I am inclined to agree with you on this point. As you know, I was previously a Muslim. I have fallen away from Islam and am investigating Catholicism. My reading of Catholicism (Bible and Magisterium) is that these sort of sins (homosexual activity, abortion, birth control, etc.) are all objectively sinful. The problem is that most Catholics pick and choose which points of Dogma that they want to de-emphasize. For example, I spoke with a Catholic woman, who attended daily mass. She said that she was “not so sure that homosexuality is disordered”. She suggested that “all the evidence is not in yet”. Her implicit point is that it may change. According to my view, it NEVER will. Many “devout” Catholics take this approach to Catholic teaching without attepting to understand the Natural Law that underpins its Moral Theology.
A second problem, in my opinion, is that most Catholics seem to think the “separation of Church and State” is Church Dogma. It is NOT and NEVER has been. So, these Catholics, not understanding Natural Law in its Thomist incarnation, seem to think that they should not allow their Christian beliefs bleed over into their civil responsibilities. They will say things like, “I believe abortion is wrong, but don’t want to force my opinion on others”. I always ask them whether their stance is TRUE or merely personally efficacious. If they believed it was TRUE, then abortion is Murder and using all lawful means to stop hinder this evil practice should be carried out. They take similar stances on other objective evils that concupiscience leads to. All these factors lead to western (formerly Christian) societies have shrinking populations and are racked with social ills.
Islamic societies have their own social ills. This would be a whole other thread. Whether or not these are due to Islam or in spite of Islam would depend on perspective. Islam and its stance on music is an example of my problems with Islam. I totally agree that some music and things associated with music are morally questionable, but I cannot see how music generally is morally wrong. That fact that Islam has a wooden literalistic understanding of Natural Law is a huge hinderance to me.
For this reason, I am caught in nowhereville religiously. I have some serious issues with Islam, especially as it is understood by Muslims today (most religious Muslims want to go back to 7th century  ). On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of Christians and Catholics embace cultural and moral relativism wholeheartedly. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, historically, have many similarities morally, but modernism has reeked havoc on the moral values of the formerly Christian world.

I must commend you highly on being so well informed about Catholicism. Very few Catholics I know are so well informed. Catholics in the U.S. in general are so ill-informed about their religion that their opinions on matters such as abortion are virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the population. Your example of the not “wanting to force my opinion on others” is another. This is part of “The Big Lie” [evil doesn’t exist] because every law ever written is someone’s will being forced on others.

Moral relativism is another part of “The Big Lie” because it contradicts itself because it claims truth is a matter of opinion. If truth is a matter of opinion, then what makes moral relativism true?

I hope you are studying the Catechism because that is where the doctrine is presented in a form that flows logically. People who start with the Bible quickly get confused sometimes.

Good luck and God bless!

Thanks for reading my mindless ramblings. I read the catechism everyday, along with the Bible. I am not yet fully Catholic, in part due to the scandal of cafeteria Catholicism. The manner in which modern American Catholics understand their religion is scandalious. It would not be so bad if it was simply ill-informed laity, but there a Priest who think the Church will inevitably ordain Woman to the Priesthood. This would be against the very order of creation. Woman should not even be altar servers. Why is that fraud allowed to continue??? Say what you will about Islam…there is no doubt that religious Muslims take their faith and its limitations VERY SERIOUSLY.

eichenb2,

I’m glad you are still reading the catechism and the Bible. Please don’t let the “cafeteria” Catholics deter you. That is just Satan trying to divide God’s Church. I hope and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in your search for the Truth. (And yes, I’m still praying for you every day! 🙂 )

I’m curious to know what everyone thinks about how the latest “honor killing” by the founder of Bridges TV in Buffalo who beheaded his wife because she filed for divorce. The whole purpose of the network was to portray Islam in a positive light and bridge the gap between Muslims and non-Muslims. What does this latest “honor killing” say about Islam as a system of life?

“Today’s 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world’s population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world’s population by the end of this century.”

Why don’t Christians stop aborting their babies, at all stages. Also, stop allowing the abhorent “gay rights” movement. Maybe then Muslims would not have such an advange in birth rate. Unless these things happen, we can expect the Moral Darwinism to continue.
Well, muslims are catching up though. They are now literally giving birth to human bombs to kill themselves for allah.

And then there’s the ever-increasing mistreatment of women.

Life is cheap in Islam, not just in secular Western society.

**It is shocking. There is the usual deafening silence from the “peaceful” muslims on this topic. I really do not understand how they can condone such behaviour but then I suppose if you read about their “beloved prophet” it is hardly surprising. How are we ever supposed to believe they are “peaceful”?

I heard this week that in UK libraries Bibles have been moved to the top shelf so that muslims are not offended by seeing them there!! If they do not like the UK and the fact it is a CHRISTIAN country - LEAVE! Are they surprised that people are really beginning to hate them?

Muslims have lots of gay people as well, and abortion and what have you of what people suffer from in these days and people can do nothing about it. Yes Muslims tend to have more babies that is why in my country all the beggars on the streets are Muslims, the majority in our jails are Muslims, the low-profile jobs are taken by Muslims, the uneducated are usually Muslims. Why? because many Muslim couples have baby after baby, and they send them to streets to either beg or work at an early age without any education and growing in the streets can lead to jail and crimes. Islamic countries have a problem of “travel marriages” where wealthy Arabs go marry poor little girls from different lands and then leave them for a certain amount of money. The Islamic world is suffering from misery because of their crowded population without education or money and many put their babies in dump places or on monastries’ doors. Egypt will soon cry for lesser water resources and might fight Ethiopia over the Nile resources. There are 14000 egyptian babies as a result of secret marriages called “urfi marriage” where fathers reject to acknowledge their sons…just throwing babies in the mothers’ wombs and leaving them on the streets isn’t what God called “be fruitful and multiply” because God can turn rocks into babies if He is interested in numbers.

Religious Muslims take their religion so seriously that ridiculous fatwas after fatwas are being issued and Muslims are scandalized by them. In this time, every one can speak his own mind, and we have brains to filter what we hear and see.

few info from there :HONOR KILLINGS IN AMERICA?

Of the 5328 Christian women murdered in 1990, FBI data indicate that about half or more of them by a Christian husband or Christian boyfriend

Thank you for the link I wasn’t aware there was a thread already when I wrote this. Anyway I’m not going to dispute there are some so-called Christians that that kill people but the difference is they do not do so** in the name of Christianity. All too often when we see these "honor killings"they are done in the name of Islam.** Take that father who drove a taxi down in Texas who murdered his daughters because they dared to talk to boys and integrated themselves into American society rather than following Egyptian customs. I don’t understand why Muslims do this especially when they do it in the name of Islam! I’m sure we will continue this discussion on the other thread.

To you Christian is anyone who is not a Muslim. They were not Christian because they were abusing their women, contrary to Christ’s teaching. By contrast, a Muslim man who beats and/or murders his wife/girlfriend, is acting in accordance with the “teachings” of your “merciful” prophet/messenger of Allah because he is punishing her for being “sinful”.

Ok, ok this one is going to ‘get you’. Here is muslim science with some good ole American humor along with it. God I love America - nothing and no one is sacred or above their humor!

Keep this in mind if islam becomes the dominant force in America - there is no humor in islam.
