Islam a selfish religion?

If the only reason to convert to Islam it to “submit” to God, then isn’t that being kinda selfish? There’s no motivation to be in a Loving relationship with your Creator, it’s just out of fear of the Last Day.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

I don’t see it as anymore selfish than becoming a Christian for the same reason…There will always be a lack of motivation in some individuals. Besides, how much harder is it to submit to a non-loving entity than to a loving one?

Prayers and petitions,

IMO, there is only one reason why anyone should revert to Islam i.e. because it is 100% the Truth.

Why settle for anything else which contains falsehoods?

Would you buy a food item which is very beautifully packaged but which contains traces of poison?

Boy oh Boy, you obviously are blind.:ehh: Do you really know the Islamic faith?

If you do, I am assuming that agree with its belligerent ways. I have one question for you, why did the crusades start?

I am interested in seeing what it is that believe happened.

As others have posted, all religions have some aspect of selfishness. Are you motivated by fear of hell? Do you want unity with God (or everything, or nothing). My question is to where does this selfishness lead? Christianity leads to selflessness: dying to the world of sin, loving each other, caring for others. Does Islam? Christianity calls for unity with God and each other though putting others first. Does Islam? Why do we stay Christian? Because we like the claims? Ease of access? Why do many Muslims stay Muslim? Fear of retribution either from the governement or from others. I know that there “is no compulsion in religion” in Islam. That is, until someone kills you for leaving Islam.

Not all religions have aspects of selfishness. Christianity does not. It is based on love and giving yourself without expecting anything in return. Now it is probably a safe bet that all people are motivated by fear and have aspects of selfishness, which is in our natures. When you look at the teachings of islam you will find that it has as its basis fear and selfishness. This is why it is a manmade religion and not from God.

it is not the only reason. After all, Judaism and Christianity teach that you must submit to God. But the starting point of Islam is that Jews and Christians are not submitting to God because they corrupted the scriptures so Islam is : submit to God through a “prophet” who taught Gnosticism, Arianism, Apocrypha, and legends as the word of God whereas all dozens of previous prophets’ teachings, including Jesus, disappeared miraculously off the planet and Allah granted only Muhammad the priviledge not only of unlimited women on earth and in janna, but also the priviledge of being the only “prophet” whose words got not corrupt…

Before accusing Muslims of being selfish in their faith, Christians need to first ask themselves these questions:

**Why do you want Jesus (pbuh) to have suffered such a horrifying and degrading death as depicted in the “eye-witness account” of his alleged crucifixion?

If you have a plausible alternative account whereby Jesus does not die and is instead saved from such a horrible end by his Lord and this account also offers salvation for the believer, then why do you prefer to accept the first account whereby Jesus is crucified instead of the alternative account where he does not die?**

If you truly love someone, then surely you would not want to see him suffer any sort of pain or hurt whatsoever let alone to see him being killed so horrifyingly by being tortured and nailed to a cross.

Seems to me that what Christians really want is a ‘Get out of jail card’ that enables them to do the things which are forbidden in their faith… and then have someone else pay the penalty for all of their sins in order for them to get a free pass into Heaven.

And so then, would this be the Christian concept of “selfless love” that Muslims need to emulate?

That the problem with Mr.Mohdd. and his religion… no wonder Mr M. kept fighting (no peace) kept absorb women (lust) if i not mistaken i saw one email, his sword still kept safely in Saudi right…

Because it’s history. Any claims to the contrary are false, and gnostic. It was the psuedo-Christian gnostics who came up with the idea centuries after Our Lord’s ressurection that claimed He wasn’t crucified – they also claimed Satan was Jesus’ brother (ala Islam).

There is a get out of jail free card, and His name is Jesus Christ. But in order to obtain the “get out of jail free card”, you must repent and obey God and His Will.

Hail Mary, full of grace…
Yes, I am a bit sick of the Hamba2han v Christians and the BibleSteve v Catholics arguments. They are just feeding off this. Theres no apologetics going on here really, just defensive arguments. Theres always a lot of put downs and scripture wars from both sides when those two individuals are involved in these debates.

And this is exactly what I didn’t want. I just wanted individual opinions on a thought I had. Just for intellectual stimulation. Nothing more.

Thanks for noticing. I think others have started to realize this as well, and others are slowly but surely being made aware of the reality. Pearls to swine…

Hi

I don’t agree with you.

The submission is with complete understanding, out of free will, one one is overwhelmed by the mercy of God and His attributes and decides within himself to become in his image. Where any ego remains in such person? The fear is of wrong doings. Should one always be doing evil things? One has to come out of the sins, so that one is saved.

Just contemplate on the following verses and see there is no ego in what one submits to:

[1:1] In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful
[1:2] All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,
[1:3] The Gracious, the Merciful,
[1:4] Master of the Day of Judgment.
[1:5] Thee alone do we worship and Thee alone do we implore for help.
[1:6] Guide us in the right path –
[1:7] The path of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings, those who have not incurred Thy displeasure, and those who have not gone astray.

Thanks

I myself am a fan of the first Sura, but I know that there are many others which incite fear and give detailed descriptions of the Day of Judgement. I cannot base my view of an entire religion on one quote from it’s holy book.

If Islam were ONLY selfish the world would be a lot better off. Selfish is one of it’s better aspects.
