On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-matured wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear.
And he will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
he will swallow up death for ever.
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the Lord has spoken.

here we see two prophecies fullfilled in Christ as the messiah. Again like in Genesis Malchezediek offering bread and wine we see eucharistic promise through the prophet Isaiah as “rich food” and “well-matured wines”. The thing that struck me is the shroud/sheet/veil that God will destroy that is seperating God from all peoples (gentiles). This of course points to when the veil was torn in two in the temple and then jew and gentile both can come in the presence of God. anyone agree or want to comment further?:cool::highprayer:

Cool passage! Yeah, Scott Hahn wrote about the connection of the prophecies of the torn veil (blocking off the Holy of Holies) in Lamb’s Supper… I think also the mountain God had Abraham take Isaac (carrying the wood for the sacrifice) up is in the Moriah mountain range…Calvary/Gologtha is in the Moriah mountain range.

This verses which speak of the torn veil in the Temple have had several interpretations. One of them is that the tearing of the veil signifies one of several signs regarding the physical destruction of the Temple forty years after the death of Jesus. Another interpretation is that the torn veil reveals that G-d and Man are no longer separated from one another after Jesus’ death, since His death has atoned for the sins of both the Jews and the Gentiles. A third, related interpretation is that there is no longer any need for the High Priest of the Temple to serve as a means of atonement for the Jewish people since Jesus has fulfilled that obligation by His death. Finally, the tearing of the veil has been interpreted as a breaking of the Old Covenant in favor of a New Covenant. There has also been some discussion with respect to which veil was actually torn since it appears there were both an inner and outer veil, but many scholars do not believe this detail is all that significant.

There has been some attempt to reconcile this happening as an actual historical event by means of examining extra-biblical references, in particular those apart from the Gospels themselves. Both the Babylonian Talmud and Jerusalem Talmud refer to a number of unusual events that occurred in the Temple forty years prior to the crucifixion of Jesus. However, these references are connected not to Jesus but to Simeon the Just. One problem with this connection is that there were several Simeons who lived prior to and during the lifetime of Jesus, so it is somewhat unclear which Simeon is being referred to. Other references, including that of the historian Josephus and “The Lives of the Prophets,” also mention supernatural events that occurred within this time period, including that of the torn veil.

Might also refer to viel of Moses and be referring to the fact that with the incarnation, death, and resurrection of the Christ, the law (viel) was fulfilled.

“Just as Isaiah the prophet says, “Death devoured when it had prevailed” (Is 25:8, LXX)…Thus the former life is expelled, because it was not given by the spirit, but by the breath.” (S. Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 5, 12, 1)

If your interested in the Jewish interpretation of these verses in the Jewish scriptures:
  1. And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples on this mount, a feast of fat things, a feast of dregs; fat things full of marrow, dregs well refined.
  2. And He shall destroy on this mountain the face of the covering that covers all the peoples and the kingdom that rules over all the nations.
  3. He has concealed death forever, and the Lord God shall wipe the tears off every face, and the shame of His people He shall remove from upon the entire earth, for the Lord has spoken.
On Mt. Zion, the final judgement of the nations will take place. God will serve a rich repast of retribution, like a feast of concentrated, potent, filling and intoxicating foods and spirits. That is, He will take away their protection of veils and masks, and allow them to be routed. Jews will no longer be killed by their persecutors [Radak: but death from natural causes will of course continue to occur; Rashi: all death will be eliminated].
 
It is intersting that you can see that the passage first decribes the Eucharistic meal, then the tearing of the veil, then the destruction of death through Christ’s resurrection, and then the final wiping away of tears to come with the New Creation in the Second Coming.

It’s not really perplexing, because the Jewish interpretation states that when the Messiah comes all people will finally recognize G-d’s presence and be able to live together in peace and harmony.
