribal lineage – in the Jewish law- is passed through the father not the mother, and as Jesus (peace be upon him) did not have a biological father, therefore the tribal lineage of the mother is to no effect.

-The genealogy as shown by Luke is not that of Mary, there is controversy there also. Even if it was the case, it cannot be passed to Jesus (PBUH) because in the Jewish law -as said before- it is the genealogy of the father which is inherited.

“The father is the head of the family, and through him the genealogy is traced. "The relationship on the father’s side is a hereditary one, but that on the mother’s side is not regarded as such " (B. B. 109b) Source here under the chapter “Importance of the family”

"Biblical chronology ignores the mother in the lineal descent of generations. The father was considered the stem of the family tree. The census was conducted “after their families, by the house of their fathers” (Num. i. 2). Source here

-Joseph is not the biological but rather an adoptive father of Jesus (peace be upon him), therefore Jesus (PBUH) cannot be said to be his descendant.
