Whether it be earned justly or stolen in the night, a jewel of great value remains a jewel of great value.

For example, Protestants believe in the Holy Trinity.

Why? They are not the ones who came up with that doctrine, it was the Catholic Church. Well, they TOOK that doctrine. They also TOOK our book of worship and, depending on the denomination, other traditions and doctrines as well.

They mixed in with these other ideas. Their OWN ideas. Some of these ideas were thought to be inspired. Others just made more sense to them. This impacted their understanding of salvation and gravely affected their understanding of the nature of God.

Do they worship the same God as we do?

The Church recognizes that the manner of receiving the view of the objective truth does not make that view false in and of itself.

But the Church does make the distinction between what everyone else has and what we have as the “fullness” of the truth.

Bottom line, if the God of Islam is not the same God as the Judeo-Christian God, then by the same reasoning the God worshipped by the Protestants and Orthodox is not our God. And if you continue to confuse what they see more murkily and in a distorted manner as a sign they worship a completely different God, then you must also discount the God the Jews worship as being a different God.

Here, we have a problem. If the God of the Jews is not the same God as the one Christians worship (as many devout Jews most undoubtedly assert), then Catholic Christianity is also a false religion because everything we are relies on the Judaism as a religion which worships the one true God.

Please refrain from sarcasm as it confuses my tiny brain. Okini!

In all seriousness, I have learned now that everybody really does worship the same god no matter who they define him/her or what he/she asks the worshipper to do.

First of all, a person doesn’t invent the eternal, unchanging God the Creator, he discovers Him. The concept of God is written on the human heart. But, you are right, our fallen nature causes us to skew and misinterpret the nature of God. Thank Him we have the Church to infallibly show us the truth.

I agree with your observation. St. Augustine(?) sums it up: Every human being is by nature a Christian. This means that man from the start of his conception is oriented towards God. That’s the ultimate reality and truth. And that truth can be fully accomplished once a person knows and receives Christ.

It has been seen throughout the history of mankind that man has this notion that a Supreme Being exists. And this has been revealed to us in the fulness of time by the Son of God. There is no perfect religion apart from Christianity, that is–Catholicism. All other religions have some truths imbedded in their beliefs but not 100% are true. Islam is one of those.

The Catholic Church is very prudent in making tha statement that “muslims hold the faith of Abraham.” We must remember that Abraham had two sons, Isaac and Ishmael. It is also prophesied in the Bible that Ishmael will also be blessed by God. These two sons of Abraham has a share in the history of mankind. Although Isaac gained more favor with God than Ishmael, and thru his line the Messiah came into the world, the line of Ishmael also is blessed. Muslims profess that they are the descendants of Ishmael.

With regards to their worship of God, so long as they “hold the faith of Abraham” their God is the same God of Abraham. Remember the words spoken by God to Moses? “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”(emphasis added). To this is very clear that this descendants of Abraham thru Ishmael profess the same God of their father Abraham. Notice also that even the Jews who are the descendants of Isaac, is a monotheistic religion. Christianity is also a monotheistic religion. We all (Christian, Jews and Muslims) believe that there is only ONE GOD. And all of us profess that Abraham is our father, and Abraham is the father of all nations.
